Jehu son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him. “Why should you help the wicked and love those who hate the LORD?” he asked the king. “Because of what you have done, the LORD is very angry with you.
А йому назустріч вийшов Ію, син Ананія, пророк, і сказав йому: Царю Йосафате, чи ти допомагаєш грішному, чи дружиш з тим, кого ненавидить Господь? Через це на тобі був гнів від Господа.
Even so, there is some good in you, for you have removed the Asherah poles throughout the land, and you have committed yourself to seeking God.”
Але в тобі знайшлися добрі діла, бо ти знищив священні гаї із землі Юди і спрямував своє серце, щоб шукати Господа.
Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem, but he went out among the people, traveling from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim, encouraging the people to return to the LORD, the God of their ancestors.
І Йосафат поселився в Єрусалимі, і знову вийшов до людей з Вирсавії аж до гори Єфрема, і повернув їх до Господа, Бога їхніх батьків.
He appointed judges throughout the nation in all the fortified towns,
І він поставив суддів в усіх укріплених містах Юди, у кожному місті,
and he said to them, “Always think carefully before pronouncing judgment. Remember that you do not judge to please people but to please the LORD. He will be with you when you render the verdict in each case.
і сказав суддям: Глядіть, що ви робите, бо не для людини ви звершуєте суд, але для Господа, і з вами слова суду!
Fear the LORD and judge with integrity, for the LORD our God does not tolerate perverted justice, partiality, or the taking of bribes.”
Тепер же нехай на вас буде Господній страх, пильнуйте і звершуйте суд, бо немає в Господа, нашого Бога, беззаконня, щоб зважати на обличчя, чи брати хабарі!
Але і в Єрусалимі Йосафат поставив священиків, левітів і патріархів Ізраїля на Господній суд і щоб судити тих, хто живе в Єрусалимі.
These were his instructions to them: “You must always act in the fear of the LORD, with faithfulness and an undivided heart.
Він наказав їм, наставляючи: Так чинитимете в Господньому страху, у правді та від усього серця.
Whenever a case comes to you from fellow citizens in an outlying town, whether a murder case or some other violation of God’s laws, commands, decrees, or regulations, you must warn them not to sin against the LORD, so that he will not be angry with you and them. Do this and you will not be guilty.
Кожна людина з ваших братів, котрі живуть в їхніх містах, яка прийде до вас і принесе судову справу стосовно кровопролиття, стосовно припису і заповіді, або постанову чи судове рішення, і ви вирішуватимете для них, і вони не грішитимуть Господу, і не буде гніву на вас і на ваших братах. Так чинитимете, і не грішитимете!
“Amariah the high priest will have final say in all cases involving the LORD. Zebadiah son of Ishmael, a leader from the tribe of Judah, will have final say in all civil cases. The Levites will assist you in making sure that justice is served. Take courage as you fulfill your duties, and may the LORD be with those who do what is right.”
І ось священик, володар Амарія, над вами на всяке Господнє слово і Завдій, син Ізмаїла, володар над домом Юди, на всяке слово царя, писарі й левіти перед вами. Кріпіться і чиніть, і Господь буде з добрим!
