The Song of Moses

“Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak;
And hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.

Прихилїтесь небеса, я промовляти буду; слухай і ти, земле, слова з уст моїх!

Let my [a]teaching drop as the rain,
My speech distill as the dew,
As raindrops on the tender herb,
And as showers on the grass.

Нехай же, як дощ, лється наука моя, як роса промова моя, як рісні краплї на траву, як буйний дощ на билину.

3

For I proclaim the name of the Lord:
Ascribe greatness to our God.

Бо імя Господа прославляти буду: Воздайте славу Богові нашому!

4

He is the Rock, His work is perfect;
For all His ways are justice,
A God of truth and without injustice;
Righteous and upright is He.

Він скеля: дїла його звершені; всї бо дороги його справедливі. Він Бог вірний і без омани, справедливий і правдивий!

5

“They have corrupted themselves;
They are not His children,
Because of their blemish:
A perverse and crooked generation.

Та вони зледащіли; се кодло, що перевернулось і спроневірилось соромними вчинками, від котрих далекі сини його.

6

Do you thus deal[b] with the Lord,
O foolish and unwise people?
Is He not your Father, who bought you?
Has He not made you and established you?

О безрозумний і безглуздий народе! Так то оддячуєш ти Господеві? Чи не він же твій батько, що сотворив тебе? Він сотворив тебе, і зготовив все для тебе.

7

“Remember the days of old,
Consider the years of many generations.
Ask your father, and he will show you;
Your elders, and they will tell you:

Спогадай но давні давна, подумай про лїта від роду до роду; розпитай у батька твого, і він звістить тобі, в людей старих твоїх, і вони розкажуть тобі!

8

When the Most High divided their inheritance to the nations,
When He separated the sons of Adam,
He set the boundaries of the peoples
According to the number of the [c]children of Israel.

Як Всевишнїй надїляв наслїддє народам, як роздїлював синів людських, тодї визначив гряницї по лїчбі синів Ізраїля.

9

For the Lord’s portion is His people;
Jacob is the place of His inheritance.

9

Бо пай Господа нарід його; Яков удїл наслїддя його.

10

“He found him in a desert land
And in the wasteland, a howling wilderness;
He encircled him, He instructed him,
He kept him as the [d]apple of His eye.

10

Він знайшов його в пустинї, в степу безлюдному і дикому; він охоронив його, пильнував його, і беріг його як зїницї ока свого.

11

As an eagle stirs up its nest,
Hovers over its young,
Spreading out its wings, taking them up,
Carrying them on its wings,

Як орел визиває гнїздо своє, і над орлятами ширяє, крила свої простирає, бере, і несе їх на широких крилах своїх;

12

So the Lord alone led him,
And there was no foreign god with him.

12

Так виводив його Господь сам, і не бувало з ним чужого бога.

13

“He made him ride in the heights of the earth,
That he might eat the produce of the fields;
He made him draw honey from the rock,
And oil from the flinty rock;

13

Водив його по горах землї і кормив його плодами поля; і дав йому ссати мед по скелях і цїдити олїю по креминистих горах;

14

Curds from the cattle, and milk of the flock,
With fat of lambs;
And rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats,
With the choicest wheat;
And you drank wine, the blood of the grapes.

Кормив його маслом коровеним і молоком овечим, і туком годованих овець і баранів Базанських і козлів, і ядерним зерном пшеницї; ти пив добірне вино, кров виноградню.

15

“But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked;
You grew fat, you grew thick,
You are obese!
Then he forsook God who made him,
And scornfully esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

І потовстїв праведник та й став буяти; ти став товстий, грубий, жирний! І покинув він Бога, що сотворив його, і став гордувати скельою спасення свого.

16

They provoked Him to jealousy with foreign gods;
With [e]abominations they provoked Him to anger.

16

Дразнили його чужими богами а гидотами приводили його до гнїву.

17

They sacrificed to demons, not to God,
To gods they did not know,
To new gods, new arrivals
That your fathers did not fear.

17

Вони приносили жертву бісам а не Богу, богам, що не знали їх досї, новим, що тільки позаводено їх, яких батьки ваші не шанували.

18

Of the Rock who begot you, you are unmindful,
And have forgotten the God who fathered you.

18

А про скелю, що появила тебе на сьвіт, ти не дбав і забув про Бога, що сотворив тебе.

19

“And when the Lord saw it, He spurned them,
Because of the provocation of His sons and His daughters.

19

І побачив се Господь, та й відопхнув їх в гнїві над синами своїми і дочками своїми.

20

And He said: ‘I will hide My face from them,
I will see what their end will be,
For they are a perverse generation,
Children in whom is no faith.

20

І промовив він: Заховаю лице моє від них, побачу я, як конець їх буде; вони бо кодло зовсїм зледащіле, дїти, в яких нема вірностї.

21

They have provoked Me to jealousy by what is not God;
They have moved Me to anger by their [f]foolish idols.
But I will provoke them to jealousy by those who are not a nation;
I will move them to anger by a foolish nation.

21

Вони завдали менї жалю своїм Не-Богом, розгнївили мене своїми марностями: тим то завдам і я їм жалю ненародом, народом безумним завдам їм горя.

22

For a fire is kindled in My anger,
And shall burn to the [g]lowest [h]hell;
It shall consume the earth with her increase,
And set on fire the foundations of the mountains.

Запалав бо мій гнїв і горіти ме аж до дна підземної пропастї, і пожере він землю і плоди її, і попалить основини гір

23

‘I will heap disasters on them;
I will spend My arrows on them.

23

Згромаджу на них всї нещастя та й оберну всї стріли мої на них.

24

They shall be wasted with hunger,
Devoured by pestilence and bitter destruction;
I will also send against them the teeth of beasts,
With the poison of serpents of the dust.

24

Як гинути муть з голоду, і як пожирати ме їх горячка і люта чума, пішлю на них ще зуби диких зьвірів, і їдь гадюк.

25

The sword shall destroy outside;
There shall be terror within
For the young man and virgin,
The nursing child with the man of gray hairs.

25

По улицях буде гострий меч губити, а в домівках страх побивати: і пареня і дївицю і немовлятко і старця.

26

I would have said, “I will dash them in pieces,
I will make the memory of them to cease from among men,”

26

Я сказав би: Розсїю їх і зроблю конець їх памятї між людьми!

27

Had I not feared the wrath of the enemy,
Lest their adversaries should misunderstand,
Lest they should say, “Our hand is high;
And it is not the Lord who has done all this.” ’

27

Коли б не пиха ворогів їх, та коли б вороги їх, побачивши се, не мовляли: Не Господь зробив все се, а потужна рука наша!

28

“For they are a nation void of counsel,
Nor is there any understanding in them.

28

Се народ, для якого нема ради; нема там розуму між ними.

29

Oh, that they were wise, that they understood this,
That they would consider their latter end!

29

Коли б то був у них розум, то зрозуміли б вони, який конець їм буде!

30

How could one chase a thousand,
And two put ten thousand to flight,
Unless their Rock had sold them,
And the Lord had surrendered them?

30

Як же би міг один чоловік гнати тисячу, а двох їх десять тисячі люда, як би Господь, їх скеля, не передав їх і не віддав їх в руки?

31

For their rock is not like our Rock,
Even our enemies themselves being judges.

31

Бо не така їх скеля, як наша скеля: так судять самі вороги наші.

32

For their vine is of the vine of Sodom
And of the fields of Gomorrah;
Their grapes are grapes of gall,
Their clusters are bitter.

32

Бо виноград їх від винограду Содомського та з поля Гоморського; ягоди їх їдовиті ягоди, гіркі їх грона.

33

Their wine is the poison of serpents,
And the cruel venom of cobras.

33

Вино їх се їдь гадюча і погибельна отрута змієва.

34

‘Is this not laid up in store with Me,
Sealed up among My treasures?

34

Хиба се не сховане в мене, не запечатане в коморах моїх?

35

Vengeance is Mine, and recompense;
Their foot shall slip in due time;
For the day of their calamity is at hand,
And the things to come hasten upon them.’

35

Моя пімста і відплата буде того часу, як ноги їх хитати муться; день бо погибелї їх близько, а що чикає їх, те вже постигає їх.

36

“For the Lord will judge His people
And have compassion on His servants,
When He sees that their power is gone,
And there is no one remaining, bond or free.

36

Но Господь судити ме нарід свій і змилосердується над рабами своїми, як побачить, що поникла їх сила, і не стало нї невольника нї вільного.

37

He will say: ‘Where are their gods,
The rock in which they sought refuge?

37

І скаже він: Де ж боги їх, скеля, що на неї вповали,

38

Who ate the fat of their sacrifices,
And drank the wine of their drink offering?
Let them rise and help you,
And be your refuge.

38

Де вони, що поїдали тук жертов їх заколюваних, і пили вино, жертву їх ливну? Нехай встануть і поможуть вам, нехай будуть вам охороною.

39

‘Now see that I, even I, am He,
And there is no God besides Me;
I kill and I make alive;
I wound and I heal;
Nor is there any who can deliver from My hand.

Подивітесь тепер, що я, се я, що стою, і нема Бога кромі мене! Я вбиваю і оживляю, я задаю рани і сцїляю; і нема нїкого, хто б спас із руки моєї!

40

For I raise My hand to heaven,
And say, “As I live forever,

40

Бо я підіймаю руку мою до неба і кажу вам: Я живу вічно!

41

If I [i]whet My glittering sword,
And My hand takes hold on judgment,
I will render vengeance to My enemies,
And repay those who hate Me.

41

Як вигострю блискучого меча мого і рука моя на суд підніметься, то відомщу ворогам моїм і відплачу ненавидникам моїм.

42

I will make My arrows drunk with blood,
And My sword shall devour flesh,
With the blood of the slain and the captives,
From the heads of the leaders of the enemy.” ’

Стріли мої напою кровю, а меча мого нагодую тїлом — кровю побитих і бранцїв і головами князїв ворога.

43

“Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His [j]people;
For He will avenge the blood of His servants,
And render vengeance to His adversaries;
He will provide atonement for His land and His people.”

43

Веселїтесь, народи, з його народом! Він бо помстить кров рабів своїх, відомстить ворогам своїм, а землї своїй, народові свому, простить.

44

So Moses came with [k]Joshua the son of Nun and spoke all the words of this song in the hearing of the people.

44

І прийшов Мойсей і промовляв усї слова сієї піснї, щоб чув нарід, він і Йозей Нуненко.

45

Moses finished speaking all these words to all Israel,

45

І як скіньчив Мойсей промовляти всї ті слова до всього Ізраїля, тодї сказав ще до них:

46

and he said to them: “Set your hearts on all the words which I testify among you today, which you shall command your children to be careful to observe — all the words of this law.

46

Прийміть же до вашого серця всї слова, що їх сьвідкую між вами сьогоднї, щоб ви заповідали їх синам вашим, а вони вбачали і сповняли всї слова закону сього.

47

For it is not a [l]futile thing for you, because it is your life, and by this word you shall prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess.”

Се бо не пусте слово про вас, а життє ваше; і сим словом ви продовжите днї у землї, куди ійдете через Йордань, щоб заняти її.

48

Moses to Die on Mount Nebo

Then the Lord spoke to Moses that very same day, saying:

Того ж самого дня промовив Господь до Мойсея словами:

“Go up this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, across from Jericho; view the land of Canaan, which I give to the children of Israel as a possession;

49

Вийди на сї гори Абарим, на гору Небо, що в землї Моабській, проти Єрихону, і подивись на Канаан землю, що я даю в державу синам Ізрайлевим;

50

and die on the mountain which you ascend, and be [m]gathered to your people, just as Aaron your brother died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people;

50

І ти вмреш на горі, що вийдеш на неї, та й прилучишся до свого народу; так як Арон, брат твій, вмер на горі Гор та й прилучивсь до народу свого;

51

because you trespassed against Me among the children of Israel at the waters of [n]Meribah Kadesh, in the Wilderness of Zin, because you did not hallow Me in the midst of the children of Israel.

Се ж за те, що ви согрішили проти мене серед синів Ізрайлевих над водами Мерива-Кадес, у Зин степу за те, що не явили сьвятостї моєї серед синів Ізрайлевих. Тим же то бачити меш перед собою землю, та не прийдеш до неї, до землї тієї, що надїляю синам Ізрайлевим.
