Honor Masters

Let as many bondservants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and His doctrine may not be blasphemed.

Let all who are under a yoke as bondservantsa regard their own masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be reviled.

And those who have believing masters, let them not despise them because they are brethren, but rather serve them because those who are benefited are believers and beloved. Teach and exhort these things.

Those who have believing masters must not be disrespectful on the ground that they are brothers; rather they must serve all the better since those who benefit by their good service are believers and beloved.

False Teachers and True Contentment

Teach and urge these things.

Error and Greed

If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the [a]doctrine which accords with godliness,

If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the soundb words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness,

he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions,

he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions,

[b]useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. [c]From such withdraw yourself.

and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.

Now godliness with contentment is great gain.

The Good Confession

But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.

But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing,

which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only [e]Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords,

which he will display at the proper time — he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords,

who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen.

Instructions to the Rich

Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.

Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share,

They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share,

storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

Guard the Faith

O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and [f]idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge —

O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge,”

by professing it some have strayed concerning the faith.
