Darby Bible Translation

  • Ezekiel’s Call and Commission

“Stand up, son of man,” said the voice. “I want to speak with you.”
  • Ezekiel's Call

And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak with thee.
  • The Spirit came into me as he spoke, and he set me on my feet. I listened carefully to his words.
  • And the Spirit entered into me when he spoke unto me, and set me upon my feet; and I heard him that spoke unto me.
  • “Son of man,” he said, “I am sending you to the nation of Israel, a rebellious nation that has rebelled against me. They and their ancestors have been rebelling against me to this very day.
  • And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to nations that are rebellious, which have rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me unto this very day;
  • They are a stubborn and hard-hearted people. But I am sending you to say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says!’
  • and these children are impudent and hard-hearted: I am sending thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah.
  • And whether they listen or refuse to listen — for remember, they are rebels — at least they will know they have had a prophet among them.
  • And they, whether they will hear or whether they will forbear -- for they are a rebellious house -- yet shall they know that there hath been a prophet among them.
  • “Son of man, do not fear them or their words. Don’t be afraid even though their threats surround you like nettles and briers and stinging scorpions. Do not be dismayed by their dark scowls, even though they are rebels.
  • And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, and be not afraid of their words; for briars and thorns are with thee, and thou dwellest among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, and be not dismayed at their faces; for they are a rebellious house.
  • You must give them my messages whether they listen or not. But they won’t listen, for they are completely rebellious!
  • And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear or whether they will forbear; for they are rebellious.
  • Son of man, listen to what I say to you. Do not join them in their rebellion. Open your mouth, and eat what I give you.”
  • And thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee.
  • Then I looked and saw a hand reaching out to me. It held a scroll,
  • And I looked, and behold, a hand was put forth toward me; and behold, a roll of a book therein.
  • which he unrolled. And I saw that both sides were covered with funeral songs, words of sorrow, and pronouncements of doom.
  • And he spread it out before me; and it was written within and without; and there were written in it lamentations, and mourning, and woe.
