And Absalom replied, “Because I wanted you to ask the king why he brought me back from Geshur if he didn’t intend to see me. I might as well have stayed there. Let me see the king; if he finds me guilty of anything, then let him kill me.”

And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent unto thee, saying, Come hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur? it had been good for me to have been there still: now therefore let me see the king's face; and if there be any iniquity in me, let him kill me.

And Absalom answered Joab, “Look, I sent to you, saying, ‘Come here, so that I may send you to the king, to say, “Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me to be there still.” ’ Now therefore, let me see the king’s face; but if there is iniquity in me, let him execute me.”

И сказал Авессалом Иоаву: вот, я посылал за тобою, говоря: приди сюда, и я пошлю тебя к царю сказать: зачем я пришёл из Гессура? Лучше было бы мне оставаться там. Я хочу увидеть лицо царя. Если же я виноват, то убей меня.

І відказав Авесалом Йоавові: “Дивись, я ж послав був до тебе сказати тобі: прийди сюди, пошлю тебе до царя, щоб ти сказав: чого я вернувся з Гешуру? Краще було б мені ще там бути. А тепер таки хочу побачити обличчя царя. Як я у чімсь винуватий, хай уб'є мене.”

І сказав Авесалом до Йоава: „Я ж посилав до тебе, говорячи: Прийди сюди, і нехай я пошлю́ тебе до царя сказати: Чого я прийшо́в із Ґешу́ру? Добре було б мені ще лишатися там. А тепер нехай я побачу царське́ обличчя, а якщо є на мені гріх, то нехай уб'є мене“.

Авессалом сказал Иоаву:
— Вот, я посылал к тебе сказать: «Приди, чтобы мне послать тебя спросить у царя: зачем я пришел из Гешура? Мне было бы лучше, если бы я все еще оставался там!» Я хочу видеть лицо царя, а если я в чем-нибудь виноват, пусть он предаст меня смерти. -
І сказав Авесалом Йоавові: Ось я посилав до тебе, закликаючи: Прийди сюди і пошлю тебе до царя, щоб сказати: Навіщо я прийшов з Ґедсура? Краще б мені було бути ще там. І тепер ось я досі не побачив обличчя царя! Якщо є в мені несправедливість, то вбий мене!
