  • The Model Prayer

    Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”

    And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
  • So He said to them, “When you pray, say:

    Hallowed be Your name.
    Your kingdom come.

    On earth as it is in heaven.
  • And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
  • Give us day by day our daily bread.

    For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.

  • Keep Asking, Seeking, Knocking

    “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

  • For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

  • But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

  • Seeking a Sign

    And while the crowds were thickly gathered together, He began to say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah [h]the prophet.
  • The Sign of Jonah

    And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.
  • For as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so also the Son of Man will be to this generation.
  • For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.
  • The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here.

  • The Lamp of the Body

    “No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a secret place or under a basket, but on a lampstand, that those who come in may see the light.

    No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.
  • The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is [i]good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is [j]bad, your body also is full of darkness.
  • The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.

  • Woe to the Pharisees and Lawyers

    And as He spoke, a certain Pharisee asked Him to dine with him. So He went in and sat down to eat.

    And as he spake, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.
  • When the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that He had not first washed before dinner.
