Queen Athaliah Rules in Judah
When Athaliah, the mother of King Ahaziah of Judah, learned that her son was dead, she began to destroy the rest of the royal family.

А коли Аталія, мати Ахазії, побачила, що помер її син, то встала та й вигубила все цареве насіння.
А Єгошева, дочка́ царя Йорама, сестра Ахазії, взяла Йоаша, сина Ахазії, та й викрала його з-поміж вби́ваних царськи́х синів, його та няньку його, і сховала в спальній кімна́ті. І схова́ли його від Аталії, і він не був забитий.
Joash remained hidden in the Temple of the LORD for six years while Athaliah ruled over the land.
І ховався він із нею в Господньому домі шість років, а Аталія царювала над краєм.
Revolt against Athaliah
In the seventh year of Athaliah’s reign, Jehoiada the priest summoned the commanders, the Carite mercenaries, and the palace guards to come to the Temple of the LORD. He made a solemn pact with them and made them swear an oath of loyalty there in the LORD’s Temple; then he showed them the king’s son.
А сьомого року послав Єгоя́да, і взяв сотників із карійців та бігунів, і привів їх до себе до Господнього дому, і склав із ними умову, і заприсягнув їх у Господньому домі, і показав їм царсько́го сина.
Jehoiada told them, “This is what you must do. A third of you who are on duty on the Sabbath are to guard the royal palace itself.
І він наказав їм, говорячи: „Оце та річ, яку зро́бите. Третина з вас, що прихо́дите в суботу, будете виконувати сторо́жу царсько́го дому.
Another third of you are to stand guard at the Sur Gate. And the final third must stand guard behind the palace guard. These three groups will all guard the palace.
А третина буде в брамі Сур, а третина — у брамі за бігуна́ми, — і будете виконувати сторо́жу дому на зміну.
The other two units who are off duty on the Sabbath must stand guard for the king at the LORD’s Temple.
А дві частині з вас, усі, що відходять у суботу, будуть виконувати сторо́жу Господнього дому при цареві.
Form a bodyguard around the king and keep your weapons in hand. Kill anyone who tries to break through. Stay with the king wherever he goes.”
І оточите царя навколо, кожен із своєю зброєю в руці своїй; а хто ввійшов би до рядів, нехай буде забитий. І будете ви з царем при виході його та при вході його“.
So the commanders did everything as Jehoiada the priest ordered. The commanders took charge of the men reporting for duty that Sabbath, as well as those who were going off duty. They brought them all to Jehoiada the priest,
І зроби́ли сотники все, що наказав священик Єгояда. І взяли́ кожен людей своїх, що прихо́дять у суботу та виходять у суботу, і прийшли до священика Єгояди.
and he supplied them with the spears and small shields that had once belonged to King David and were stored in the Temple of the LORD.
І дав священик сотникам списи́ та щити́, що нале́жали цареві Давидові, що були в Господньому домі.
The palace guards stationed themselves around the king, with their weapons ready. They formed a line from the south side of the Temple around to the north side and all around the altar.
І постава́ли бігуни́, кожен зо зброєю своєю в руці своїй, від правого боку дому аж до лівого боку дому, при же́ртівнику та при домі, навколо біля царя.
А він вивів царе́вого сина, і поклав на нього корону та нараме́нники. І зробили вони його царем, і пома́зали його, і вдарили в долоні та й крикнули: „Нехай живе цар!“
The Death of Athaliah
When Athaliah heard the noise made by the palace guards and the people, she hurried to the LORD’s Temple to see what was happening.
І почула Аталія голос бігунів та наро́ду, і прийшла до народу до Господнього дому.
When she arrived, she saw the newly crowned king standing in his place of authority by the pillar, as was the custom at times of coronation. The commanders and trumpeters were surrounding him, and people from all over the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets. When Athaliah saw all this, she tore her clothes in despair and shouted, “Treason! Treason!”
І побачила вона, аж ось цар стоїть за зви́чаєм на помо́сті, а при царі зверхники та су́рми, а ввесь народ кра́ю тішиться та сурми́ть у су́рми. І роздерла Аталія шати свої та й крикнула: „Зрада, зрада!“
А священик Єгояда наказав сотникам, поставленим над ві́йськом, і сказав до них: „Ви́провадьте її поза ряди́, а хто пі́де за нею, того́ забийте мечем!“ Бо священик сказав: „Нехай вона не буде забита в Господньому домі!“
So they seized her and led her out to the gate where horses enter the palace grounds, and she was killed there.
І зробили їй про́хід, і вона прийшла Кінським входом до царсько́го дому, і там була́ забита.
Jehoiada’s Religious Reforms
Then Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the people that they would be the LORD’s people. He also made a covenant between the king and the people.
І склав Єгояда заповіта між Господом та між царем і між народом, щоб був народом Господнім, і між царем та між народом.
And all the people of the land went over to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They demolished the altars and smashed the idols to pieces, and they killed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altars.

І ввійшов увесь наро́д Кра́ю до Ваалового дому, та й прозбива́ли його та же́ртівники його, і бовва́нів його зовсі́м полама́ли, а Маттана, Ваалового священика, убили перед же́ртівниками. А при Господньому домі священик поставив ва́рти.
Then the commanders, the Carite mercenaries, the palace guards, and all the people of the land escorted the king from the Temple of the LORD. They went through the gate of the guards and into the palace, and the king took his seat on the royal throne.
І взяв він сотників і карійців, і бігунів та ввесь народ кра́ю, і ви́вели царя з Господнього дому. І ввійшли вони через браму бігунів до царсько́го дому, і той сів на царсько́му троні.
