New Living Translation

Darby Bible Translation

  • A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem.

    From my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me.
    Let all Israel repeat this:
  • Many Times They Have Afflicted Me

    {A Song of degrees.} Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth -- oh let Israel say --
  • From my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me,
    but they have never defeated me.
  • Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth; yet they have not prevailed against me.
  • My back is covered with cuts,
    as if a farmer had plowed long furrows.
  • The ploughers ploughed upon my back; they made long their furrows.
  • But the LORD is good;
    he has cut me free from the ropes of the ungodly.
  • Jehovah is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.
  • May all who hate Jerusalema
    be turned back in shameful defeat.
  • Let them be ashamed and turned backward, all that hate Zion;
  • May they be as useless as grass on a rooftop,
    turning yellow when only half grown,
  • Let them be as the grass upon the house-tops, which withereth before it is plucked up,
  • ignored by the harvester,
    despised by the binder.
  • Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand, nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom;
  • And may those who pass by
    refuse to give them this blessing:
    “The LORD bless you;
    we bless you in the LORD’s name.”
  • Neither do the passers-by say, The blessing of Jehovah be upon you; we bless you in the name of Jehovah!
