Третього місяця по ви́ході Ізраїлевих синів із єгипетського краю, того дня прибули́ вони на Сіна́йську пустиню.
After breaking camp at Rephidim, they came to the wilderness of Sinai and set up camp there at the base of Mount Sinai.
І рушили вони з Рефідіму, і ввійшли до Сінайської пустині, та й ота́борилися в пустині. І ота́борився там Ізраїль навпроти гори.
Then Moses climbed the mountain to appear before God. The LORD called to him from the mountain and said, “Give these instructions to the family of Jacob; announce it to the descendants of Israel:
А Мойсей увійшов до Бога. І кликнув до нього Господь із гори, говорячи: „Скажеш отак дому Якова, і звістиш синам Ізраїля:
‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians. You know how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.
Ви бачили, що́ Я зробив був Єгиптові, і носив вас на кри́лах орли́них, і привів вас до Себе.
Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me.
А тепер, коли справді послухаєте Мого голосу, і будете дотримувати запові́ту Мого, то станете Мені власністю більше всіх народів, бо вся земля — то Моя!
And you will be my kingdom of priests, my holy nation.’ This is the message you must give to the people of Israel.”
А ви станете Мені ца́рством священиків та народом святим. Оце ті речі, що про них будеш казати Ізраїлевим синам“.
So Moses returned from the mountain and called together the elders of the people and told them everything the LORD had commanded him.
І прибув Мойсей, і покликав і старши́х наро́дніх, та й виложив перед ними всі ті слова́, що Господь наказав був йому.
And all the people responded together, “We will do everything the LORD has commanded.” So Moses brought the people’s answer back to the LORD.
І відповів увесь народ ра́зом, та й сказав: „Усе, що Господь говорив, зро́бимо!“ А Мойсей доніс слова́ народу до Господа.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “I will come to you in a thick cloud, Moses, so the people themselves can hear me when I speak with you. Then they will always trust you.”

І промовив Господь до Мойсея: „Ось Я до те́бе прийду́ в густій хмарі, щоб чув народ, коли Я говоритиму з тобою, і щоб повірив і тобі навіки!“ І переповів Мойсей слова народу до Господа.
Then the LORD told Moses, “Go down and prepare the people for my arrival. Consecrate them today and tomorrow, and have them wash their clothing.
І промовив Господь до Мойсея: „Іди до люде́й, і освяти їх сьогодні та взавтра, і нехай вони ви́перуть одіж свою.
Be sure they are ready on the third day, for on that day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai as all the people watch.
І нехай вони будуть готові на третій день, бо третього дня зі́йде Господь на го́ру Сіна́й на оча́х усього народу.
Mark off a boundary all around the mountain. Warn the people, ‘Be careful! Do not go up on the mountain or even touch its boundaries. Anyone who touches the mountain will certainly be put to death.
І обведеш границею народ довко́ла, говорячи: Стережіться схо́дити на го́ру й доторкуватися до кра́ю її. Кожен, хто доторкне́ться до гори́, буде ко́нче забитий!
Нехай не доторкне́ться до неї рука, бо буде ко́нче вкамено́ваний, або буде справді застрілений, чи то худо́бина, чи то люди́на, — не буде жити вона. Як сурма засурмить протяжливо, вони вийдуть на го́ру“.
So Moses went down to the people. He consecrated them for worship, and they washed their clothes.
І зійшов Мойсей з гори до народу, і освятив народ, а вони ви́прали одежу свою.
He told them, “Get ready for the third day, and until then abstain from having sexual intercourse.”
І він сказав до народу: „Будьте готові на третій день; не входьте до жіно́к “.
On the morning of the third day, thunder roared and lightning flashed, and a dense cloud came down on the mountain. There was a long, loud blast from a ram’s horn, and all the people trembled.
І сталося третього дня, коли ра́нок настав, — і знялися гро́ми та бли́скавки, і густа хмара над горою та сильний голос сурми! І затремтів увесь народ, що був у табо́рі...
Moses led them out from the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain.
І вивів Мойсей наро́д із табо́ру назустріч Богові, і вони стали під горою.
All of Mount Sinai was covered with smoke because the LORD had descended on it in the form of fire. The smoke billowed into the sky like smoke from a brick kiln, and the whole mountain shook violently.
А гора Сіна́й — уся вона димува́ла через те, що Господь зійшов на неї в огні! І піднявся дим її, немов дим вапня́рки, і сильно затремтіла вся гора.
As the blast of the ram’s horn grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God thundered his reply.
І розлігся голос сурми́, і він сильно все могутнів: Мойсей говорить, а Бог відповідає йому голосно.
The LORD came down on the top of Mount Sinai and called Moses to the top of the mountain. So Moses climbed the mountain.
І зійшов Господь на го́ру Сіна́й, на верхі́в'я гори. І покликав Господь Мойсея на верхів'я гори. І вийшов Мойсей.
Then the LORD told Moses, “Go back down and warn the people not to break through the boundaries to see the LORD, or they will die.
І промовив Господь до Мойсея: „Зійди, остережи народ, щоб не рвався до Господа, щоб побачити, бо багато з нього загине.
Even the priests who regularly come near to the LORD must purify themselves so that the LORD does not break out and destroy them.”
А також священики, що будуть підходити до Господа, нехай перше освятяться, щоб Господь їх не повбива́в“.
“But LORD,” Moses protested, “the people cannot come up to Mount Sinai. You already warned us. You told me, ‘Mark off a boundary all around the mountain to set it apart as holy.’”
І сказав Мойсей до Господа: „Не зможе народ вийти на го́ру Сінай, бо Ти засві́дчив між нами, говорячи: Обведи границею цю го́ру, і освяти її“.
But the LORD said, “Go down and bring Aaron back up with you. In the meantime, do not let the priests or the people break through to approach the LORD, or he will break out and destroy them.”
І промовив до нього Господь: „Іди, зійди, а потім вийди ти й Аарон з тобою, а священики й народ нехай не рвуться до Господа, щоб Я не повбива́в їх.
