Darby Bible Translation

  • For the choir director: A psalm of David, the servant of the LORD. He sang this song to the LORD on the day the LORD rescued him from all his enemies and from Saul. He sang:

    I love you, LORD;
    you are my strength.
  • The Lord is My Rock

    {To the chief Musician. [A Psalm] of David, the servant of Jehovah, who spoke to Jehovah the words of this song in the day that Jehovah had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies and out of the hand of Saul. And he said,} I will love thee, O Jehovah, my strength.
  • The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior;
    my God is my rock, in whom I find protection.
    He is my shield, the power that saves me,
    and my place of safety.
  • Jehovah is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I will trust; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.
  • I called on the LORD, who is worthy of praise,
    and he saved me from my enemies.
  • I will call upon Jehovah, who is to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
  • The ropes of death entangled me;
    floods of destruction swept over me.
  • The bands of death encompassed me, and torrents of Belial made me afraid.
  • The gravea wrapped its ropes around me;
    death laid a trap in my path.
  • The bands of Sheol surrounded me, the cords of death encountered me.
  • But in my distress I cried out to the LORD;
    yes, I prayed to my God for help.
    He heard me from his sanctuary;
    my cry to him reached his ears.
  • In my distress I called upon Jehovah, and I cried out to my God; he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, into his ears.
  • Then the earth quaked and trembled.
    The foundations of the mountains shook;
    they quaked because of his anger.
  • Then the earth shook and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains trembled and shook, because he was wroth.
  • Smoke poured from his nostrils;
    fierce flames leaped from his mouth.
    Glowing coals blazed forth from him.
  • There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals burned forth from it.
  • He opened the heavens and came down;
    dark storm clouds were beneath his feet.
  • And he bowed the heavens, and came down; and darkness was under his feet.
  • Mounted on a mighty angelic being,b he flew,
    soaring on the wings of the wind.
  • And he rode upon a cherub and did fly; yea, he flew fast upon the wings of the wind.
  • He shrouded himself in darkness,
    veiling his approach with dark rain clouds.
  • He made darkness his secret place, his tent round about him: darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies.
  • Thick clouds shielded the brightness around him
    and rained down hail and burning coals.c
  • From the brightness before him his thick clouds passed forth: hail and coals of fire.
  • The LORD thundered from heaven;
    the voice of the Most High resounded
    amid the hail and burning coals.
  • And Jehovah thundered in the heavens, and the Most High uttered his voice: hail and coals of fire.
  • He shot his arrows and scattered his enemies;
    great bolts of lightning flashed, and they were confused.
  • And he sent his arrows, and scattered [mine enemies]; and he shot forth lightnings, and discomfited them.
  • Then at your command, O LORD,
    at the blast of your breath,
    the bottom of the sea could be seen,
    and the foundations of the earth were laid bare.
  • And the beds of the waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were uncovered at thy rebuke, Jehovah, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.
  • He reached down from heaven and rescued me;
    he drew me out of deep waters.
  • He reached forth from above, he took me, he drew me out of great waters:
  • He rescued me from my powerful enemies,
    from those who hated me and were too strong for me.
  • He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me; for they were mightier than I.
  • They attacked me at a moment when I was in distress,
    but the LORD supported me.
  • They encountered me in the day of my calamity, but Jehovah was my stay.
  • He led me to a place of safety;
    he rescued me because he delights in me.
  • And he brought me forth into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.
  • The LORD rewarded me for doing right;
    he restored me because of my innocence.
  • Jehovah hath rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.
  • For I have kept the ways of the LORD;
    I have not turned from my God to follow evil.
  • For I have kept the ways of Jehovah, and have not wickedly departed from my God.
  • I have followed all his regulations;
    I have never abandoned his decrees.
  • For all his ordinances were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me;
  • I am blameless before God;
    I have kept myself from sin.
  • And I was upright with him, and kept myself from mine iniquity.
  • The LORD rewarded me for doing right.
    He has seen my innocence.
  • And Jehovah hath recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.
  • To the faithful you show yourself faithful;
    to those with integrity you show integrity.
  • With the gracious thou dost shew thyself gracious; with the upright man thou dost shew thyself upright;
  • To the pure you show yourself pure,
    but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd.
  • With the pure thou dost shew thyself pure; and with the perverse thou dost shew thyself contrary.
  • You rescue the humble,
    but you humiliate the proud.
  • For it is thou that savest the afflicted people; but the haughty eyes wilt thou bring down.
  • You light a lamp for me.
    The LORD, my God, lights up my darkness.
  • For it is thou that makest my lamp to shine: Jehovah my God enlighteneth my darkness.
  • In your strength I can crush an army;
    with my God I can scale any wall.
  • For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.
  • God’s way is perfect.
    All the LORD’s promises prove true.
    He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.
  • As for God, his way is perfect; the word of Jehovah is tried: he is a shield to all that trust in him.
  • For who is God except the LORD?
    Who but our God is a solid rock?
  • For who is +God save Jehovah? and who is a rock if not our God?
  • God arms me with strength,
    and he makes my way perfect.
  • The God who girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect,
  • He makes me as surefooted as a deer,
    enabling me to stand on mountain heights.
  • Who maketh my feet like hinds' [feet], and setteth me upon my high places;
  • He trains my hands for battle;
    he strengthens my arm to draw a bronze bow.
  • Who teacheth my hands to war, and mine arms bend a bow of brass;
  • You have given me your shield of victory.
    Your right hand supports me;
    your helpd has made me great.
  • And thou didst give me the shield of thy salvation, and thy right hand held me up; and thy condescending gentleness hath made me great.
  • You have made a wide path for my feet
    to keep them from slipping.
  • Thou didst enlarge my steps under me, and mine ankles have not wavered.
  • I chased my enemies and caught them;
    I did not stop until they were conquered.
  • I pursued mine enemies, and overtook them; and I turned not again till they were consumed.
  • I struck them down so they could not get up;
    they fell beneath my feet.
  • I crushed them, and they were not able to rise: they fell under my feet.
  • You have armed me with strength for the battle;
    you have subdued my enemies under my feet.
  • And thou girdedst me with strength to battle; thou didst subdue under me those that rose up against me.
  • You placed my foot on their necks.
    I have destroyed all who hated me.
  • And mine enemies didst thou make to turn their backs unto me, and those that hated me I destroyed.
  • They called for help, but no one came to their rescue.
    They even cried to the LORD, but he refused to answer.
  • They cried, and there was none to save; -- unto Jehovah, and he answered them not.
  • I ground them as fine as dust in the wind.
    I swept them into the gutter like dirt.
  • And I did beat them small as dust before the wind; I did cast them out as the mire of the streets.
  • You gave me victory over my accusers.
    You appointed me ruler over nations;
    people I don’t even know now serve me.
  • Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; thou hast made me the head of the nations: a people I knew not doth serve me.
  • As soon as they hear of me, they submit;
    foreign nations cringe before me.
  • At the hearing of the ear, they obey me: strangers come cringing unto me.
  • They all lose their courage
    and come trembling from their strongholds.
  • Strangers have faded away, and they come trembling forth from their close places.
  • The LORD lives! Praise to my Rock!
    May the God of my salvation be exalted!
  • Jehovah liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of my salvation,
  • He is the God who pays back those who harm me;
    he subdues the nations under me
  • The God who hath avenged me, and hath subjected the peoples to me;
  • and rescues me from my enemies.
    You hold me safe beyond the reach of my enemies;
    you save me from violent opponents.
  • Who hath delivered me from mine enemies: yea, thou hast lifted me up above them that rose up against me; from the man of violence hast thou delivered me.
  • For this, O LORD, I will praise you among the nations;
    I will sing praises to your name.
  • Therefore will I give thanks to thee, Jehovah, among the nations, and will sing psalms to thy name.
  • You give great victories to your king;
    you show unfailing love to your anointed,
    to David and all his descendants forever.
  • [It is he] who giveth great deliverances to his king, and sheweth loving-kindness to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore.
