This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
Сие только хочу знать от вас: через дела ли закона вы получили Духа или через наставление в вере?
Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?
Так ли вы несмысленны, что, начав духом, теперь оканчиваете плотью?
Столь многое потерпели вы неужели без пользы? О, если бы только без пользы!
Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? —
Подающий вам Духа и совершающий между вами чудеса через дела ли закона сие производит или через наставление в вере?
just as Abraham “believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”
Так Авраам поверил Богу, и это вменилось ему в праведность.
Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham.
Познайте же, что верующие суть сыны Авраама.
And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.”
И Писание, провидя, что Бог верою оправдает язычников, предвозвестило Аврааму: «в тебе благословятся все народы».
So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.

The Law Brings a Curse
For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.”

а все, утверждающиеся на делах закона, находятся под клятвою. Ибо написано: «проклят всяк, кто не исполняет постоянно всего, что написано в книге закона».
А что законом никто не оправдывается пред Богом, это ясно, потому что праведный верою жив будет.
Yet the law is not of faith, but “the man who does them shall live by them.”
А закон не по вере; но кто исполняет его, тот жив будет им.
Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”),
Христос искупил нас от клятвы закона, сделавшись за нас клятвою, (ибо написано: «проклят всяк висящий на древе»),
that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
дабы благословение Авраамово через Христа Иисуса распространилось на язычников, чтобы нам получить обещанного Духа верою.
The Changeless Promise

Братия! говорю по рассуждению человеческому: даже человеком утверждённого завещания никто не отменяет и не прибавляет к нему.
Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ.
Но Аврааму даны были обетования и семени его. Не сказано: «и потомкам», как бы о многих, но как об одном: «и семени твоему», которое есть Христос.
Я говорю то, что завета о Христе, прежде Богом утверждённого, закон, явившийся спустя четыреста тридцать лет, не отменяет так, чтобы обетование потеряло силу.
For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

Purpose of the Law
What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator.

Для чего же закон? Он дан после по причине преступлений, до времени пришествия семени, к которому относится обетование, и преподан через Ангелов, рукою посредника.
Now a mediator does not mediate for one only, but God is one.
Но посредник при одном не бывает, а Бог один.
Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law.
Итак, закон противен обетованиям Божиим? Никак! Ибо если бы дан был закон, могущий животворить, то подлинно праведность была бы от закона;
But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
но Писание всех заключило под грехом, дабы обетование верующим дано было по вере в Иисуса Христа.
А до пришествия веры мы заключены были под стражею закона, до того времени, как надлежало открыться вере.
Итак, закон был для нас детоводителем ко Христу, дабы нам оправдаться верою;
But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

Sons and Heirs
