Greeting to the Elect Pilgrims

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,
To the [a]pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

Петро, апо́стол Ісуса Христа, захожа́нам Розпоро́шення: По́нту, Гала́тії, Каппадокі́ї, Азії й Віфі́нії, ви́браним

elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ:
Grace to you and peace be multiplied.

із передба́чення Бога Отця, посвя́ченням Духа, на покору й окро́плення кров'ю Ісуса Христа: нехай примно́житься вам благодать та мир!

A Heavenly Inheritance

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Благословенний Бог і Отець Господа нашого Ісуса Христа, що великою Своєю милістю відродив нас до живої надії через воскре́сення з мертвих Ісуса Христа,

to an inheritance [b]incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,

на спа́дщину нетлінну й непорочну та нев'яну́чу, заховану в небі для вас,

who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

що ви бережені силою Божою через віру на спасі́ння, яке готове з'явитися останнього ча́су.

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been [c]grieved by various trials,

Тіштеся з того, засмучені тро́хи тепер, якщо треба, всілякими випробо́вуваннями,

that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,

щоб досвідчення вашої віри було дорогоцінніше за золото, яке гине, хоч і огнем випробо́вується, на похвалу́, і честь, і славу при з'я́вленні Ісуса Христа.

whom having not [d]seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,

Ви Його любите, не бачивши, і віруєте в Нього, хоч тепер не бачите, а вірувавши, радієте невимо́вною й славною радістю,

9

receiving the end of your faith — the salvation of your souls.

бо досяга́єте мети́ віри вашої — спасі́ння ду́шам.

Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,

Про це спасі́ння розвідували та допитувалися пророки, що звіщали про благода́ть, призначену вам.

searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.

Вони досліджували, на котри́й чи на який час показував Дух Христів, що в них був, коли Він сповіщав про Христові стражда́ння та славу, що при́йдуть по них.

To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to [e]us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven — things which angels desire to look into.

їм відкрито було́, що вони не для себе сами́х, а для вас служили тим, що тепер звіщено вам через благові́сників Духом Святим, із неба посланим, на що бажають дивитися анголи.

Living Before God Our Father

Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

Тому́ то, підперезавши сте́гна свого розуму та бувши тверезі, майте досконалу надію на благода́ть, що прино́ситься вам в з'я́вленні Ісуса Христа.

14

as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;

14

Як слухняні, не застосовуйтеся до попередніх пожадливо́стей вашого неві́дання,

15

but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,

15

але за Святим, що покликав вас, будьте й самі святі в усім вашім пово́дженні,

16

because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

16

бо написано: „Будьте святі, — Я бо святий“!

17

And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your [f]stay here in fear;

17

І коли ви Отцем звете Того, Хто кожного, не зважаючи на особу, судить за вчинок, то в страху́ провадьте час вашого тимчасового заме́шкання.

18

knowing that you were not redeemed with [g]corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers,

18

I знайте, що не тлінним сріблом або золотом відкуплені ви були від марно́го вашого життя, що передане вам від батьків,

19

but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

19

але дорогоцінною кров'ю Христа, як непорочного й чистого Ягняти,

20

He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was [h]manifest in these last times for you

20

що призначений був іще перед закла́динами світу, але був з'явлений вам за останнього ча́су.

21

who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

21

Через Нього ви віруєте в Бога, що з мертвих Його воскресив та дав славу Йому, щоб була ваша віра й надія на Бога.

The Enduring Word

Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth [i]through the Spirit in [j]sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart,

По́слухом правді очистьте душі свої через Духа на нелицемірну братерську любов, і ревно від щирого серця любіть один о́дного,

23

having been born again, not of [k]corruptible seed but [l]incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides [m]forever,

23

бо народжені ви не з тлінного насіння, але з нетлінного, — Словом Божим живим та тривалим.

24

because
“All flesh is as grass,
And all [n]the glory of man as the flower of the grass.
The grass withers,
And its flower falls away,

24

Бо „кожне тіло — немов та трава, і всяка слава люди́ни — як цвіт трав'яни́й: засохне трава — то й цвіт опаде,

25

But the [o]word of the Lord endures forever.”
Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.

а Слово Господнє повік пробуває“! А це те Слово, яке звіщене вам у Єва́нгелії.
