Israel Crosses the Jordan

Then Joshua rose early in the morning; and they set out from [a]Acacia Grove and came to the Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they crossed over.

Ісус піднявся вранці, і вони вирушили із Саттіна, пішли до Йордану і там зупинилися для ночівлі перед переправою.

So it was, after three days, that the officers went through the camp;

І сталося, що через три дні писарі перейшли через табір

and they commanded the people, saying, “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the priests, the Levites, [b]bearing it, then you shall set out from your place and go after it.

і дали вказівку народові, проголошуючи: Коли побачите ковчег завіту Господа, нашого Бога, наших священиків і левітів, які його несуть, підведіться з ваших місць і підете за ним!

4

Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you must go, for you have not passed this way before.”

Але нехай буде велика віддаль між вами і ним, близько двох тисяч ліктів. Ви стоятимете, не будете наближатися до нього, щоб ви могли знати дорогу, якою підете, бо ви не йшли тією дорогою від учора й третього дня.

And Joshua said to the people, “Sanctify[c] yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.”

Тоді Ісус звернувся до народу: Очистіться на завтра, бо завтра поміж вами Господь учинить дивовижне!

Then Joshua spoke to the priests, saying, “Take up the ark of the covenant and cross over before the people.”
So they took up the ark of the covenant and went before the people.

А священикам Ісус сказав: Підніміть ковчег Господнього завіту і йдіть перед народом! І священики взяли ковчег Господнього завіту, і пішли перед народом.

7

And the Lord said to Joshua, “This day I will begin to exalt[d] you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.

І промовив Господь до Ісуса: У цей день починаю звеличувати тебе перед усіма ізраїльськими синами, щоби пізнали, що як Я був із Мойсеєм, так буду і з тобою.

8

You shall command the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, saying, ‘When you have come to the edge of the water of the Jordan, you shall stand in the Jordan.’ ”

Тепер же дай вказівку священикам, які несуть ковчег завіту, повелівши: Як тільки зайдете трохи у води Йордану, то станете в Йордані!

So Joshua said to the children of Israel, “Come here, and hear the words of the Lord your God.”

Тож Ісус сказав ізраїльським синам: Підійдіть сюди і послухайте слово Господа, вашого Бога.

And Joshua said, “By this you shall know that the living God is among you, and that He will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Hivites and the Perizzites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Jebusites:

Із цього дізнаєтеся, що є живий Бог між вами, і що Він неодмінно вигубить [1] перед вашим обличчям ханаанця, хета, ферезейця, евейця, ґерґесейця, аморейця і євусейця.

Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is crossing over before you into the Jordan.

Ось ковчег завіту Господа всієї землі переходить Йордан.

12

Now therefore, take for yourselves twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man from every tribe.

Виберіть собі дванадцять мужів з ізраїльських синів, по одному з кожного племені.

13

And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, the waters that come down from upstream, and they shall stand as a heap.”

І буде, коли в йорданській воді зупиняться ноги священиків, які несуть ковчег завіту Господа всієї землі, то йорданська вода відійде, а вода, що сходить згори, стане.

14

So it was, when the people set out from their camp to cross over the Jordan, with the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people,

І народ підвівся зі своїх наметів, щоби перейти Йордан, а священики підняли ковчег Господнього завіту перед народом.

15

and as those who bore the ark came to the Jordan, and the feet of the priests who bore the ark dipped in the edge of the water (for the Jordan overflows all its banks during the whole time of harvest),

Коли ж священики, які несли ковчег завіту, входили в Йордан, і ноги священиків, які несли ковчег Господнього завіту, скраю замочилися у воді Йордану, а Йордан був переповнений — у всьому своєму руслі, як у дні жнив пшениці,

that the waters which came down from upstream stood still, and rose in a heap very far away [e]at Adam, the city that is beside Zaretan. So the waters that went down into the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, failed, and were cut off; and the people crossed over opposite Jericho.

то вода, що стікала згори, стала, — стала суцільним валом на дуже-дуже далекій відстані, аж до околиць Каріятіріма, а та, що текла, потекла до Аравійського моря (до Солоного моря) доки повністю не зійшла. Народ же стояв перед Єрихоном.

Then the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan; and all Israel crossed over on dry ground, until all the people had crossed completely over the Jordan.

І священики, які несли ковчег Господнього завіту, стали на суші посеред Йордану. А всі ізраїльські сини переходили по суші, аж доки не закінчив увесь народ переходити Йордан.
