Ahaz Rules in Judah
Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. He did not do what was pleasing in the sight of the LORD, as his ancestor David had done.

Instead, he followed the example of the kings of Israel. He cast metal images for the worship of Baal.
І ходив він доро́гами Ізра́їлевих царів, а також робив литих бовванів Ваалів.
І він кадив у долині Бен-Гіннома, і палив своїх синів огнем за гидо́тами тих народів, що Господь повиганяв їх перед Ізраїлевими синами.
He offered sacrifices and burned incense at the pagan shrines and on the hills and under every green tree.
І він прино́сив же́ртви та кадив на па́гірках і на висо́тах, та під кожним зеленим деревом.
Because of all this, the LORD his God allowed the king of Aram to defeat Ahaz and to exile large numbers of his people to Damascus. The armies of the king of Israel also defeated Ahaz and inflicted many casualties on his army.
І дав його Господь, Бог його, в руку сирійського царя, і вони повбивали з його війська та взяли́ до неволі від нього багатьох полоне́них, і спровадили до Дама́ску. Крім то́го, він був ви́даний і в руку Ізраїлевого царя, і той ура́зив його великою пора́зою.
In a single day Pekah son of Remaliah, Israel’s king, killed 120,000 of Judah’s troops, all of them experienced warriors, because they had abandoned the LORD, the God of their ancestors.
І побив Пеках, син Ремалії, в Юді сто й двадцять тисяч одного дня, все мужів хоро́брих, за те, що залишили вони Господа, Бога їхніх батьків.
Then Zicri, a warrior from Ephraim, killed Maaseiah, the king’s son; Azrikam, the king’s palace commander; and Elkanah, the king’s second-in-command.
А Зіхрі, лицар Єфремів, забив Маасею, царсько́го сина, й Азрікама, володаря дому, й Елкану, другого по царі.
The armies of Israel captured 200,000 women and children from Judah and seized tremendous amounts of plunder, which they took back to Samaria.
І Ізраїлеві сини взяли́ до неволі зо своїх братів двісті тисяч жіно́к, синів та дочо́к, а також пограбува́ли від них велику здо́бич, і спрова́дили ту здобич до Самарії.
But a prophet of the LORD named Oded was there in Samaria when the army of Israel returned home. He went out to meet them and said, “The LORD, the God of your ancestors, was angry with Judah and let you defeat them. But you have gone too far, killing them without mercy, and all heaven is disturbed.
А там був Господній пророк, Одед ім'я́ йому. І він вийшов перед ві́йсько, що вхо́дило до Самарії, та й сказав їм: „Ось Господь, Бог ваших батькі́в, у гніві на Юду, віддав їх у вашу руку, а ви повибива́ли між ними з лютістю, яка досягла́ аж до небе́с.
And now you are planning to make slaves of these people from Judah and Jerusalem. What about your own sins against the LORD your God?
А тепер ви заду́муєте здобути собі за рабів та за неві́льниць дітей Юди та Єрусалиму. Чи ж за вами самими нема провин проти Господа, Бога вашого?
Listen to me and return these prisoners you have taken, for they are your own relatives. Watch out, because now the LORD’s fierce anger has been turned against you!”
Отож, послухайте мене тепер, і верніть тих полоне́них, яких взяли́ ви до неволі з ваших братів, бо на вас ре́вність Господнього гніву!“
І встали дехто з голів Єфремових синів: Азарія, син Єгоханана, Берехія, син Мешіллемотів, і Єхізкійя, син Шаллумів, і Амаса, син Хадлаїв, проти тих, що прихо́дили з ві́йська,
“You must not bring the prisoners here!” they declared. “We cannot afford to add to our sins and guilt. Our guilt is already great, and the LORD’s fierce anger is already turned against Israel.”
та й сказали до них: „Не приво́дьте цих полоне́них сюди, бо на провину нам проти Господа ви заду́муєте додати це до наших гріхів та до нашої прови́ни. Бо велика наша прови́на та жар гніву Господнього на Ізраїля!“
So the warriors released the prisoners and handed over the plunder in the sight of the leaders and all the people.
І озбро́єні покинули тих полоне́них та ту здо́бич перед зверхниками та всім збором.
Then the four men just mentioned by name came forward and distributed clothes from the plunder to the prisoners who were naked. They provided clothing and sandals to wear, gave them enough food and drink, and dressed their wounds with olive oil. They put those who were weak on donkeys and took all the prisoners back to their own people in Jericho, the city of palms. Then they returned to Samaria.
І встали ті мужі, що були́ озна́чені імена́ми, і взяли́ полоне́них, і всіх їхніх наги́х позодяга́ли зо здо́бичі, і зодягну́ли їх, і обу́ли їх, і нагодува́ли їх, і напоїли їх, і намасти́ли їх, і кожного слабо́го з них пове́зли на ослах. І припрова́дили їх до Єрихо́ну, мі́ста пальм, до їхніх братів, а самі вернулися до Самарії.
Ahaz Closes the Temple
At that time King Ahaz of Judah asked the king of Assyria for help.
Того ча́су послав цар Аха́з до асирійських царів, щоб допомогли́ йому.
The armies of Edom had again invaded Judah and taken captives.
Прийшли ще й едо́мляни, і побили багатьо́х між Юдою, і взяли до неволі полоне́них.
А филисти́мляни розси́палися по містах Шефелі та Юдиного Неґеву, і здобули́ Бет-Шемеш, і Айялон, і Ґедерот, і Сохо та зале́жні міста його, і Тімну та залежні міста її, і Ґімзо та залежні міста його, й осі́лися там.
Бо Господь прини́зив Юду через Ахаза, Ізраїлевого царя, бо завільно поступав він щодо Юди, і спроневі́рився великим гріхом проти Господа.
І прийшов на нього Тіґлат Пілнеесер, цар асирійський, й утискав його, і не допоміг йому.
Ahaz took valuable items from the LORD’s Temple, the royal palace, and from the homes of his officials and gave them to the king of Assyria as tribute. But this did not help him.
Бо Аха́з пограбував був Господній дім, і дім царів, і зверхників, і дав це асирійському царе́ві, та не було це на по́міч йому.
Even during this time of trouble, King Ahaz continued to reject the LORD.
А в ча́сі утиску його́, то продовжував спроневі́рюватися Господе́ві він, той цар Аха́з.
He offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus who had defeated him, for he said, “Since these gods helped the kings of Aram, they will help me, too, if I sacrifice to them.” But instead, they led to his ruin and the ruin of all Judah.
І прино́сив він жертви дама́ським бога́м, що його поби́ли, і говорив: „Через те, що боги сирійських царів допомагають їм, то бу́ду прино́сити їм жертви, і вони будуть допомагати мені!“ А вони були йому на те, щоб спотикався він та ввесь Ізраїль!
The king took the various articles from the Temple of God and broke them into pieces. He shut the doors of the LORD’s Temple so that no one could worship there, and he set up altars to pagan gods in every corner of Jerusalem.
І Ахаз зібрав по́суд Божого дому, і порубав по́суд Божого дому. І позамикав він двері Господнього дому, і поробив собі же́ртівники в кожному куті́ в Єрусалимі...
He made pagan shrines in all the towns of Judah for offering sacrifices to other gods. In this way, he aroused the anger of the LORD, the God of his ancestors.
І в кожному місті Юдиному пороби́в він па́гірки, щоб кадити іншим богам, — і розгні́вав Господа, Бога батьків своїх.
The rest of the events of Ahaz’s reign and everything he did, from beginning to end, are recorded in The Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.
А решта його діл та всі доро́ги його, перші й останні, ото вони описані в Книзі Царів Юдиних та Ізраїлевих.
When Ahaz died, he was buried in Jerusalem but not in the royal cemetery of the kings of Judah. Then his son Hezekiah became the next king.
І спочив Аха́з зо своїми батька́ми, і поховали його в місті, в Єрусалимі, бо не вне́сли його до гробі́в Ізраїлевих царів, а замість нього зацарював син його Єзекі́я.
