The Anointing at Bethany

Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was [a]who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead.

Ісус же за шість день до Пасхи прибув до Віфа́нії, де жив Лазар, що його воскресив Ісус із мертвих.

There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him.

2

І для Нього вече́рю там спра́вили, а Марта прислуго́вувала. Був же й Лазар одним із тих, що до столу з Ним сіли.

3

Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.

А Марія взяла літру мира, — з найдоро́жчого на́рду паху́чого, і намасти́ла Ісусові но́ги, і воло́ссям своїм Йому но́ги обтерла. І пахощі мира наповнили дім!

But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said,

І говорить один з Його учнів, Юда Іскаріо́тський, що мав Його видати:

“Why was this fragrant oil not sold for [b]three hundred denarii and given to the poor?”

5

„Чому мира оцього за триста дина́рів не про́дано, та й не ро́здано вбогим?“

This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.

А це він сказав не тому́, що про вбогих журився, а тому́, що був зло́дій: він мав скриньку на гроші, — і крав те, що вкида́ли.

But Jesus said, “Let her alone; [c]she has kept this for the day of My burial.

7

І промовив Ісус: „Позостав її ти, — це вона на день по́хорону заховала Мені.

8

For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.”

8

Бо вбогих ви маєте за́вжди з собою, а Мене не постійно ви маєте!“

9

The Plot to Kill Lazarus

Now a great many of the Jews knew that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead.

А на́товп великий юдеїв довідався, що Він там, та й поприхо́дили не з-за Ісуса Само́го, але щоб побачити й Лазаря, що його воскресив Він із мертвих.

10

But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also,

10

А первосвященики змо́вилися, щоб і Лазареві смерть заподіяти,

11

because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.

11

бо багато з юдеїв з-за нього відхо́дили, та в Ісуса ввірували.

12

The Triumphal Entry

The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

А другого дня, коли бе́зліч наро́ду, що зібрався на свято, прочула, що до Єрусалиму надходить Ісус,

13

took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out:
“Hosanna!
‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’
The King of Israel!”

то взяли́ вони па́льмове ві́ття, і вийшли назу́стріч Йому та й кричали: „Оса́нна! Благослове́нний, хто йде у Господнє Ім'я́! Цар Ізраїлів!“

14

Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written:

14

Ісус же, знайшовши осля, сів на нього, як написано:

15

“Fear not, daughter of Zion;
Behold, your King is coming,
Sitting on a donkey’s colt.”

15

„Не бійся, до́чко Сіонська! Ото Цар твій іде, сидячи́ на ослі молодому!“

16

His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him and that they had done these things to Him.

16

А учні Його спочатку́ того не зрозуміли були́, але, як прославивсь Ісус, то згадали тоді, що про Нього було так написано, і що цеє вчинили Йому́.

17

Therefore the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of his tomb and raised him from the dead, bore witness.

17

Тоді свідчив наро́д, який був із Ним, що Він викликав Лазаря з гро́бу, і воскресив його з мертвих.

18

For this reason the people also met Him, because they heard that He had done this sign.

18

Через це й зустрів на́товп Його, бо почув, що Він учинив таке чудо.

19

The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, “You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the world has gone after Him!”

19

Фарисеї тоді між собою казали: „Ви бачите, що нічо́го не вдієте: ось пішов увесь світ услід за Ним!“

20

The Fruitful Grain of Wheat

Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast.

20

А між тими, що в свято прийшли поклонитись, були й деякі ге́ллени.

21

Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”

21

І вони підійшли до Пилипа, що з Віфсаї́ди Галілейської, і просили його та казали: „Ми хочемо, пане, побачити Ісуса“.

22

Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus.

22

Іде Пилип та Андрієві каже; іде Андрій і Пилип та Ісусові розповідають.

23

But Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified.

23

Ісус же їм відповідає, говорячи: „Надійшла́ година, щоб Син Лю́дський просла́вивсь.

24

Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much [d]grain.

24

Поправді, поправді кажу́ вам: коли зе́рно пшеничне, як у землю впаде́, не помре, то одне зостається; як умре ж, плід рясни́й принесе́.

25

He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

25

Хто кохає душу свою, той погубить її; хто ж нена́видить душу свою на цім світі, — збереже її в вічне життя.

26

If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.

26

Як хто служить Мені, хай іде той за Мною, і де Я, там буде й слуга Мій. Як хто служить Мені, того пошану́є Отець.

27

Jesus Predicts His Death on the Cross

“Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.

27

Затривожена зараз душа Моя. І що Я пові́м? Заступи Мене, Отче, від цієї години! Та на те Я й прийшов на годину оцю́...

28

Father, glorify Your name.”
Then a voice came from heaven, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”

28

Прослав, Отче, Ім'я́ Своє!“ Залуна́в тоді голос із неба: „І прославив, — і зно́ву прославлю!“

29

Therefore the people who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to Him.”

29

А наро́д, що стояв і почув, говорив: „Загреміло"! Інші казали: „Це ангол Йому говорив“!

30

Jesus answered and said, “This voice did not come because of Me, but for your sake.

30

Ісус відповів і сказав: „Не для Мене цей голос луна́в, а для вас.

31

Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.

31

Тепер суд цьому світові. Князь світу цього буде ви́гнаний звідси тепер.

32

And I, if I am [e]lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”

32

І, як буду підне́сений з землі, то до Себе Я всіх притягну́“.

33

This He said, signifying by what death He would die.

33

А Він це говорив, щоб зазна́чити, якою то смертю Він має померти.

34

The people answered Him, “We have heard from the law that the Christ remains forever; and how can You say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?”

А наро́д відповів Йому́: „Ми чули з Зако́ну, що Христос перебуває повік, то чого ж Ти говориш, що Лю́дському Сину потрібно підне́сеному бути? Хто такий Цей Син Лю́дський?“

35

Then Jesus said to them, “A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.

35

І сказав їм Ісус: „Короткий ще час світло з вами. Ходіть, поки маєте світло, щоб вас те́мрява не обгорну́ла. А хто в те́мряві ходить, не знає, куди він іде.

36

While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and was hidden from them.

36

Аж доки ви маєте світло, то віруйте в світло, щоб синами світла ви стали“. Промовивши це, Ісус відійшов, і схова́вся від них.

37

Who Has Believed Our Report?

But although He had done so many signs before them, they did not believe in Him,

37

І хоч Він стільки чуд перед ними вчинив був, та в Нього вони не ввірували,

38

that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke:
“Lord, who has believed our report?
And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”

38

щоб спра́вдилось слово пророка Ісаї, який провіща́в: „Хто повірив тому́, що ми, Господи, чули, а Господнє раме́но кому́ об'яви́лось?“

39

Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again:

39

Тому́ не могли вони вірити, що зно́ву Ісая прорік:

40

“He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts,
Lest they should see with their eyes,
Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,
So that I should heal them.”

40

„Засліпив їхні очі, і скам'янив їхнє серце, щоб очима не бачили, ані серцем щоб не зрозуміли, і не наверну́лись, щоб Я їх уздоро́вив!“

41

These things Isaiah said [f]when he saw His glory and spoke of Him.

41

Це Ісая сказав, коли бачив славу Його, і про Нього звіща́в.

42

Walk in the Light

Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue;

42

Проте́ багато-хто навіть із старших у Нього ввірували, та не признавались через фарисеїв, — щоб не вигнано їх із синагоги.

43

for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

43

Бо любили вони славу людську більше, аніж славу Божу.

44

Then Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me.

44

А Ісус підняв голос, та й промовляв: „Хто вірує в Мене, не в Мене він вірує, але в Того, Хто послав Мене.

45

And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me.

45

А хто бачить Мене, той бачить Того, хто послав Мене.

46

I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.

46

Я, Світло, на світ прийшов, щоб кожен, хто вірує в Мене, у те́мряві не зоставався.

47

And if anyone hears My words and does not [g]believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.

47

Коли б же хто слів Моїх слухав та не вірував, Я того не суджу́, бо Я не прийшов світ судити, але щоб спасти світ.

48

He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him — the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.

48

Хто цурається Мене, і Моїх слів не приймає, той має для себе суддю́: те слово, що Я говорив, — останнього дня воно бу́де судити його!

49

For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.

49

Бо від Себе Я не говорив, а Отець, що послав Мене, — то Він Мені заповідь дав, що́ Я маю казати та що́ говорити.

50

And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.”

50

І відаю Я, що Його ота заповідь — то вічне життя. Тож що́ Я говорю́, то так говорю́, як Отець Мені розповіда́в.
