Now when Festus had come to the province, after three days he went up from Caesarea to Jerusalem.

А коли прибув Фест до свого намісництва, то він по трьох днях відійшов із Кесарі́ї до Єрусалиму.
І поскаржилися йому на Павла первосвященики та головніші з юдеїв, і благали його,
asking a favor against him, that he would summon him to Jerusalem — while they lay in ambush along the road to kill him.
і ніби милости просили для нього, щоб до Єрусалиму його припровадив, — вони змову вчинили, щоб смерть заподі́яти йому по дорозі.
But Festus answered that Paul should be kept at Caesarea, and that he himself was going there shortly.
А Фест відповів, що Павла стережуть у Кесарії, і він сам незаба́ром туди подає́ться.
“Therefore,” he said, “let those who have authority among you go down with me and accuse this man, to see if there is any fault in him.”
„Отже, — сказав він, — хто спроможен із вас, нехай ті вируша́ють ра́зом зо мною, і коли є неправда яка в чоловікові цьому, нехай оскаржа́ють його“.
And when he had remained among them more than ten days, he went down to Caesarea. And the next day, sitting on the judgment seat, he commanded Paul to be brought.
І, пробувши в них днів не більше як вісім чи десять, він поверну́вся до Кесарії. А другого дня він засів на суддевім сидінні, і звелів, щоб приве́сти Павла.
When he had come, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood about and laid many serious complaints against Paul, which they could not prove,
Як його ж привели́, то стали навколо юдеї, що поприхо́дили з Єрусалиму, і Павлу закидали багато тяжки́х винувачень, що їх не могли дове́сти,
while he answered for himself, “Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar have I offended in anything at all.”
бо Павло боронився: „Я не провинився ні в чім ані проти Зако́ну юдейського, ані проти храму, ані супроти ке́саря“.
But Festus, wanting to do the Jews a favor, answered Paul and said, “Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem and there be judged before me concerning these things?”
Тоді Фест, що бажав догодити юдеям, промовив Павло́ві на відповідь: „Чи ти хочеш до Єрусалиму піти, і там суд прийняти від мене про це?“
So Paul said, “I stand at Caesar’s judgment seat, where I ought to be judged. To the Jews I have done no wrong, as you very well know.
Та Павло відказав: „Я стою перед судом ке́саревим, де належить мені суд прийняти. Юдеїв нічим я не скри́вдив, як і ти дуже добре те знаєш.
For if I am an offender, or have committed anything deserving of death, I do not object to dying; but if there is nothing in these things of which these men accuse me, no one can deliver me to them. I appeal to Caesar.”
Бо коли допустився я кривди, або гідне смерти вчинив що, то не відмовляюся вмерти. Як нема ж нічого того, у чім вони винуватять мене, то не може ніхто мене видати їм. Відкликаюсь до ке́саря!“
Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, “You have appealed to Caesar? To Caesar you shall go!”
Тоді Фест, побалакавши з радою, відповідь дав: „Ти відкли́кавсь до ке́саря, — до ке́саря пі́деш!“
Paul Before Agrippa
And after some days King Agrippa and Bernice came to Caesarea to greet Festus.

Як минуло ж днів кілька, цар Агрі́ппа й Верні́ка приїхали до Кесарії, щоб Феста вітати.
When they had been there many days, Festus laid Paul’s case before the king, saying: “There is a certain man left a prisoner by Felix,
А що там багато днів вони пробули́, то Фест ви́клав справу Павлову цареві й промовив: „Є один чоловік — від Фелікса лишений в'язень,
about whom the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, when I was in Jerusalem, asking for a judgment against him.
на якого, як в Єрусалимі я був, первосвященики й старші юдейські прине́сли скаргу, домагаючись його о́суду.
Я їм відповів, що римля́ни не мають звича́ю люди́ну якусь видавати на згубу, поки пізваний перед собою не матиме обвинувачі́в, і не буде йому дано можности для оборони від закидів.
Therefore when they had come together, without any delay, the next day I sat on the judgment seat and commanded the man to be brought in.
І як зійшлись вони тут, то я, зволіка́ння не роблячи жодного, сів наступного дня на сидіння судде́ве, і звелів привести́ цього мужа.
І винувальники стали круг нього, проте́ не вказали вини ані жодної з тих, яких я сподівався.
but had some questions against him about their own religion and about a certain Jesus, who had died, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.
Та мали вони проти нього якісь суперечки про власне своє марновірство, і про якогось Ісуса померлого, про Якого Павло твердив, що живий Він.
And because I was uncertain of such questions, I asked whether he was willing to go to Jerusalem and there be judged concerning these matters.
І я був непевний у цьо́му змага́нні й спитав, чи не хоче піти він до Єрусалиму, і там суд прийняти про це?
But when Paul appealed to be reserved for the decision of Augustus, I commanded him to be kept till I could send him to Caesar.”
Через те ж, що Павло заявив, щоб зали́шений був він на ке́сарів ро́зсуд, я звелів сторожити його, аж поки його не відправлю до ке́саря“.
Then Agrippa said to Festus, “I also would like to hear the man myself.”
“Tomorrow,” he said, “you shall hear him.”
“Tomorrow,” he said, “you shall hear him.”
А Агріппа промовив до Феста: „Хотів би і я цього му́жа послухати!“ „Узавтра — сказав той — почуєш його“.
А назавтра Агрі́ппа й Верні́ка прийшли з превеликою пишно́тою, і на залю судо́ву ввійшли разом з тисяцькими та значнішими му́жами міста. І як Фест наказав, то Павло був приве́дений.
And Festus said: “King Agrippa and all the men who are here present with us, you see this man about whom the whole assembly of the Jews petitioned me, both at Jerusalem and here, crying out that he was not fit to live any longer.
І сказав до них Фест: „О ца́рю Агріппо, та з нами присутні всі му́жі! Ви бачите того, що за нього ввесь люд юдейський мені докучав в Єрусалимі та тут, кричачи́, що йому не повинно більш жити.
But when I found that he had committed nothing deserving of death, and that he himself had appealed to Augustus, I decided to send him.
Я ж дізнавсь, що нічого, ва́ртого смерти, він не вчинив; а що сам він відкликавсь до Августа, розсудив я послати його.
I have nothing certain to write to my lord concerning him. Therefore I have brought him out before you, and especially before you, King Agrippa, so that after the examination has taken place I may have something to write.
Нічого не маю я певного, що міг би про нього писати до пана. Тому я припровадив його перед вас, а найбільш перед тебе, ца́рю Агріппо, щоб після переслу́хання мав що писати.
