New Living Translation

New King James Version

  • A psalm of David.

    The LORD is my light and my salvation —
    so why should I be afraid?
    The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
    so why should I tremble?
  • An Exuberant Declaration of Faith

    A Psalm of David.

    The Lord is my light and my salvation;
    Whom shall I fear?
    The Lord is the strength of my life;
    Of whom shall I be afraid?
  • When evil people come to devour me,
    when my enemies and foes attack me,
    they will stumble and fall.
  • When the wicked came against me
    To eat[a] up my flesh,
    My enemies and foes,
    They stumbled and fell.
  • Though a mighty army surrounds me,
    my heart will not be afraid.
    Even if I am attacked,
    I will remain confident.
  • Though an army may encamp against me,
    My heart shall not fear;
    Though war may rise against me,
    In this I will be confident.
  • The one thing I ask of the LORD —
    the thing I seek most —
    is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,
    delighting in the LORD’s perfections
    and meditating in his Temple.
  • One thing I have desired of the Lord,
    That will I seek:
    That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
    All the days of my life,
    To behold the [b]beauty of the Lord,
    And to inquire in His temple.
  • For he will conceal me there when troubles come;
    he will hide me in his sanctuary.
    He will place me out of reach on a high rock.
  • For in the time of trouble
    He shall hide me in His pavilion;
    In the secret place of His tabernacle
    He shall hide me;
    He shall set me high upon a rock.
  • Then I will hold my head high
    above my enemies who surround me.
    At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy,
    singing and praising the LORD with music.
  • And now my head shall be [c]lifted up above my enemies all around me;
    Therefore I will offer sacrifices of [d]joy in His tabernacle;
    I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.
  • Hear me as I pray, O LORD.
    Be merciful and answer me!
  • Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice!
    Have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
  • My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.”
    And my heart responds, “LORD, I am coming.”
  • When You said, “Seek My face,”
    My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.”
  • Do not turn your back on me.
    Do not reject your servant in anger.
    You have always been my helper.
    Don’t leave me now; don’t abandon me,
    O God of my salvation!
  • Do not hide Your face from me;
    Do not turn Your servant away in anger;
    You have been my help;
    Do not leave me nor forsake me,
    O God of my salvation.
  • Even if my father and mother abandon me,
    the LORD will hold me close.
  • When my father and my mother forsake me,
    Then the Lord will take care of me.
  • Teach me how to live, O LORD.
    Lead me along the right path,
    for my enemies are waiting for me.
  • Teach me Your way, O Lord,
    And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.
  • Do not let me fall into their hands.
    For they accuse me of things I’ve never done;
    with every breath they threaten me with violence.
  • Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries;
    For false witnesses have risen against me,
    And such as breathe out violence.
  • Yet I am confident I will see the LORD’s goodness
    while I am here in the land of the living.
  • I would have lost heart, unless I had believed
    That I would see the goodness of the Lord
    In the land of the living.
  • Wait patiently for the LORD.
    Be brave and courageous.
    Yes, wait patiently for the LORD.
  • Wait[e] on the Lord;
    Be of good courage,
    And He shall strengthen your heart;
    Wait, I say, on the Lord!
