Rich Oppressors Will Be Judged

Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you!

Слухайте ви, багачі! Плачте й ридайте, бо велике лихо наближається до вас.

Your riches [a]are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten.

Багатство ваше згніє, а одяг ваш міль поточить.

3

Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days.

Золото й срібло ваше зіржавіє, а та іржа буде свідчити проти вас і з’їсть ваше тіло, неначе вогонь. Ви зібрали скарби свої в останні дні.

Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of [b]Sabaoth.

Погляньте! Робітники, які обробляли ваші поля і в котрих ви утримали плату, голосять. І бідкання женців дійшли до слуху Господа Саваота.[9]

You have lived on the earth in pleasure and [c]luxury; you have [d]fattened your hearts [e]as in a day of slaughter.

Ви жили у розкошах та надмірній насолоді, і розгодувалися,[10] як на заколення.

You have condemned, you have murdered the just; he does not resist you.

Ви засуджували і вбивали невинних, які не могли вам протистояти.

Be Patient and Persevering

Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain.

Отож будьте терплячі, брати і сестри, аж до дня приходу Господа. Пам’ятайте, хлібороб чекає дорогоцінного врожаю від землі своєї, він терпляче чекає на ранні й пізні дощі.[11]

You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord [f]is at hand.

Ви також маєте чекати терпляче. Не втрачайте надії, бо Господнє пришестя близько.

Do not [g]grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be [h]condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door!

Браття і сестри, перестаньте скаржитися одне на одного, щоб не бути осудженими. Дивіться, Суддя вже стоїть біля дверей!

My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and patience.

Браття і сестри, згадайте пророків, котрі говорили від імені Бога, як зразок страждань і довготерпіння.

Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord — that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.

Пам’ятайте, що ми вважаємо блаженними тих, хто потерпає. Ви чули про довготерпіння Йова [12] і знаєте, що після усіх страждань, Господь допоміг йому. Господь — милосердний і співчутливий.

But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your “Yes” be “Yes,” and your “No,” “No,” lest you fall into [i]judgment.

І насамперед, брати і сестри мої, перестаньте присягатися небом і землею чи іншими якимись клятвами. Ваше «так» має бути «так», а «ні» має бути «ні», щоб не бути вам засудженими.

Meeting Specific Needs

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms.

Якщо хтось із вас потрапив в біду, нехай молиться. А як у радості, хай співає псалми.

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

Якщо хтось із вас занедужав, то нехай покличе старійшин із церкви, щоб вони помолилися за нього, помазавши його оливою [13] в ім’я Господнє.

15

And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

І молитва з вірою спасе недужого, й Господь зцілить його. Якщо він вчинив гріх, то Господь пробачить йому.

16

[j]Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, [k]fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Отож завжди сповідуйте один одному гріхи, які ви чините, і моліться одне за одного, щоб зцілитися. Бог зглянеться на вас, бо молитва праведників може дуже багато.

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.

Ілля був такою ж людиною, як і ми з вами. Він палко молився, щоб дощ не падав на землю, і дощу не було на землі три з половиною роки.

And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

Потім він знову помолився, і з неба пішов дощ, і земля знову почала давати врожай.

Bring Back the Erring One

Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back,

Брати і сестри мої, якщо хтось із-поміж вас відійшов від істини, а інший повернув його до неї,

let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save [l]a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

20

то знайте, що людина, яка повернула грішника на дорогу правди, врятувала ту людську душу від смерті, та спричинила прощення багатьох гріхів.
