    The proverbs of Solomon:
    A wise childa brings joy to a father;
    a foolish child brings grief to a mother.
  • Contrast of the Righteous and the Wicked

    The proverbs of Solomon.
    A wise son makes a father glad,
    But a foolish son is a grief to his mother.
  • Tainted wealth has no lasting value,
    but right living can save your life.
  • Ill-gotten gains do not profit,
    But righteousness delivers from death.
  • The LORD will not let the godly go hungry,
    but he refuses to satisfy the craving of the wicked.
  • The LORD will not allow the righteous to hunger,
    But He will reject the craving of the wicked.
  • Lazy people are soon poor;
    hard workers get rich.
  • Poor is he who works with a negligent hand,
    But the hand of the diligent makes rich.
  • A wise youth harvests in the summer,
    but one who sleeps during harvest is a disgrace.
  • He who gathers in summer is a son who acts wisely,
    But he who sleeps in harvest is a son who acts shamefully.
  • The godly are showered with blessings;
    the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions.
  • Blessings are on the head of the righteous,
    But the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
  • We have happy memories of the godly,
    but the name of a wicked person rots away.
  • The memory of the righteous is blessed,
    But the name of the wicked will rot.
  • The wise are glad to be instructed,
    but babbling fools fall flat on their faces.
  • The wise of heart will receive commands,
    But a babbling fool will be ruined.
  • People with integrity walk safely,
    but those who follow crooked paths will be exposed.
  • He who walks in integrity walks securely,
    But he who perverts his ways will be found out.
  • People who wink at wrong cause trouble,
    but a bold reproof promotes peace.b
  • He who winks the eye causes trouble,
    And a babbling fool will be ruined.
  • The words of the godly are a life-giving fountain;
    the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions.
  • The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life,
    But the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
  • Hatred stirs up quarrels,
    but love makes up for all offenses.
  • Hatred stirs up strife,
    But love covers all transgressions.
  • Wise words come from the lips of people with understanding,
    but those lacking sense will be beaten with a rod.
  • On the lips of the discerning, wisdom is found,
    But a rod is for the back of him who lacks understanding.
  • Wise people treasure knowledge,
    but the babbling of a fool invites disaster.
  • Wise men store up knowledge,
    But with the mouth of the foolish, ruin is at hand.
  • The wealth of the rich is their fortress;
    the poverty of the poor is their destruction.
  • The rich man’s wealth is his fortress,
    The ruin of the poor is their poverty.
  • The earnings of the godly enhance their lives,
    but evil people squander their money on sin.
  • The wages of the righteous is life,
    The income of the wicked, punishment.
  • People who accept discipline are on the pathway to life,
    but those who ignore correction will go astray.
  • He is on the path of life who heeds instruction,
    But he who ignores reproof goes astray.
  • Hiding hatred makes you a liar;
    slandering others makes you a fool.
  • He who conceals hatred has lying lips,
    And he who spreads slander is a fool.
  • Too much talk leads to sin.
    Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.
  • When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable,
    But he who restrains his lips is wise.
  • The words of the godly are like sterling silver;
    the heart of a fool is worthless.
  • The tongue of the righteous is as choice silver,
    The heart of the wicked is worth little.
  • The words of the godly encourage many,
    but fools are destroyed by their lack of common sense.
  • The lips of the righteous feed many,
    But fools die for lack of understanding.
  • The blessing of the LORD makes a person rich,
    and he adds no sorrow with it.
  • It is the blessing of the LORD that makes rich,
    And He adds no sorrow to it.
  • Doing wrong is fun for a fool,
    but living wisely brings pleasure to the sensible.
  • Doing wickedness is like sport to a fool,
    And so is wisdom to a man of understanding.
  • The fears of the wicked will be fulfilled;
    the hopes of the godly will be granted.
  • What the wicked fears will come upon him,
    But the desire of the righteous will be granted.
  • When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away,
    but the godly have a lasting foundation.
  • When the whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more,
    But the righteous has an everlasting foundation.
  • Lazy people irritate their employers,
    like vinegar to the teeth or smoke in the eyes.
  • Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes,
    So is the lazy one to those who send him.
  • Fear of the LORD lengthens one’s life,
    but the years of the wicked are cut short.
  • The fear of the LORD prolongs life,
    But the years of the wicked will be shortened.
  • The hopes of the godly result in happiness,
    but the expectations of the wicked come to nothing.
  • The hope of the righteous is gladness,
    But the expectation of the wicked perishes.
  • The way of the LORD is a stronghold to those with integrity,
    but it destroys the wicked.
  • The way of the LORD is a stronghold to the upright,
    But ruin to the workers of iniquity.
  • The godly will never be disturbed,
    but the wicked will be removed from the land.
  • The righteous will never be shaken,
    But the wicked will not dwell in the land.
  • The mouth of the godly person gives wise advice,
    but the tongue that deceives will be cut off.
  • The mouth of the righteous flows with wisdom,
    But the perverted tongue will be cut out.
  • The lips of the godly speak helpful words,
    but the mouth of the wicked speaks perverse words.
  • The lips of the righteous bring forth what is acceptable,
    But the mouth of the wicked what is perverted.
