But Joab replied to the king, “May the LORD your God let you live to see a hundred times as many people as there are now! But why, my lord the king, do you want to do this?”

And Joab said unto the king, Now the LORD thy God add unto the people, how many soever they be, an hundredfold, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it: but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing?

And Joab said to the king, “Now may the Lord your God add to the people a hundred times more than there are, and may the eyes of my lord the king see it. But why does my lord the king desire this thing?”

И сказал Иоав царю: Господь, Бог твой, да умножит столько народа, сколько есть, и ещё во сто раз столько, а очи господина моего, царя, да увидят это; но для чего господин мой, царь, желает этого дела?

І відповів Йоав цареві: “Нехай Господь, твій Бог, додасть народові сто разів стільки, як його є, і нехай очі царя, мого пана, бачать те, одначе чому, мій пан, забажав того?”

І сказав Йоа́в до царя: „Нехай же Господь, Бог твій, додасть до народу в сто раз стільки, скільки є, а очі мого пана, царя, бачать. Та на́що пан мій, цар, уподо́бав собі таку річ?“

Но Иоав ответил царю:
— Пусть Господь, твой Бог, умножит количество народа стократно, и пусть глаза моего господина царя, увидят это. Но зачем господин мой царь хочет сделать такое дело? -
А Йоав сказав цареві: І нехай додасть твій Господь Бог до народу скільки їх є і скільки їх є стократно, і очі мого володаря-царя бачать! Навіщо мій володар-цар бажає цієї справи?
