New Living Translation

New King James Version

  • Making the Garments of the Priesthood

    Of the blue, purple, and scarlet thread they made garments[a] of ministry, for ministering in the [b]holy place, and made the holy garments for Aaron, as the Lord had commanded Moses.

  • Clothing for the Priests

    The craftsmen made beautiful sacred garments of blue, purple, and scarlet cloth — clothing for Aaron to wear while ministering in the Holy Place, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
    Making the Ephod

    Bezalela made the ephod of finely woven linen and embroidered it with gold and with blue, purple, and scarlet thread.
  • Making the Ephod

    He made the ephod of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and of fine woven linen.
  • He made gold thread by hammering out thin sheets of gold and cutting it into fine strands. With great skill and care, he worked it into the fine linen with the blue, purple, and scarlet thread.
  • And they beat the gold into thin sheets and cut it into threads, to work it in with the blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and the fine linen, into artistic designs.
  • The ephod consisted of two pieces, front and back, joined at the shoulders with two shoulder-pieces.
  • They made shoulder straps for it to couple it together; it was coupled together at its two edges.
  • The decorative sash was made of the same materials: finely woven linen embroidered with gold and with blue, purple, and scarlet thread, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
  • And the intricately woven band of his ephod that was on it was of the same workmanship, woven of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and of fine woven linen, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
  • They mounted the two onyx stones in settings of gold filigree. The stones were engraved with the names of the tribes of Israel, just as a seal is engraved.
  • And they set onyx stones, enclosed in [c]settings of gold; they were engraved, as signets are engraved, with the names of the sons of Israel.
  • He fastened these stones on the shoulder-pieces of the ephod as a reminder that the priest represents the people of Israel. All this was done just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
  • He put them on the shoulders of the ephod as memorial stones for the sons of Israel, as the Lord had commanded Moses.

  • Making the Chestpiece

    Bezalel made the chestpiece with great skill and care. He made it to match the ephod, using finely woven linen embroidered with gold and with blue, purple, and scarlet thread.
  • Making the Breastplate

    And he made the breastplate, artistically woven like the workmanship of the ephod, of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and of fine woven linen.
  • He made the chestpiece of a single piece of cloth folded to form a pouch nine inchesb square.
  • They made the breastplate square by doubling it; a span was its length and a span its width when doubled.
  • They mounted four rows of gemstonesc on it. The first row contained a red carnelian, a pale-green peridot, and an emerald.
  • And they set in it four rows of stones: a row with a sardius, a topaz, and an emerald was the first row;
  • The second row contained a turquoise, a blue lapis lazuli, and a white moonstone.
  • the second row, a turquoise, a sapphire, and a diamond;
  • The third row contained an orange jacinth, an agate, and a purple amethyst.
  • the third row, a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;
  • The fourth row contained a blue-green beryl, an onyx, and a green jasper. All these stones were set in gold filigree.
  • the fourth row, a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper. They were enclosed in settings of gold in their mountings.
  • Each stone represented one of the twelve sons of Israel, and the name of that tribe was engraved on it like a seal.
  • There were twelve stones according to the names of the sons of Israel: according to their names, engraved like a signet, each one with its own name according to the twelve tribes.
  • To attach the chestpiece to the ephod, they made braided cords of pure gold thread.
  • And they made chains for the breastplate at the ends, like braided cords of pure gold.
  • They also made two settings of gold filigree and two gold rings and attached them to the top corners of the chestpiece.
  • They also made two settings of gold and two gold rings, and put the two rings on the two ends of the breastplate.
  • They tied the two gold cords to the rings on the chestpiece.
  • And they put the two braided chains of gold in the two rings on the ends of the breastplate.
  • They tied the other ends of the cords to the gold settings on the shoulder-pieces of the ephod.
  • The two ends of the two braided chains they fastened in the two settings, and put them on the shoulder straps of the ephod in the front.
  • Then they made two more gold rings and attached them to the inside edges of the chestpiece next to the ephod.
  • And they made two rings of gold and put them on the two ends of the breastplate, on the edge of it, which was on the inward side of the ephod.
  • Then they made two more gold rings and attached them to the front of the ephod, below the shoulder-pieces, just above the knot where the decorative sash was fastened to the ephod.
  • They made two other gold rings and put them on the two shoulder straps, underneath the ephod toward its front, right at the seam above the intricately woven band of the ephod.
  • They attached the bottom rings of the chestpiece to the rings on the ephod with blue cords. In this way, the chestpiece was held securely to the ephod above the decorative sash. All this was done just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
  • And they bound the breastplate by means of its rings to the rings of the ephod with a blue cord, so that it would be above the intricately woven band of the ephod, and that the breastplate would not come loose from the ephod, as the Lord had commanded Moses.

  • Additional Clothing for the Priests

    Bezalel made the robe that is worn with the ephod from a single piece of blue woven cloth,
  • Making the Other Priestly Garments

    He made the robe of the ephod of woven work, all of blue.
  • with an opening for Aaron’s head in the middle of it. The opening was reinforced with a woven collard so it would not tear.
  • And there was an opening in the middle of the robe, like the opening in a coat of mail, with a woven binding all around the opening, so that it would not tear.
  • They made pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and attached them to the hem of the robe.
  • They made on the hem of the robe pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet, and of fine woven linen.
  • They also made bells of pure gold and placed them between the pomegranates along the hem of the robe,
  • And they made bells of pure gold, and put the bells between the pomegranates on the hem of the robe all around between the pomegranates:
  • with bells and pomegranates alternating all around the hem. This robe was to be worn whenever the priest ministered before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
  • a bell and a pomegranate, a bell and a pomegranate, all around the hem of the robe to [d]minister in, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
  • They made tunics for Aaron and his sons from fine linen cloth.
  • They made tunics, artistically woven of fine linen, for Aaron and his sons,
  • The turban and the special head coverings were made of fine linen, and the undergarments were also made of finely woven linen.
  • a turban of fine linen, exquisite hats of fine linen, short trousers of fine woven linen,
  • The sashes were made of finely woven linen and embroidered with blue, purple, and scarlet thread, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
  • and a sash of fine woven linen with blue, purple, and scarlet thread, made by a weaver, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
  • Finally, they made the sacred medallion — the badge of holiness — of pure gold. They engraved it like a seal with these words: Holy to the Lord.
  • Then they made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and wrote on it an inscription like the engraving of a signet:
    HOLINESS TO THE LORD.
  • They attached the medallion with a blue cord to Aaron’s turban, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
  • And they tied to it a blue cord, to fasten it above on the turban, as the Lord had commanded Moses.

  • Moses Inspects the Work

    And so at last the Tabernaclee was finished. The Israelites had done everything just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
  • The Work Completed

    Thus all the work of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting was finished. And the children of Israel did according to all that the Lord had commanded Moses; so they did.
  • And they brought the entire Tabernacle to Moses:
    the sacred tent with all its furnishings, clasps, frames, crossbars, posts, and bases;
  • And they brought the tabernacle to Moses, the tent and all its furnishings: its clasps, its boards, its bars, its pillars, and its sockets;
  • the tent coverings of tanned ram skins and fine goatskin leather;
    the inner curtain to shield the Ark;
  • the covering of ram skins dyed red, the covering of badger skins, and the veil of the covering;
  • the Ark of the Covenantf and its carrying poles;
    the Ark’s cover — the place of atonement;
  • the ark of the Testimony with its poles, and the mercy seat;
  • the table and all its utensils;
    the Bread of the Presence;
  • the table, all its utensils, and the showbread;
  • the pure gold lampstand with its symmetrical lamp cups, all its accessories, and the olive oil for lighting;
  • the pure gold lampstand with its lamps (the lamps set in order), all its utensils, and the oil for light;
  • the gold altar;
    the anointing oil and fragrant incense;
    the curtain for the entrance of the sacred tent;
  • the gold altar, the anointing oil, and the sweet incense; the screen for the tabernacle door;
  • the bronze altar;
    the bronze grating and its carrying poles and utensils;
    the washbasin with its stand;
  • the bronze altar, its grate of bronze, its poles, and all its utensils; the laver with its base;
  • the curtains for the walls of the courtyard;
    the posts and their bases;
    the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard;
    the ropes and tent pegs;
    all the furnishings to be used in worship at the Tabernacle;
  • the hangings of the court, its pillars and its sockets, the screen for the court gate, its cords, and its pegs; all the utensils for the service of the tabernacle, for the tent of meeting;
  • the beautifully stitched garments for the priests to wear while ministering in the Holy Place — the sacred garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments for his sons to wear as they minister as priests.
  • and the [e]garments of ministry, to [f]minister in the holy place: the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and his sons’ garments, to minister as priests.
  • So the people of Israel followed all of the LORD’s instructions to Moses.
  • According to all that the Lord had commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did all the work.
  • Then Moses inspected all their work. When he found it had been done just as the LORD had commanded him, he blessed them.
  • Then Moses looked over all the work, and indeed they had done it; as the Lord had commanded, just so they had done it. And Moses blessed them.
