The Land Divided West of the Jordan

These are the areas which the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel distributed as an inheritance to them.

А оце те, що посіли Ізраїлеві сини в ханаанському краї, що дали їм на спа́док священик Елеаза́р, і Ісус, син Навинів, та го́лови батьків племен Ізраїлевих синів.

Their inheritance was by lot, as the Lord had commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes and the half-tribe.

Жеребко́м приділили їхній спа́док, як наказав був Господь через Мойсея, дев'яти племе́нам і половині пле́мени.

For Moses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half-tribe on the other side of the Jordan; but to the Levites he had given no inheritance among them.

Бо дав Мойсей насліддя двох племе́н, та половини пле́мени по той бік Йорда́ну, а Левитам спа́дку не дав серед них.

For the children of Joseph were two tribes: Manasseh and Ephraim. And they gave no part to the Levites in the land, except cities to dwell in, with their common-lands for their livestock and their property.

Бо Йо́сипових синів було двоє поколінь, Манасі́я та Єфре́м, а Левитам не дали спа́дку в краю́, а тільки міста на осе́лення та їхні пасови́ська для їхньої худоби та для їхнього маєтку.

As the Lord had commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did; and they divided the land.

Як наказав був Господь Мойсеєві, так зробили Ізраїлеві сини, та й поділили край.

Caleb Inherits Hebron

Then the children of Judah came to Joshua in Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him: “You know the word which the Lord said to Moses the man of God concerning you and me in Kadesh Barnea.

І підійшли Юдині сини до Ісуса в Ґілґалі, та й сказав до нього Кале́в, син Єфуннеїв, кеназзе́янин: „Ти знаєш те слово, що Господь говорив до Мойсея, Божого чоловіка, про мене та про тебе в Кадеш-Барнеа.

I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land, and I brought back word to him as it was in my heart.

Я був віку сорока́ літ, коли Мойсей, раб Господній, посилав мене з Кадеш-Барнеа ви́відати той край. І я доклав йому справу, як було в серці моїм.

Nevertheless my brethren who went up with me made the [a]heart of the people melt, but I wholly followed the Lord my God.

А мої браття, що ходили зо мною, знеси́лили були́ серце народу, а я обстава́в за Господом, Богом моїм.

9

So Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land where your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance and your children’s forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.’

І присягнув Мойсей того дня, говорячи: „Поправді кажу́, — той край, що нога твоя ходила в ньому, буде на спа́док тобі та синам твоїм аж навіки, бо ти обстава́в за Господом, Богом моїм.

10

And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the Lord spoke this word to Moses while Israel [b]wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old.

А тепер оце Господь позоставив мене при житті, як говорив. Оце сорок і п'ять літ відтоді́, як Господь говорив був це слово Мойсеєві, коли Ізраїль ходив у пустині. А тепер ось я віку восьмидесяти й п'яти літ.

As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in.

Сьогодні я ще сильний, як того дня, коли Мойсей посилав мене, — яка сила моя тоді, така сила моя й тепер, щоб воювати, і вихо́дити, і прихо́дити.

Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the Lord said.”

А тепер дай же мені цей гористий край, про який Господь говорив того дня, бо ти чув того дня, що там ве́летні та великі укрі́плені міста́. Може Господь буде зо мною, і я повиганяю їх, як говорив був Господь“.

And Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance.

І поблагословив його Ісус, і дав Калевові, синові Єфуннеєвому, Хевро́н за спа́док.

14

Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel.

Тому став Хевро́н Калевові, синові Єфуннеєвому, кеназзе́янинові, за спадок, і так є аж до цього дня, за те, що він обстава́в за Господом, Богом Ізраїля.

And the name of Hebron formerly was Kirjath Arba (Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim).
Then the land had rest from war.

А ім'я́ Хеврону давніше було Кір'ят-Арба, що між ве́летнів був найбільший чоловік. А Край заспоко́ївся від війни.
