Darby Bible Translation

  • A psalma of Ethan the Ezrahite.

    I will sing of the LORD’s unfailing love forever!
    Young and old will hear of your faithfulness.
  • I Will Sing of His Love Forever

    {An instruction. Of Ethan the Ezrahite.} I will sing of the loving-kindness of Jehovah for ever; with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness from generation to generation.
  • Your unfailing love will last forever.
    Your faithfulness is as enduring as the heavens.
  • For I said, Loving-kindness shall be built up for ever; in the very heavens wilt thou establish thy faithfulness.
  • The LORD said, “I have made a covenant with David, my chosen servant.
    I have sworn this oath to him:
  • I have made a covenant with mine elect, I have sworn unto David my servant:
  • ‘I will establish your descendants as kings forever;
    they will sit on your throne from now until eternity.’”
    Interlude
  • Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne from generation to generation. Selah.
  • All heaven will praise your great wonders, LORD;
    myriads of angels will praise you for your faithfulness.
  • And the heavens shall celebrate thy wonders, O Jehovah, and thy faithfulness in the congregation of the saints.
  • For who in all of heaven can compare with the LORD?
    What mightiest angel is anything like the LORD?
  • For who in the heaven can be compared to Jehovah? [who] among the sons of the mighty shall be likened to Jehovah?
  • The highest angelic powers stand in awe of God.
    He is far more awesome than all who surround his throne.
  • God is greatly to be feared in the council of the saints, and terrible for all that are round about him.
  • O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies!
    Where is there anyone as mighty as you, O LORD?
    You are entirely faithful.
  • Jehovah, God of hosts, who is like unto thee, the strong Jah? And thy faithfulness is round about thee.
  • You rule the oceans.
    You subdue their storm-tossed waves.
  • *Thou* rulest the pride of the sea: when its waves arise, *thou* stillest them.
  • You crushed the great sea monster.b
    You scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.
  • Thou hast crushed Rahab as one that is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with the arm of thy strength.
  • The heavens are yours, and the earth is yours;
    everything in the world is yours — you created it all.
  • Thine are the heavens, the earth also is thine; the world and its fulness, *thou* hast founded them.
  • You created north and south.
    Mount Tabor and Mount Hermon praise your name.
  • The north and the south, *thou* hast created them: Tabor and Hermon triumph in thy name.
  • Powerful is your arm!
    Strong is your hand!
    Your right hand is lifted high in glorious strength.
  • Thine is the arm of might: strong is thy hand, high is thy right hand.
  • Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne.
    Unfailing love and truth walk before you as attendants.
  • Righteousness and judgment are the foundation of thy throne; loving-kindness and truth go before thy face.
  • Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship,
    for they will walk in the light of your presence, LORD.
  • Blessed is the people that know the shout of joy: they walk, O Jehovah, in the light of thy countenance.
  • They rejoice all day long in your wonderful reputation.
    They exult in your righteousness.
  • In thy name are they joyful all the day, and in thy righteousness are they exalted.
  • You are their glorious strength.
    It pleases you to make us strong.
  • For thou art the glory of their strength; and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.
  • Yes, our protection comes from the LORD,
    and he, the Holy One of Israel, has given us our king.
  • For Jehovah is our shield, and the Holy One of Israel, our king.
  • Long ago you spoke in a vision to your faithful people.
    You said, “I have raised up a warrior.
    I have selected him from the common people to be king.
  • Then thou spakest in vision of thy Holy One, and saidst, I have laid help upon a mighty one; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.
  • I have found my servant David.
    I have anointed him with my holy oil.
  • I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:
  • I will steady him with my hand;
    with my powerful arm I will make him strong.
  • With whom my hand shall be established; and mine arm shall strengthen him.
  • His enemies will not defeat him,
    nor will the wicked overpower him.
  • No enemy shall exact upon him, nor the son of wickedness afflict him;
  • I will beat down his adversaries before him
    and destroy those who hate him.
  • But I will beat down his adversaries before his face, and will smite them that hate him.
  • My faithfulness and unfailing love will be with him,
    and by my authority he will grow in power.
  • And my faithfulness and my loving-kindness shall be with him, and by my name shall his horn be exalted.
  • I will extend his rule over the sea,
    his dominion over the rivers.
  • And I will set his hand in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.
  • And he will call out to me, ‘You are my Father,
    my God, and the Rock of my salvation.’
  • *He* shall call unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation;
  • I will make him my firstborn son,
    the mightiest king on earth.
  • And as to me, I will make him firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.
  • I will love him and be kind to him forever;
    my covenant with him will never end.
  • My loving-kindness will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him;
  • I will preserve an heir for him;
    his throne will be as endless as the days of heaven.
  • And I will establish his seed for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.
  • But if his descendants forsake my instructions
    and fail to obey my regulations,
  • If his sons forsake my law, and walk not in mine ordinances;
  • if they do not obey my decrees
    and fail to keep my commands,
  • If they profane my statutes, and keep not my commandments:
  • then I will punish their sin with the rod,
    and their disobedience with beating.
  • Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.
  • But I will never stop loving him
    nor fail to keep my promise to him.
  • Nevertheless my loving-kindness will I not utterly take from him, nor belie my faithfulness;
  • No, I will not break my covenant;
    I will not take back a single word I said.
  • My covenant will I not profane, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
  • I have sworn an oath to David,
    and in my holiness I cannot lie:
  • Once have I sworn by my holiness; I will not lie unto David:
  • His dynasty will go on forever;
    his kingdom will endure as the sun.
  • His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me;
  • It will be as eternal as the moon,
    my faithful witness in the sky!”
    Interlude
  • It shall be established for ever as the moon, and the witness in the sky is firm. Selah.
  • But now you have rejected him and cast him off.
    You are angry with your anointed king.
  • But thou hast rejected and cast off; thou hast been very wroth with thine anointed:
  • You have renounced your covenant with him;
    you have thrown his crown in the dust.
  • Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant; thou hast profaned his crown to the ground:
  • You have broken down the walls protecting him
    and ruined every fort defending him.
  • Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strongholds to ruin.
  • Everyone who comes along has robbed him,
    and he has become a joke to his neighbors.
  • All that pass by the way plunder him; he is become a reproach to his neighbours.
  • You have strengthened his enemies
    and made them all rejoice.
  • Thou hast exalted the right hand of his oppressors; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice:
  • You have made his sword useless
    and refused to help him in battle.
  • Yea, thou hast turned back the edge of his sword, and hast not made him stand in the battle.
  • You have ended his splendor
    and overturned his throne.
  • Thou hast made his brightness to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground;
  • You have made him old before his time
    and publicly disgraced him.
    Interlude
  • The days of his youth hast thou shortened; thou hast covered him with shame. Selah.
  • O LORD, how long will this go on?
    Will you hide yourself forever?
    How long will your anger burn like fire?
  • How long, Jehovah, wilt thou hide thyself for ever? shall thy fury burn like fire?
  • Remember how short my life is,
    how empty and futile this human existence!
  • Remember, as regards me, what life is. Wherefore hast thou created all the children of men to be vanity?
  • No one can live forever; all will die.
    No one can escape the power of the grave.c
    Interlude
  • What man liveth, and shall not see death? Shall he deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah.
  • Lord, where is your unfailing love?
    You promised it to David with a faithful pledge.
  • Where, Lord, are thy former loving-kindnesses, [which] thou swarest unto David in thy faithfulness?
  • Consider, Lord, how your servants are disgraced!
    I carry in my heart the insults of so many people.
  • Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants -- that I bear in my bosom [that of] all the mighty peoples --
  • Your enemies have mocked me, O LORD;
    they mock your anointed king wherever he goes.
  • Wherewith thine enemies, O Jehovah, have reproached, wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.
  • Praise the LORD forever!
    Amen and amen!
  • Blessed be Jehovah for evermore! Amen, and Amen.
