New Living Translation

King James Bible

  • A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem.

    I took my troubles to the LORD;
    I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer.
  • In My Distress, I Cried to the Lord

    {A Song of degrees.} In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me.
  • Rescue me, O LORD, from liars
    and from all deceitful people.
  • Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.
  • O deceptive tongue, what will God do to you?
    How will he increase your punishment?
  • What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?
  • You will be pierced with sharp arrows
    and burned with glowing coals.
  • Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.
  • How I suffer in far-off Meshech.
    It pains me to live in distant Kedar.
  • Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!
  • I am tired of living
    among people who hate peace.
  • My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace.
  • I search for peace;
    but when I speak of peace, they want war!
  • I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.
