Qualifications of Overseers

This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a [a]bishop, he desires a good work.

1

Вірне це слово: коли хто єпи́скопства хоче, — доброго діла він пра́гне.

A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach;

А єпи́скоп має бути бездога́нний, муж однієї дружи́ни, тверезий, невинний, че́сний, гостинний до при́ходнів, здібний навчати,

not [b]given to wine, not violent, [c]not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not [d]covetous;

не п'яни́ця, не заводія́ка, але тихий, несварли́вий, не сріблолюбець,

one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence

4

щоб добре ряди́в власним домом, що має дітей у слухня́ності з повною чесністю, —

(for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?);

бо хто власним домом ряди́ти не вміє, я́к він зможе пильнува́ти про Божу Церкву? —

not a [e]novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.

не новонаве́рнений, щоб він не запишався, і не впав у ворожий о́суд.

Moreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

Треба, щоб мав він і добре засві́дчення від чужи́нців, щоб не впасти в догану та в сітку диявольську.

Qualifications of Deacons

Likewise deacons must be reverent, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for money,

Так само диякони́ мають бути поважні, не двомовці, не багато відда́ні вину, не соромнозахла́нні,

holding the [f]mystery of the faith with a pure conscience.

такі, що мають таємни́цю віри при чистім сумлінні.

But let these also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons, being found blameless.

Отже, і вони нехай перш випробо́вуються, а потому хай служать, якщо бу́дуть бездога́нні.

Likewise, their wives must be reverent, not [g]slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.

Так само жінки́ нехай будуть поважні, не обмовли́ві, тверезі та вірні в усьому.

Let deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

Диякони́ мусять бути мужі однієї дружи́ни, що добре рядя́ть дітьми́ й своїми домами.

For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a good standing and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Бо хто добре виконує службу, той до́брий ступі́нь набуває собі та велику відвагу в вірі через Христа Ісуса.

The Great Mystery

These things I write to you, though I hope to come to you shortly;

Це пишу́ я тобі, і сподіваюсь до тебе прийти незаба́ром.

but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and [h]ground of the truth.

А коли я спізнюся, то щоб знав ти, як треба пово́дитися в Божому домі, що ним є Церква Бога Живого, стовп і підвалина пра́вди.

16

And without controversy great is the [i]mystery of godliness:
God[j] was manifested in the flesh,
Justified in the Spirit,
Seen by angels,
Preached among the Gentiles,
Believed on in the world,
Received up in glory.

Безсумнівно, велика це таємни́ця благоче́стя: Хто в тілі з'яви́вся, Той оправданий Духом, а́нгола́м показався, проповіданий був між наро́дами, увірувано в Нього в світі, Він у славі вознісся!
