Marriage and Divorce

Then He arose from there and came to the region of Judea by the other side of the Jordan. And multitudes gathered to Him again, and as He was accustomed, He taught them again.

Вийшовши звідти, Він приходить на територію Юдеї, що на другому боці Йордану. Збирається знову до Нього натовп, і Він, за звичаєм, знову їх навчає.

The Pharisees came and asked Him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” testing Him.

2

Підійшли фарисеї та, випробовуючи Його, запитували Його, чи можна чоловікові розлучатися з дружиною.

And He answered and said to them, “What did Moses command you?”

Він же у відповідь сказав їм: Що вам заповів Мойсей?

4

They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce, and to dismiss her.”

4

А вони промовили: Мойсей заповів написати листа про розлучення і відпустити.

And Jesus answered and said to them, “Because of the hardness of your heart he wrote you this [a]precept.

Ісус же сказав їм: Він вам написав цю заповідь через ваше жорстокосердя.

But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.’

6

Але від початку творіння [Бог] створив їх чоловіком і жінкою.

7

‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,

Ось тому залишить чоловік свого батька й матір і з’єднається зі своєю дружиною,

8

and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh.

8

і будуть двоє одним тілом, так що вони вже не двоє, а одне тіло.

9

Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

Отже, що Бог поєднав, те людина хай не розлучає!

10

In the house His disciples also asked Him again about the same matter.

10

Вдома учні знову розпитували Його про це.

11

So He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her.

11

І Він каже їм: Якщо хто розлучиться зі своєю дружиною та одружиться з іншою, той чинить проти неї перелюб;

12

And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”

12

і якщо вона розлучиться зі своїм чоловіком і вийде заміж за іншого, то й вона чинить перелюб.

13

Jesus Blesses Little Children

Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them.

13

І приносили до Нього дітей, щоби доторкнувся до них. А учні забороняли їм.

14

But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.

14

Побачивши це, Ісус обурився і сказав їм: Пропустіть дітей, хай приходять до Мене, і не забороняйте їм, бо таким належить Царство Боже.

15

Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”

15

Запевняю вас: якщо хто не прийме Божого Царства, як дитина, той не ввійде до нього!

16

And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them.

16

Він обійняв їх і, поклавши на них руки, благословив.

17

Jesus Counsels the Rich Young Ruler

Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?”

17

А як Він вирушав у дорогу, один підбіг, упав на коліна й запитав Його: Учителю добрий, що маю робити, аби успадкувати вічне життя?

18

So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.

18

Ісус сказав йому: Чому називаєш Мене добрим? Ніхто не є добрим, один лише Бог.

19

You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’ ”

Знаєш заповіді: Не вбивай, не чини перелюбу, не кради, не свідчи неправдиво, не кривди, шануй свого батька та матір?

20

And he answered and said to Him, “Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth.”

20

Той сказав йому: Учителю, усе це я зберіг з малих літ!

21

Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.”

21

Поглянувши на нього з любов’ю, Ісус сказав йому: Одного бракує тобі: піди і все, що маєш, продай та роздай бідним, — і будеш мати скарб на небі. А тоді приходь, [бери свій хрест] і йди за Мною!

22

But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

22

Він же, засмутившись від сказаного, відійшов пригнічений, бо мав велике багатство.

23

With God All Things Are Possible

Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!”

23

І, поглянувши навколо, Ісус каже Своїм учням: Як важко тим, хто має багатство, увійти в Царство Боже!

24

And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, “Children, how hard it is [b]for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God!

24

Учні були вражені тими словами. А Ісус знов у відповідь каже їм: Діти, як важко [тим, які надіються на багатство], увійти в Царство Боже!

25

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

25

Легше верблюдові пройти крізь вушко голки, ніж багатому ввійти в Царство Боже!

26

And they were greatly astonished, saying among themselves, “Who then can be saved?”

26

Вони ще більше дивувалися, говорячи між собою: Хто ж тоді може спастися?

27

But Jesus looked at them and said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.”

27

Поглянув на них Ісус, та й каже: Для людей це неможливе, але не для Бога, бо для Бога все можливе.

28

Then Peter began to say to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You.”

28

Тут Петро почав говорити Йому: Ось ми залишили все й пішли за Тобою.

29

So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother [c]or wife or children or [d]lands, for My sake and the gospel’s,

29

Ісус промовив: Запевняю вас: немає нікого, хто залишив би дім, або братів, або сестер, або матір, або батька, [або дружину], або дітей, чи поля — заради Мене й заради Євангелія —

30

who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time — houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions — and in the age to come, eternal life.

30

і при цьому не одержав би в сто разів більше вже тепер, у цей час, в умовах переслідувань, — і домів, і братів, і сестер, і матерів, і дітей, і поля, а в майбутньому віці — вічне життя!

31

But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”

31

Багато перших стануть останніми, а останні — першими.

32

Jesus a Third Time Predicts His Death and Resurrection

Now they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was going before them; and they were amazed. And as they followed they were afraid. Then He took the twelve aside again and began to tell them the things that would happen to Him:

Вони ж були в дорозі, прямуючи до Єрусалима. Попереду йшов Ісус. А учні, ідучи слідом, були дуже здивовані та охоплені страхом. Покликавши знову дванадцятьох, Він почав їм говорити про те, що має з Ним статися:

33

“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and deliver Him to the Gentiles;

33

Ось ми йдемо до Єрусалима, і Син Людський буде виданий первосвященикам і книжникам, і засудять Його на смерть, і видадуть язичникам;

34

and they will mock Him, and [e]scourge Him, and spit on Him, and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.”

34

і будуть глумитися з Нього, і оплюють Його, і бичуватимуть Його, і вб’ють, а через три дні Він воскресне.

35

Greatness Is Serving

Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Him, saying, “Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask.”

35

Підійшли до Нього Яків та Іван — Зеведеєві сини, і сказали Йому: Учителю, хочемо, щоб Ти нам зробив те, про що попросимо Тебе.

36

And He said to them, “What do you want Me to do for you?”

36

Він сказав їм: А що ви хочете, щоб Я зробив для вас?

37

They said to Him, “Grant us that we may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on Your left, in Your glory.”

37

Вони ж сказали Йому: Зроби нам так, щоб ми — один праворуч Тебе, а інший ліворуч — сиділи у славі Твоїй.

38

But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?”

38

Ісус же сказав їм: Ви не знаєте, чого просите. Чи можете ви пити ту чашу, котру Я п’ю, і хреститися хрещенням, котрим Я хрещуся?

39

They said to Him, “We are able.”
So Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink the cup that I drink, and with the baptism I am baptized with you will be baptized;

39

Вони сказали Йому: Можемо! Ісус же відповів їм: Чашу, котру Я п’ю, ви будете пити, і хрещенням, котрим Я хрещуся, будете хрещені.

40

but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared.”

40

Але щоб сісти праворуч Мене чи ліворуч, — давати не Мені, це тим, кому приготовлено.

41

And when the ten heard it, they began to be greatly displeased with James and John.

41

Коли це почули десятеро учнів, то обурилися на Якова й Івана.

42

But Jesus called them to Himself and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.

42

А Ісус, покликавши їх, каже їм: Ви знаєте, що ті, кого вважають володарями народів, панують над ними, а їхні вельможі гноблять їх.

43

Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant.

43

Але не так буде між вами: якщо хтось між вами хоче бути великим, нехай буде вам слугою.

44

And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all.

44

І якщо хтось між вами хоче бути першим, нехай буде для всіх рабом.

45

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

45

Адже й Син Людський не прийшов, щоб служили Йому, але щоби послужити і душу Свою віддати як викуп за багатьох!

46

Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus

Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging.

46

І прийшли вони в Єрихон. А коли Він зі Своїми учнями і великим натовпом виходив з Єрихона, то син Тимея, Вартимей [1] , сліпий жебрак, сидів край дороги.

47

And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

47

Почувши, що це Ісус Назарянин, він почав кричати, гукаючи: Сину Давидів, Ісусе, змилуйся наді мною!

48

Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

48

І багато погрожували йому, щоби замовк. Та він ще дужче кричав: Сину Давидів, помилуй мене!

49

So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called.
Then they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you.”

49

А Ісус, зупинившись, сказав: Покличте його! Вони закликали сліпця і сказали йому: Кріпися, вставай, Він кличе тебе!

50

And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus.

50

Той скинув свого плаща, підскочив і прийшов до Ісуса.

51

So Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?”
The blind man said to Him, [f]“Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.”

51

І у відповідь Ісус промовив до нього: Що ти хочеш, щоб Я зробив для тебе? Сліпий відказав Йому: Учителю, щоб я прозрів!

52

Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has [g]made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.

52

Ісус же сказав йому: Іди, віра твоя спасла тебе! І він відразу прозрів і пішов дорогою за Ним.
