Judgment against Judah

The Lord, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies,
will take away from Jerusalem and Judah
everything they depend on:
every bit of bread
and every drop of water,

Бо Госпо́дь ось, Господь Савао́т візьме з Єрусали́му й з Юдеї підпо́ру й опо́ру: усяку підпо́ру від хліба, і всяку підпо́ру води,

2

all their heroes and soldiers,
judges and prophets,
fortune-tellers and elders,

2

ли́царя та вояка́, суддю та пророка, і чарівника́ та старо́го,

3

army officers and high officials,
advisers, skilled sorcerers, and astrologers.

п'ятдеся́тника та родови́того, і радника, і в мисте́цтві премудрого, і в закля́ттях умі́лого, —

4

I will make boys their leaders,
and toddlers their rulers.

4

і за прави́телів дам юнакі́в, і дітваки́ запанують над ними!

5

People will oppress each other —
man against man,
neighbor against neighbor.
Young people will insult their elders,
and vulgar people will sneer at the honorable.

І буде чави́ти наро́д один о́дного, і кожен свого бли́жнього! Повстане хлопча́к на старо́го, а легковажений на поважа́ного.

6

In those days a man will say to his brother,
“Since you have a coat, you be our leader!
Take charge of this heap of ruins!”

Бо схо́пить брат брата свого́ в домі батька свого та й скаже: „Ти маєш оде́жу, то будь нашим прави́телем, і під рукою твоєю хай буде руї́на оця“!

7

But he will reply,
“No! I can’t help.
I don’t have any extra food or clothes.
Don’t put me in charge!”

Того дня він піді́йме свій голос та й скаже: „Не бу́ду я ра́ни обв'я́зувати вам, бо в домі моєму немає ні хліба, ні о́дягу, — не настановля́йте мене за прави́теля люду“!

8

For Jerusalem will stumble,
and Judah will fall,
because they speak out against the LORD and refuse to obey him.
They provoke him to his face.

Бо рухнув Єрусалим, і впала Юде́я, бо їхній язик та їхній чин — проти Господа, щоб упе́ртими бути оча́м Його слави.

9

The very look on their faces gives them away.
They display their sin like the people of Sodom
and don’t even try to hide it.
They are doomed!
They have brought destruction upon themselves.

Проти них свідчить ви́раз лиця їхнього, а гріх свій вони виявля́ють, немов той Содо́м, не пере́чать. Горе їхній душі, бо вчинили вони собі зло!

10

Tell the godly that all will be well for them.
They will enjoy the rich reward they have earned!

Скажіте про праведного: Буде до́бре йому, бо вони споживу́ть плід учи́нків своїх.

11

But the wicked are doomed,
for they will get exactly what they deserve.

11

Та горе безбожному, зле, бо йому́ буде зро́блений чин його рук!

12

Childish leaders oppress my people,
and women rule over them.
O my people, your leaders mislead you;
they send you down the wrong road.

Наро́д Мій, — діти́ська його утиска́ють, а жінки́ мають го́ру над ним... Наро́де ти Мій, — твої провідники́ вчинили блудя́чим тебе, і дорогу стежо́к твоїх сплу́тали!

13

The LORD takes his place in court
and presents his case against his people.a

13

Госпо́дь став на прю, і стоїть, щоб судити наро́ди.

14

The LORD comes forward to pronounce judgment
on the elders and rulers of his people:
“You have ruined Israel, my vineyard.
Your houses are filled with things stolen from the poor.

14

Господь іде на суд, щоб судитись з старши́ми наро́ду Свого́ та з вождя́ми його́: „Ви виногра́дника зни́щили, грабу́нок з убогого — в ваших дома́х!

15

How dare you crush my people,
grinding the faces of the poor into the dust?”
demands the Lord, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.
A Warning to Jerusalem

Що це сталося вам, що наро́д Мій ви гно́бите та утискаєте вбогих?“ Так говорить Госпо́дь, Бог Савао́т.

16

The LORD says, “Beautiful Zionb is haughty:
craning her elegant neck,
flirting with her eyes,
walking with dainty steps,
tinkling her ankle bracelets.

16

І промовив Господь: Зате, що до́чки Сіонські загорді́ли, і ходять витягненоши́ї, і морга́ють очима, і все ходять дрібни́ми кро́чками, і дзвонять спря́жками на ногах своїх,

17

So the Lord will send scabs on her head;
the LORD will make beautiful Zion bald.”

тому вчи́нить Господь ті́м'я Сіонських дочо́к паршивим, і їхній сором обнажить Господь!

18

On that day of judgment
the Lord will strip away everything that makes her beautiful:
ornaments, headbands, crescent necklaces,

Того дня поскидає Господь окра́су спря́жок на їхніх ногах, і чі́льця, і місяці,

19

earrings, bracelets, and veils;

19

сережки, нараме́нники, і серпа́нки,

20

scarves, ankle bracelets, sashes,
perfumes, and charms;

20

і заво́ї, і ланцюжки́ на ногах, і пояски́, і пляшечки́ з па́хощами, і чарівни́чі при́віски,

21

rings, jewels,

21

персні, і сережки носові́,

22

party clothes, gowns, capes, and purses;

22

чудо́ві убра́ння, і окриття́, і намітки та торби,

23

mirrors, fine linen garments,
head ornaments, and shawls.

23

дзеркала́ й льняні хито́ни та турба́ни, і прозо́рі покрива́ла.

24

Instead of smelling of sweet perfume, she will stink.
She will wear a rope for a sash,
and her elegant hair will fall out.
She will wear rough burlap instead of rich robes.
Shame will replace her beauty.c

І ста́неться, замість бальза́му — смо́рід буде, і замість по́яса — шнур, а замість мисте́цько укла́дених кучерів — ли́сина, і замість хито́на цінно́го — вере́та з паско́м, а замість краси́ — спалени́на!

25

The men of the city will be killed with the sword,
and her warriors will die in battle.

25

Попа́дають му́жі твої від меча́, а лица́рство твоє — на війні, —

26

The gates of Zion will weep and mourn.
The city will be like a ravaged woman,
huddled on the ground.

26

і бу́дуть стогна́ти та пла́кати воро́та її, і буде спусто́шена, й сяде на землю Сіонська дочка́.
