New Living Translation

New King James Version

  • Hope for Restoration

    Even the wilderness and desert will be glad in those days.
    The wasteland will rejoice and blossom with spring crocuses.
  • The Future Glory of Zion

    The wilderness and the [a]wasteland shall be glad for them,
    And the desert[b] shall rejoice and blossom as the rose;
  • Yes, there will be an abundance of flowers
    and singing and joy!
    The deserts will become as green as the mountains of Lebanon,
    as lovely as Mount Carmel or the plain of Sharon.
    There the LORD will display his glory,
    the splendor of our God.
  • It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice,
    Even with joy and singing.
    The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it,
    The excellence of Carmel and Sharon.
    They shall see the glory of the Lord,
    The excellency of our God.
  • With this news, strengthen those who have tired hands,
    and encourage those who have weak knees.
  • Strengthen the [c]weak hands,
    And make firm the [d]feeble knees.
  • Say to those with fearful hearts,
    “Be strong, and do not fear,
    for your God is coming to destroy your enemies.
    He is coming to save you.”
  • Say to those who are fearful-hearted,
    “Be strong, do not fear!
    Behold, your God will come with vengeance,
    With the recompense of God;
    He will come and save you.”
  • And when he comes, he will open the eyes of the blind
    and unplug the ears of the deaf.
  • Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,
    And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.
  • The lame will leap like a deer,
    and those who cannot speak will sing for joy!
    Springs will gush forth in the wilderness,
    and streams will water the wasteland.
  • Then the lame shall leap like a deer,
    And the tongue of the dumb sing.
    For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness,
    And streams in the desert.
  • The parched ground will become a pool,
    and springs of water will satisfy the thirsty land.
    Marsh grass and reeds and rushes will flourish
    where desert jackals once lived.
  • The parched ground shall become a pool,
    And the thirsty land springs of water;
    In the habitation of jackals, where each lay,
    There shall be grass with reeds and rushes.
  • And a great road will go through that once deserted land.
    It will be named the Highway of Holiness.
    Evil-minded people will never travel on it.
    It will be only for those who walk in God’s ways;
    fools will never walk there.
  • A highway shall be there, and a road,
    And it shall be called the Highway of Holiness.
    The unclean shall not pass over it,
    But it shall be for others.
    Whoever walks the road, although a fool,
    Shall not go astray.
  • Lions will not lurk along its course,
    nor any other ferocious beasts.
    There will be no other dangers.
    Only the redeemed will walk on it.
  • No lion shall be there,
    Nor shall any ravenous beast go up on it;
    It shall not be found there.
    But the redeemed shall walk there,
  • Those who have been ransomed by the LORD will return.
    They will enter Jerusalema singing,
    crowned with everlasting joy.
    Sorrow and mourning will disappear,
    and they will be filled with joy and gladness.
  • And the ransomed of the Lord shall return,
    And come to Zion with singing,
    With everlasting joy on their heads.
    They shall obtain joy and gladness,
    And sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
