New Living Translation

Darby Bible Translation

  • For the choir director: A love song to be sung to the tune “Lilies.” A psalma of the descendants of Korah.

    Beautiful words stir my heart.
I will recite a lovely poem about the king,
for my tongue is like the pen of a skillful poet.
  • Your Throne is Forever

{To the chief Musician. Upon Shoshannim. Of the sons of Korah. An instruction; -- a song of the Beloved.} My heart is welling forth [with] a good matter: I say what I have composed touching the king. My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.
  • You are the most handsome of all.
Gracious words stream from your lips.
God himself has blessed you forever.
  • Thou art fairer than the sons of men; grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.
  • Put on your sword, O mighty warrior!
You are so glorious, so majestic!
  • Gird thy sword upon [thy] thigh, O mighty one, [in] thy majesty and thy splendour;
  • In your majesty, ride out to victory,
    defending truth, humility, and justice.
Go forth to perform awe-inspiring deeds!
  • And [in] thy splendour ride prosperously, because of truth and meekness [and] righteousness: and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.
  • Your arrows are sharp, piercing your enemies’ hearts.
The nations fall beneath your feet.
  • Thine arrows are sharp -- peoples fall under thee -- in the heart of the king's enemies.
  • Your throne, O God,b endures forever and ever.
You rule with a scepter of justice.
  • Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever; a sceptre of uprightness is the sceptre of thy kingdom:
  • You love justice and hate evil.
Therefore God, your God, has anointed you,
pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else.
  • Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated wickedness; therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy companions.
  • Myrrh, aloes, and cassia perfume your robes.
In ivory palaces the music of strings entertains you.
  • Myrrh and aloes, cassia, are all thy garments; out of ivory palaces stringed instruments have made thee glad.
  • Kings’ daughters are among your noble women.
At your right side stands the queen,
wearing jewelry of finest gold from Ophir!
  • Kings' daughters are among thine honourable women; upon thy right hand doth stand the queen in gold of Ophir.
  • Listen to me, O royal daughter; take to heart what I say.
Forget your people and your family far away.
  • Hearken, daughter, and see, and incline thine ear; and forget thine own people and thy father's house:
  • For your royal husband delights in your beauty;
honor him, for he is your lord.
  • And the king will desire thy beauty; for he is thy Lord, and worship thou him.
  • The princess of Tyrec will shower you with gifts.
The wealthy will beg your favor.
  • And the daughter of Tyre with a gift, the rich ones among the people, shall court thy favour.
  • The bride, a princess, looks glorious
    in her golden gown.
  • All glorious is the king's daughter within; her clothing is of wrought gold:
  • In her beautiful robes, she is led to the king,
    accompanied by her bridesmaids.
  • She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of embroidery; the virgins behind her, her companions, shall be brought in unto thee:
  • What a joyful and enthusiastic procession
as they enter the king’s palace!
  • With joy and gladness shall they be brought; they shall enter into the king's palace.
  • Your sons will become kings like their father.
You will make them rulers over many lands.
  • Instead of thy fathers shall be thy sons; princes shalt thou make them in all the earth.
  • I will bring honor to your name in every generation.
Therefore, the nations will praise you forever and ever.
  • I will make thy name to be remembered throughout all generations; therefore shall the peoples praise thee for ever and ever.
