Darby Bible Translation

  • For the choir director: A psalm of Asaph. A song to be accompanied by stringed instruments.

    God is honored in Judah;
    his name is great in Israel.
  • God's Name is Great in Israel

    {To the chief Musician. On stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph: a Song.} In Judah is God known, his name is great in Israel;
  • Jerusalema is where he lives;
    Mount Zion is his home.
  • And in Salem is his tent, and his dwelling-place in Zion.
  • There he has broken the fiery arrows of the enemy,
    the shields and swords and weapons of war.
    Interlude
  • There broke he the flashings of the bow, shield and sword and battle. Selah.
  • You are glorious and more majestic
    than the everlasting mountains.b
  • More glorious art thou, more excellent, than the mountains of prey.
  • Our boldest enemies have been plundered.
    They lie before us in the sleep of death.
    No warrior could lift a hand against us.
  • The stout-hearted are made a spoil, they have slept their sleep; and none of the men of might have found their hands.
  • At the blast of your breath, O God of Jacob,
    their horses and chariots lay still.
  • At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, both chariot and horse are cast into a dead sleep.
  • No wonder you are greatly feared!
    Who can stand before you when your anger explodes?
  • Thou, thou art to be feared, and who can stand before thee when once thou art angry?
  • From heaven you sentenced your enemies;
    the earth trembled and stood silent before you.
  • Thou didst cause judgment to be heard from the heavens; the earth feared, and was still,
  • You stand up to judge those who do evil, O God,
    and to rescue the oppressed of the earth.
    Interlude
  • When God rose up to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth. Selah.
  • Human defiance only enhances your glory,
    for you use it as a weapon.c
  • For the fury of man shall praise thee; the remainder of fury wilt thou gird on thyself.
  • Make vows to the LORD your God, and keep them.
    Let everyone bring tribute to the Awesome One.
  • Vow and pay unto Jehovah your God: let all that are round about him bring presents unto him that is to be feared.
  • For he breaks the pride of princes,
    and the kings of the earth fear him.
  • He cutteth off the spirit of princes; [he] is terrible to the kings of the earth.
