New King James Version

  • Descendants of Esau

This is the account of the descendants of Esau (also known as Edom).
  • The Family of Esau

Now this is the genealogy of Esau, who is Edom.
  • Esau married two young women from Canaan: Adah, the daughter of Elon the Hittite; and Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite.
  • Esau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite; Aholibamah[a] the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite;
  • He also married his cousin Basemath, who was the daughter of Ishmael and the sister of Nebaioth.
  • and Basemath, Ishmael’s daughter, sister of Nebajoth.
  • Adah gave birth to a son named Eliphaz for Esau. Basemath gave birth to a son named Reuel.
  • Now Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, and Basemath bore Reuel.
  • Oholibamah gave birth to sons named Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. All these sons were born to Esau in the land of Canaan.
  • And [b]Aholibamah bore Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah. These were the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan.
  • Esau took his wives, his children, and his entire household, along with his livestock and cattle — all the wealth he had acquired in the land of Canaan — and moved away from his brother, Jacob.
  • Then Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the persons of his household, his cattle and all his animals, and all his goods which he had gained in the land of Canaan, and went to a country away from the presence of his brother Jacob.
  • There was not enough land to support them both because of all the livestock and possessions they had acquired.
  • For their possessions were too great for them to dwell together, and the land where they were strangers could not support them because of their livestock.
  • So Esau (also known as Edom) settled in the hill country of Seir.
  • So Esau dwelt in Mount Seir. Esau is Edom.
  • This is the account of Esau’s descendants, the Edomites, who lived in the hill country of Seir.
  • And this is the genealogy of Esau the father of the Edomites in Mount Seir.
  • These are the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz, the son of Esau’s wife Adah; and Reuel, the son of Esau’s wife Basemath.
  • These were the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, and Reuel the son of Basemath the wife of Esau.
  • The descendants of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.
  • And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, [c]Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.
  • Timna, the concubine of Esau’s son Eliphaz, gave birth to a son named Amalek. These are the descendants of Esau’s wife Adah.
  • Now Timna was the concubine of Eliphaz, Esau’s son, and she bore Amalek to Eliphaz. These were the sons of Adah, Esau’s wife.
  • The descendants of Reuel were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These are the descendants of Esau’s wife Basemath.
  • These were the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These were the sons of Basemath, Esau’s wife.

  • These were the sons of [d]Aholibamah, Esau’s wife, the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon. And she bore to Esau: Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah.
