    Israel’s Love for Wickedness

    “I want to heal Israel, but itsa sins are too great.
    Samaria is filled with liars.
    Thieves are on the inside
    and bandits on the outside!

    откроются грехи Ефрема
    и преступления столицы Самарии будут разоблачены.
    Люди обманывают,
    воры пробираются в дома,
    разбойники грабят на улицах,

    Its people don’t realize
    that I am watching them.
    Their sinful deeds are all around them,
    and I see them all.

    но они не осознают,
    что Я помню все их злые дела.
    Их преступления окружают их,
    грехи их всегда передо Мной.

    “The people entertain the king with their wickedness,
    and the princes laugh at their lies.

    Они веселят царя своим злодейством,
    Вождей — своей ложью.

    They are all adulterers,
    always aflame with lust.
    They are like an oven that is kept hot
    while the baker is kneading the dough.

    Все они — распутники,
    пылают, словно печь,
    чей огонь не нужно поддерживать пекарю
    с момента замешивания теста и до тех пор,
    пока оно не поднимется.

    On royal holidays, the princes get drunk with wine,
    carousing with those who mock them.

    В день праздника нашего царя
    вожди напиваются вином до бесчувствия,
    а царь протягивает свою руку насмешникам.

    Their hearts are like an oven
    blazing with intrigue.
    Their plot smoldersb through the night,
    and in the morning it breaks out like a raging fire.

    а утром она горит, как пылающий огонь.

    Burning like an oven,
    they consume their leaders.
    They kill their kings one after another,
    and no one cries to me for help.

    Все они раскалены, как печь,
    истребляют своих же правителей.30
    Все их цари низвергаются,
    и никто из них не взывает ко Мне.

    “The people of Israel mingle with godless foreigners,
    making themselves as worthless as a half-baked cake!

    Ефрем смешался с нечестивыми народами,
    уподобился хлебу,
    недопеченному с одной стороны
    и подгоревшему с другой.

    Worshiping foreign gods has sapped their strength,
    but they don’t even know it.
    Their hair is gray,
    but they don’t realize they’re old and weak.

    Чужестранцы поедают его силы,
    а он и не осознает.
    Его волос стал седым,
    а он и не замечает.

    Their arrogance testifies against them,
    yet they don’t return to the LORD their God
    or even try to find him.

    Гордость Израиля свидетельствует против него,
    но, при всем этом,
    он не возвращается к Господу, своему Богу,
    и не ищет Его.

    “The people of Israel have become like silly, witless doves,
    first calling to Egypt, then flying to Assyria for help.

    Ефрем стал как голубь,
    глупый и ничего не смыслящий.
    То он взывает к Египту,
    то идет в Ассирию.

    But as they fly about,
    I will throw my net over them
    and bring them down like a bird from the sky.
    I will punish them for all the evil they do.c

    Когда они пойдут, Я накину на них Свою сеть;
    Я низвергну их, как птиц небесных.
    Я накажу их,
    как им и было сказано в собрании.

    “What sorrow awaits those who have deserted me!
    Let them die, for they have rebelled against me.
    I wanted to redeem them,
    but they have told lies about me.

    Горе им,
    потому что они удалились от Меня!
    Гибель им,
    потому что они восстали против Меня!
    Я желаю искупить их,
    а они лгут обо Мне.

    They do not cry out to me with sincere hearts.
    Instead, they sit on their couches and wail.
    They cut themselves,d begging foreign gods for grain and new wine,
    and they turn away from me.

    Они не взывают ко Мне от всего сердца,
    а причитают на своих ложах.
    Они собираются вместе31 из-за хлеба и молодого вина,
    но отворачиваются от Меня.

    I trained them and made them strong,
    yet now they plot evil against me.

    И хотя Я вразумлял и укреплял их,
    они все равно замышляют зло против Меня.

    They look everywhere except to the Most High.
    They are as useless as a crooked bow.
    Their leaders will be killed by their enemies
    because of their insolence toward me.
    Then the people of Egypt
    will laugh at them.

    Они обращаются, но не к Всевышнему.
    Они — как неверный лук.
    Вожди их падут от меча
    из-за своих дерзких слов.
    За это над ними будут смеяться
    в земле Египта.
