New King James Version

  • A psalm of Asaph.

    God presides over heaven’s court;
    he pronounces judgment on the heavenly beings:
  • A Plea for Justice

    A Psalm of Asaph.

    God stands in the congregation of [a]the mighty;
    He judges among the [b]gods.
  • “How long will you hand down unjust decisions
    by favoring the wicked?
    Interlude
  • How long will you judge unjustly,
    And show partiality to the wicked? Selah
  • “Give justice to the poor and the orphan;
    uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.
  • [c]Defend the poor and fatherless;
    Do justice to the afflicted and needy.
  • Rescue the poor and helpless;
    deliver them from the grasp of evil people.
  • Deliver the poor and needy;
    Free them from the hand of the wicked.
  • But these oppressors know nothing;
    they are so ignorant!
    They wander about in darkness,
    while the whole world is shaken to the core.
  • They do not know, nor do they understand;
    They walk about in darkness;
    All the foundations of the earth are [d]unstable.
  • I say, ‘You are gods;
    you are all children of the Most High.
  • I said, “You are [e]gods,
    And all of you are children of the Most High.
  • But you will die like mere mortals
    and fall like every other ruler.’”
  • But you shall die like men,
    And fall like one of the princes.”
  • Rise up, O God, and judge the earth,
    for all the nations belong to you.
  • Arise, O God, judge the earth;
    For You shall inherit all nations.
