  • The descendants of Kohath included Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
  • And the sons of Kohath: Amram, Jizhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel.
  • The children of Amram were Aaron, Moses, and Miriam.
    The sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
  • And the children of Amram: Aaron, and Moses, and Miriam. And the sons of Aaron: Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
  • Eleazar was the father of Phinehas.

  • Their fellow Levites were appointed to various other tasks in the Tabernacle, the house of God.

  • Aaron’s Descendants

    Only Aaron and his descendants served as priests. They presented the offerings on the altar of burnt offering and the altar of incense, and they performed all the other duties related to the Most Holy Place. They made atonement for Israel by doing everything that Moses, the servant of God, had commanded them.

  • Territory for the Levites

    This is a record of the towns and territory assigned by means of sacred lots to the descendants of Aaron, who were from the clan of Kohath.
  • Territory for the Levites

    And these are their dwelling-places according to their encampments, within their borders. For the sons of Aaron, of the family of the Kohathites, for theirs was the lot;
  • This territory included Hebron and its surrounding pasturelands in Judah,
  • and they gave them Hebron in the land of Judah, and its suburbs round about it;
  • but the fields and outlying areas belonging to the city were given to Caleb son of Jephunneh.
  • but the fields of the city, and the hamlets thereof gave they to Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
  • So the descendants of Aaron were given the following towns, each with its pasturelands: Hebron (a city of refuge),k Libnah, Jattir, Eshtemoa,
  • And to the children of Aaron they gave the city of refuge, Hebron; and Libnah and its suburbs, and Jattir, and Eshtemoa and its suburbs,
  • Holon,l Debir,
  • and Hilen and its suburbs, Debir and its suburbs,
  • Ain,m Juttah,n and Beth-shemesh.
  • and Ashan and its suburbs, and Beth-shemesh and its suburbs;
  • And from the territory of Benjamin they were given Gibeon,o Geba, Alemeth, and Anathoth, each with its pasturelands. So thirteen towns were given to the descendants of Aaron.
  • and, out of the tribe of Benjamin, Geba and its suburbs, and Allemeth and its suburbs, and Anathoth and its suburbs: all their cities, thirteen cities, according to their families.
  • The remaining descendants of Kohath received ten towns from the territory of the half-tribe of Manasseh by means of sacred lots.
  • And to the children of Kohath that remained [were given] by lot out of the families of the tribe [of Ephraim and of the tribe of Dan and] of the half tribe, half Manasseh, ten cities.
  • The descendants of Gershon received by sacred lots thirteen towns from the territories of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and from the Bashan area of Manasseh, east of the Jordan.
  • And to the children of Gershom according to their families out of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities.
  • The descendants of Merari received by sacred lots twelve towns from the territories of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.
  • To the children of Merari [were given] by lot, according to their families, out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.
  • So the people of Israel assigned all these towns and pasturelands to the Levites.
  • And the children of Israel gave to the Levites the cities and their suburbs.
  • The towns in the territories of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin, mentioned above, were assigned to them by means of sacred lots.
  • And they gave by lot out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, and out of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, these cities which were mentioned by name.
  • The descendants of Kohath were given the following towns from the territory of Ephraim, each with its pasturelands:
  • And to the families of the children of Kohath who had the cities of their territory out of the tribe of Ephraim,
  • Shechem (a city of refuge in the hill country of Ephraim),p Gezer,
  • they gave the city of refuge, Shechem and its suburbs in mount Ephraim; and Gezer and its suburbs,
  • Jokmeam, Beth-horon,
  • and Jokmeam and its suburbs, and Beth-horon and its suburbs,
  • Aijalon, and Gath-rimmon.
  • and Ajalon and its suburbs, and Gath-Rimmon and its suburbs;
  • The remaining descendants of Kohath were assigned the towns of Aner and Bileam from the territory of the half-tribe of Manasseh, each with its pasturelands.
  • and out of the half tribe of Manasseh: Aner and its suburbs, and Bileam and its suburbs, -- for the families of the children of Kohath that remained.
  • The descendants of Gershon received the towns of Golan (in Bashan) and Ashtaroth from the territory of the half-tribe of Manasseh, each with its pasturelands.
  • To the children of Gershom [were given] out of the family of the half tribe of Manasseh: Golan in Bashan and its suburbs, and Ashtaroth and its suburbs;
  • From the territory of Issachar, they were given Kedesh, Daberath,
  • and out of the tribe of Issachar: Kedesh and its suburbs, Dobrath and its suburbs,
  • Ramoth, and Anem, each with its pasturelands.
  • and Ramoth and its suburbs, and Anem and its suburbs;
  • From the territory of Asher, they received Mashal, Abdon,
  • and out of the tribe of Asher: Mashal and its suburbs, and Abdon and its suburbs,
  • Hukok, and Rehob, each with its pasturelands.
  • and Hukok and its suburbs, and Rehob and its suburbs;
  • From the territory of Naphtali, they were given Kedesh in Galilee, Hammon, and Kiriathaim, each with its pasturelands.
  • and out of the tribe of Naphtali: Kedesh in Galilee and its suburbs, and Hammon and its suburbs, and Kirjathaim and its suburbs.
  • The remaining descendants of Merari received the towns of Jokneam, Kartah,q Rimmon,r and Tabor from the territory of Zebulun, each with its pasturelands.
  • To the children of Merari that remained [were given] out of the tribe of Zebulun, Rimmono and its suburbs, [and] Tabor and its suburbs;
  • From the territory of Reuben, east of the Jordan River opposite Jericho, they received Bezer (a desert town), Jahaz,s
  • and on the other side of the Jordan by Jericho, on the east side of the Jordan, out of the tribe of Reuben: Bezer in the wilderness and its suburbs, and Jahzah and its suburbs,
  • Kedemoth, and Mephaath, each with its pasturelands.
  • and Kedemoth and its suburbs, and Mephaath and its suburbs;
  • And from the territory of Gad, they received Ramoth in Gilead, Mahanaim,
  • and out of the tribe of Gad: Ramoth in Gilead and its suburbs, and Mahanaim and its suburbs,
  • Heshbon, and Jazer, each with its pasturelands.
  • and Heshbon and its suburbs, and Jaazer and its suburbs.
