Immediately, Abimelech called for Isaac and exclaimed, “She is obviously your wife! Why did you say, ‘She is my sister’?”
“Because I was afraid someone would kill me to get her from me,” Isaac replied.

And Abimelech called Isaac, and said, Behold, of a surety she is thy wife: and how saidst thou, She is my sister? And Isaac said unto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her.

Then Abimelech called Isaac and said, “Quite obviously she is your wife; so how could you say, ‘She is my sister’?”
Isaac said to him, “Because I said, ‘Lest I die on account of her.’ ” -

So Abimelek summoned Isaac and said, “She is really your wife! Why did you say, ‘She is my sister’?”
Isaac answered him, “Because I thought I might lose my life on account of her.” -

И призвал Авимелех Исаака и сказал: вот, это жена твоя; как же ты сказал: «она сестра моя»? Исаак сказал ему: потому что я думал, не умереть бы мне ради её.

І покликав Авімелех Ісака та й сказав: „Тож оце вона жінка твоя! А як ти сказав був: „Вона сестра моя?“ Ісак же йому відповів: „Бо сказав, щоб не вмерти мені через неї!“

Авимелех призвал Исаака и сказал:
— Итак, она твоя жена! Почему же ты сказал: «Она моя сестра»?
Исаак ответил ему:
— Потому что я думал, что могу за нее поплатиться жизнью. -
Тож покликав Авімелех Ісаака і сказав йому: Але ж вона твоя дружина! Навіщо ти сказав: Вона — моя сестра? А Ісаак відповів йому: Тому що я сказавсобі: аби мені не загинути через неї.
