Trusting in the LORD

My child,a never forget the things I have taught you.
Store my commands in your heart.

Сину мій, не забудь ти моєї науки, і нехай мої заповіді стережу́ть твоє серце,

If you do this, you will live many years,
and your life will be satisfying.

бо примно́жать для тебе вони довготу́ твоїх днів, і років життя та споко́ю!

3

Never let loyalty and kindness leave you!
Tie them around your neck as a reminder.
Write them deep within your heart.

Ми́лість та правда нехай не зали́шать тебе, — прив'яжи́ їх до шиї своєї, напиши їх на табли́ці серця свого, —

4

Then you will find favor with both God and people,
and you will earn a good reputation.

і зна́йдеш ти ласку та добру премудрість в очах Бога й люди́ни!

5

Trust in the LORD with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.

5

Наді́йся на Господа всім своїм серцем, а на розум свій не покладайся!

6

Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.

Пізнавай ти Його на всіх доро́гах своїх, і Він випростує твої стежки.

7

Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.
Instead, fear the LORD and turn away from evil.

Не будь мудрий у власних оча́х, — бійся Господа та ухиляйся від злого!

8

Then you will have healing for your body
and strength for your bones.

8

Це буде ліком для тіла твого, напо́єм для ко́стей твоїх.

9

Honor the LORD with your wealth
and with the best part of everything you produce.

Шануй Господа із маєтку свого́, і з початку всіх пло́дів своїх, —

10

Then he will fill your barns with grain,
and your vats will overflow with good wine.

і будуть комори твої перепо́внені си́тістю, а чави́ла твої будуть перелива́тись вином молоди́м!

11

My child, don’t reject the LORD’s discipline,
and don’t be upset when he corrects you.

Мій сину, кара́ння Господнього не відкидай, і карта́ння Його не вважай тягаре́м, —

12

For the LORD corrects those he loves,
just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.b

бо кого́ Господь любить, карта́є того, і кохає, немов батько сина!

13

Joyful is the person who finds wisdom,
the one who gains understanding.

Блаженна люди́на, що мудрість знайшла, і люди́на, що розум оде́ржала,

14

For wisdom is more profitable than silver,
and her wages are better than gold.

14

бо ліпше надба́ння її від надба́ння срібла́, і від щирого золота ліпший прибу́ток її,

15

Wisdom is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.

15

дорожча за пе́рли вона, і всіляке жада́ння твоє не зрівняється з нею.

16

She offers you long life in her right hand,
and riches and honor in her left.

16

Довгість днів — у прави́ці її, багатство та слава — в ліви́ці її.

17

She will guide you down delightful paths;
all her ways are satisfying.

Доро́ги її — то дороги приємности, всі стежки́ її — мир.

18

Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her;
happy are those who hold her tightly.

Вона дерево життя для тих, хто тримається міцно її, і блаженний, хто де́ржить її!

19

By wisdom the LORD founded the earth;
by understanding he created the heavens.

19

Господь мудрістю землю заклав, небо розумом міцно поставив.

20

By his knowledge the deep fountains of the earth burst forth,
and the dew settles beneath the night sky.

20

Знання́м Його порозкрива́лись безо́дні, і кроплять росою ті хмари.

21

My child, don’t lose sight of common sense and discernment.
Hang on to them,

21

Мій сину, нехай від оче́й твоїх це не відхо́дить, стережи добрий розум і розважність,

22

for they will refresh your soul.
They are like jewels on a necklace.

і вони будуть життям для твоєї душі, і прикра́сою шиї твоєї, —

23

They keep you safe on your way,
and your feet will not stumble.

Тоді пі́деш безпечно своєю дорогою, а нога твоя не спотикне́ться!

24

You can go to bed without fear;
you will lie down and sleep soundly.

Якщо покладе́шся — не будеш боятись, а ляжеш, то буде приємний твій сон.

25

You need not be afraid of sudden disaster
or the destruction that comes upon the wicked,

Не бу́деш боятися на́глого стра́ху, ні бурі безбожних, як при́йде, —

26

for the LORD is your security.
He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap.

бо твоєю надією буде Госпо́дь, і Він пильнуватиме но́гу твою, щоб вона не зловилась у пастку!

27

Do not withhold good from those who deserve it
when it’s in your power to help them.

27

Не стримуй добра́ потребу́ючому, коли в силі твоєї руки́ це вчини́ти,

28

If you can help your neighbor now, don’t say,
“Come back tomorrow, and then I’ll help you.”

не кажи своїм ближнім: „Іди, і зно́ву прийди, а взавтра я дам“, коли маєш з собою.

29

Don’t plot harm against your neighbor,
for those who live nearby trust you.

Не вио́рюй лихого на свого ближнього, коли він безпечно з тобою сидить.

30

Don’t pick a fight without reason,
when no one has done you harm.

30

Не сварися з люди́ною дармо, якщо злого вона не вчинила тобі.

31

Don’t envy violent people
or copy their ways.

31

Не за́здри наси́льникові, і ні одніє́ї з доріг його не вибирай,

32

Such wicked people are detestable to the LORD,
but he offers his friendship to the godly.

32

бо бри́дить Господь крутія́ми, а з праведними в Нього дружба.

33

The LORD curses the house of the wicked,
but he blesses the home of the upright.

33

Прокля́ття Господнє на домі безбожного, а ме́шкання праведних Він благосло́вить, —

34

The LORD mocks the mockers
but is gracious to the humble.c

34

з насмішників Він насміхається, а покі́рливим милість дає.

35

The wise inherit honor,
but fools are put to shame!

35

Мудрі славу вспадко́вують, а нерозумні носи́тимуть со́ром.
