Darby Bible Translation

  • The Savior of Israel

But now, O Jacob, listen to the LORD who created you.
O Israel, the one who formed you says,
“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.
I have called you by name; you are mine.
  • Israel's Only Savior

But now thus saith Jehovah, that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed thee, I have called [thee] by thy name; thou art mine.
  • When you go through deep waters,
    I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty,
    you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression,
    you will not be burned up;
the flames will not consume you.
  • When thou passest through the waters, I [will be] with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee; when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned, neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
  • For I am the LORD, your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.
    I gave Egypt as a ransom for your freedom;
I gave Ethiopiaa and Seba in your place.
  • For I [am] Jehovah thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.
  • Others were given in exchange for you.
I traded their lives for yours
because you are precious to me.
You are honored, and I love you.
  • Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee; and I will give men for thee, and peoples for thy life.
  • “Do not be afraid, for I am with you.
I will gather you and your children from east and west.
  • Fear not, for I [am] with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;
  • I will say to the north and south,
‘Bring my sons and daughters back to Israel
from the distant corners of the earth.
  • I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from afar, and my daughters from the end of the earth,
  • Bring all who claim me as their God,
for I have made them for my glory.
It was I who created them.’”
  • every one that is called by my name, and whom I have created for my glory: I have formed him, yea, I have made him.
  • Bring out the people who have eyes but are blind,
who have ears but are deaf.
  • Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears.
  • Gather the nations together!
Assemble the peoples of the world!
Which of their idols has ever foretold such things?
Which can predict what will happen tomorrow?
Where are the witnesses of such predictions?
Who can verify that they spoke the truth?
  • Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the peoples be assembled: who among them declareth this, or causeth us to hear former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified; or let them hear, and say, [It is] truth.
  • “But you are my witnesses, O Israel!” says the LORD.
    “You are my servant.
You have been chosen to know me, believe in me,
and understand that I alone am God.
There is no other God —
there never has been, and there never will be.
  • Ye are my witnesses, saith Jehovah, and my servant whom I have chosen; that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I [am] HE: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
  • I, yes I, am the LORD,
and there is no other Savior.
  • I, I [am] Jehovah; and besides me there is no saviour.
  • First I predicted your rescue,
then I saved you and proclaimed it to the world.
No foreign god has ever done this.
You are witnesses that I am the only God,”
    says the LORD.
  • It is I that have declared, and have saved, and have shewed, when there was no strange [god] among you; and ye are my witnesses, saith Jehovah, that I [am] God.
  • “From eternity to eternity I am God.
No one can snatch anyone out of my hand.
No one can undo what I have done.”
  • Yea, since the day was, I [am] HE, and there is none that delivereth out of my hand: I will work, and who shall hinder it?

  • The LORD’s Promise of Victory

This is what the LORD says — your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
“For your sakes I will send an army against Babylon,
forcing the Babyloniansb to flee in those ships they are so proud of.
  • The Destruction of Babylon Foretold

Thus saith Jehovah, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and have brought all of them down as fugitives, even the Chaldeans, whose cry is in the ships.
  • I am the LORD, your Holy One,
    Israel’s Creator and King.
  • I [am] Jehovah, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.
  • I am the LORD, who opened a way through the waters,
making a dry path through the sea.
  • Thus saith Jehovah, who maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters,
  • I called forth the mighty army of Egypt
with all its chariots and horses.
I drew them beneath the waves, and they drowned,
their lives snuffed out like a smoldering candlewick.
  • who bringeth forth chariot and horse, army and power -- they lie down together, they shall not rise; they are extinct, they are quenched as tow:
  • “But forget all that —
it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.
  • Deliverance for God's People

-- Remember not the former things, neither consider the ancient things:
  • For I am about to do something new.
See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness.
I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.
  • behold, I do a new thing; now it shall spring forth: shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the waste.
  • The wild animals in the fields will thank me,
    the jackals and owls, too,
for giving them water in the desert.
Yes, I will make rivers in the dry wasteland
so my chosen people can be refreshed.
  • The beast of the field shall glorify me, the jackals and the ostriches; for I will give waters in the wilderness, rivers in the waste, to give drink to my people, my chosen.
  • I have made Israel for myself,
and they will someday honor me before the whole world.
  • This people have I formed for myself: they shall shew forth my praise.
  • “But, dear family of Jacob, you refuse to ask for my help.
You have grown tired of me, O Israel!
  • Israel's Unfaithfulness

-- But thou hast not called upon me, Jacob; for thou hast been weary of me, O Israel:
  • You have not brought me sheep or goats for burnt offerings.
You have not honored me with sacrifices,
though I have not burdened and wearied you
with requests for grain offerings and frankincense.
  • thou hast not brought me the small cattle of thy burnt-offerings, neither hast thou glorified me with thy sacrifices. I have not caused thee to toil with an oblation, nor wearied thee with incense.
  • You have not brought me fragrant calamus
or pleased me with the fat from sacrifices.
Instead, you have burdened me with your sins
and wearied me with your faults.
  • Thou hast bought me no sweet cane with money, neither hast thou filled me with the fat of thy sacrifices; but thou hast made me to toil with thy sins, thou hast wearied me with thine iniquities.
  • “I — yes, I alone — will blot out your sins for my own sake
and will never think of them again.
  • -- I, I [am] He that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and I will not remember thy sins.
  • Let us review the situation together,
and you can present your case to prove your innocence.
  • Put me in remembrance, let us plead together; rehearse thine own [cause], that thou mayest be justified.
  • From the very beginning, your first ancestor sinned against me;
all your leaders broke my laws.
  • Thy first father hath sinned, and thy mediators have rebelled against me.
  • That is why I have disgraced your priests;
I have decreed complete destructionc for Jacob
    and shame for Israel.
  • And I have profaned the princes of the sanctuary, and have given Jacob to the ban, and Israel to reproaches.
