New King James Version

New American Standard Bible

  • Walk in Love

    Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.
  • Be Imitators of God

    Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;
  • And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.
  • and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.
  • But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;
  • But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints;
  • neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.
  • and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.
  • For [a]this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
  • For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
  • Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
  • Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
  • Therefore do not be partakers with them.
  • Therefore do not be partakers with them;
  • Walk in Light

    For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
  • for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light
  • (for the fruit of the [b]Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),
  • (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth),
  • finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.
  • trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.
  • And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather [c]expose them.
  • Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them;
  • For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.
  • for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.
  • But all things that are [d]exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.
  • But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light.
  • Therefore He says:
    “Awake, you who sleep,
    Arise from the dead,
    And Christ will give you light.”
  • For this reason it says,
    “Awake, sleeper,
    And arise from the dead,
    And Christ will shine on you.”
  • Walk in Wisdom

    See then that you walk [e]circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,
  • Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise,
  • redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
  • making the most of your time, because the days are evil.
  • Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
  • So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
  • And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,
  • And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,
  • speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,
  • speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord;
  • giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
  • always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father;
  • submitting to one another in the fear of [f]God.
  • and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.
  • Marriage — Christ and the Church

    Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

  • Marriage Like Christ and the Church

    Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord.
  • For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.
  • For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body.
  • Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
  • But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.
  • Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
  • Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her,
  • that He might [g]sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,
  • so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,
  • that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
  • that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.
  • So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.
  • So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself;
  • For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.
  • for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church,
  • For we are members of His body, [h]of His flesh and of His bones.
  • because we are members of His body.
  • “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”
  • FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND SHALL BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH.
  • This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
  • This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church.
  • Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
  • Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband.
