  • The Appointed Festivals

    The LORD said to Moses,
  • Feasts of the Lord

    The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
  • “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. These are the LORD’s appointed festivals, which you are to proclaim as official days for holy assembly.
  • “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, These are the appointed feasts of the Lord that you shall proclaim as holy convocations; they are my appointed feasts.
  • “You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of complete rest, an official day for holy assembly. It is the LORD’s Sabbath day, and it must be observed wherever you live.
  • The Sabbath

    “Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work. It is a Sabbath to the Lord in all your dwelling places.
  • “In addition to the Sabbath, these are the LORD’s appointed festivals, the official days for holy assembly that are to be celebrated at their proper times each year.
  • The Passover

    “These are the appointed feasts of the Lord, the holy convocations, which you shall proclaim at the time appointed for them.

  • Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread

    “The LORD’s Passover begins at sundown on the fourteenth day of the first month.a
  • In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight,a is the Lord’s Passover.
  • On the next day, the fifteenth day of the month, you must begin celebrating the Festival of Unleavened Bread. This festival to the LORD continues for seven days, and during that time the bread you eat must be made without yeast.
  • And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to the Lord; for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread.
  • On the first day of the festival, all the people must stop their ordinary work and observe an official day for holy assembly.
  • On the first day you shall have a holy convocation; you shall not do any ordinary work.
  • For seven days you must present special gifts to the LORD. On the seventh day the people must again stop all their ordinary work to observe an official day for holy assembly.”
  • But you shall present a food offering to the Lord for seven days. On the seventh day is a holy convocation; you shall not do any ordinary work.”

  • Celebration of First Harvest

    Then the LORD said to Moses,
  • The Feast of Firstfruits

    And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
  • “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. When you enter the land I am giving you and you harvest its first crops, bring the priest a bundle of grain from the first cutting of your grain harvest.
  • “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When you come into the land that I give you and reap its harvest, you shall bring the sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the priest,
  • On the day after the Sabbath, the priest will lift it up before the LORD so it may be accepted on your behalf.
  • and he shall wave the sheaf before the Lord, so that you may be accepted. On the day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it.
  • On that same day you must sacrifice a one-year-old male lamb with no defects as a burnt offering to the LORD.
  • And on the day when you wave the sheaf, you shall offer a male lamb a year old without blemish as a burnt offering to the Lord.
  • With it you must present a grain offering consisting of four quartsb of choice flour moistened with olive oil. It will be a special gift, a pleasing aroma to the LORD. You must also offer one quartc of wine as a liquid offering.
  • And the grain offering with it shall be two tenths of an ephahb of fine flour mixed with oil, a food offering to the Lord with a pleasing aroma, and the drink offering with it shall be of wine, a fourth of a hin.c
  • Do not eat any bread or roasted grain or fresh kernels on that day until you bring this offering to your God. This is a permanent law for you, and it must be observed from generation to generation wherever you live.
  • And you shall eat neither bread nor grain parched or fresh until this same day, until you have brought the offering of your God: it is a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

  • The Festival of Harvest

    “From the day after the Sabbath — the day you bring the bundle of grain to be lifted up as a special offering — count off seven full weeks.
  • The Feast of Weeks

    “You shall count seven full weeks from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering.
  • Keep counting until the day after the seventh Sabbath, fifty days later. Then present an offering of new grain to the LORD.
  • You shall count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath. Then you shall present a grain offering of new grain to the Lord.
  • From wherever you live, bring two loaves of bread to be lifted up before the LORD as a special offering. Make these loaves from four quarts of choice flour, and bake them with yeast. They will be an offering to the LORD from the first of your crops.
  • You shall bring from your dwelling places two loaves of bread to be waved, made of two tenths of an ephah. They shall be of fine flour, and they shall be baked with leaven, as firstfruits to the Lord.
  • Along with the bread, present seven one-year-old male lambs with no defects, one young bull, and two rams as burnt offerings to the LORD. These burnt offerings, together with the grain offerings and liquid offerings, will be a special gift, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
  • And you shall present with the bread seven lambs a year old without blemish, and one bull from the herd and two rams. They shall be a burnt offering to the Lord, with their grain offering and their drink offerings, a food offering with a pleasing aroma to the Lord.
  • Then you must offer one male goat as a sin offering and two one-year-old male lambs as a peace offering.
  • And you shall offer one male goat for a sin offering, and two male lambs a year old as a sacrifice of peace offerings.
  • “The priest will lift up the two lambs as a special offering to the LORD, together with the loaves representing the first of your crops. These offerings, which are holy to the LORD, belong to the priests.
  • And the priest shall wave them with the bread of the firstfruits as a wave offering before the Lord, with the two lambs. They shall be holy to the Lord for the priest.
  • That same day will be proclaimed an official day for holy assembly, a day on which you do no ordinary work. This is a permanent law for you, and it must be observed from generation to generation wherever you live.d
  • And you shall make a proclamation on the same day. You shall hold a holy convocation. You shall not do any ordinary work. It is a statute forever in all your dwelling places throughout your generations.
  • “When you harvest the crops of your land, do not harvest the grain along the edges of your fields, and do not pick up what the harvesters drop. Leave it for the poor and the foreigners living among you. I am the LORD your God.”
  • “And when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field right up to its edge, nor shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest. You shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner: I am the Lord your God.”

  • The Festival of Trumpets

    The LORD said to Moses,
  • The Feast of Trumpets

    And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
  • “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. On the first day of the appointed month in early autumn,e you are to observe a day of complete rest. It will be an official day for holy assembly, a day commemorated with loud blasts of a trumpet.
  • “Speak to the people of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall observe a day of solemn rest, a memorial proclaimed with blast of trumpets, a holy convocation.
  • You must do no ordinary work on that day. Instead, you are to present special gifts to the LORD.”
  • You shall not do any ordinary work, and you shall present a food offering to the Lord.”

  • The Day of Atonement

    Then the LORD said to Moses,
  • The Day of Atonement

    And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
  • “Be careful to celebrate the Day of Atonement on the tenth day of that same month — nine days after the Festival of Trumpets.f You must observe it as an official day for holy assembly, a day to deny yourselvesg and present special gifts to the LORD.
  • “Now on the tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. It shall be for you a time of holy convocation, and you shall afflict yourselvesd and present a food offering to the Lord.
  • Do no work during that entire day because it is the Day of Atonement, when offerings of purification are made for you, making you right withh the LORD your God.
  • And you shall not do any work on that very day, for it is a Day of Atonement, to make atonement for you before the Lord your God.
  • All who do not deny themselves that day will be cut off from God’s people.
  • For whoever is not afflictede on that very day shall be cut off from his people.
  • And I will destroy anyone among you who does any work on that day.
  • And whoever does any work on that very day, that person I will destroy from among his people.
  • You must not do any work at all! This is a permanent law for you, and it must be observed from generation to generation wherever you live.
  • You shall not do any work. It is a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwelling places.
  • This will be a Sabbath day of complete rest for you, and on that day you must deny yourselves. This day of rest will begin at sundown on the ninth day of the month and extend until sundown on the tenth day.”
  • It shall be to you a Sabbath of solemn rest, and you shall afflict yourselves. On the ninth day of the month beginning at evening, from evening to evening shall you keep your Sabbath.”

  • The Festival of Shelters

    And the LORD said to Moses,
  • The Feast of Booths

    And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
  • “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. Begin celebrating the Festival of Sheltersi on the fifteenth day of the appointed month — five days after the Day of Atonement.j This festival to the LORD will last for seven days.
  • “Speak to the people of Israel, saying, On the fifteenth day of this seventh month and for seven days is the Feast of Boothsf to the Lord.
  • On the first day of the festival you must proclaim an official day for holy assembly, when you do no ordinary work.
  • On the first day shall be a holy convocation; you shall not do any ordinary work.
  • For seven days you must present special gifts to the LORD. The eighth day is another holy day on which you present your special gifts to the LORD. This will be a solemn occasion, and no ordinary work may be done that day.
  • For seven days you shall present food offerings to the Lord. On the eighth day you shall hold a holy convocation and present a food offering to the Lord. It is a solemn assembly; you shall not do any ordinary work.
  • (“These are the LORD’s appointed festivals. Celebrate them each year as official days for holy assembly by presenting special gifts to the LORD — burnt offerings, grain offerings, sacrifices, and liquid offerings — each on its proper day.
  • “These are the appointed feasts of the Lord, which you shall proclaim as times of holy convocation, for presenting to the Lord food offerings, burnt offerings and grain offerings, sacrifices and drink offerings, each on its proper day,
  • These festivals must be observed in addition to the LORD’s regular Sabbath days, and the offerings are in addition to your personal gifts, the offerings you give to fulfill your vows, and the voluntary offerings you present to the LORD.)
  • besides the Lord’s Sabbaths and besides your gifts and besides all your vow offerings and besides all your freewill offerings, which you give to the Lord.
  • “Remember that this seven-day festival to the LORD — the Festival of Shelters — begins on the fifteenth day of the appointed month,k after you have harvested all the produce of the land. The first day and the eighth day of the festival will be days of complete rest.
  • “On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the produce of the land, you shall celebrate the feast of the Lord seven days. On the first day shall be a solemn rest, and on the eighth day shall be a solemn rest.
  • On the first day gather branches from magnificent treesl — palm fronds, boughs from leafy trees, and willows that grow by the streams. Then celebrate with joy before the LORD your God for seven days.
  • And you shall take on the first day the fruit of splendid trees, branches of palm trees and boughs of leafy trees and willows of the brook, and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God seven days.
  • You must observe this festival to the LORD for seven days every year. This is a permanent law for you, and it must be observed in the appointed monthm from generation to generation.
  • You shall celebrate it as a feast to the Lord for seven days in the year. It is a statute forever throughout your generations; you shall celebrate it in the seventh month.
  • For seven days you must live outside in little shelters. All native-born Israelites must live in shelters.
  • You shall dwell in booths for seven days. All native Israelites shall dwell in booths,
  • This will remind each new generation of Israelites that I made their ancestors live in shelters when I rescued them from the land of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.”
  • that your generations may know that I made the people of Israel dwell in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.”
  • So Moses gave the Israelites these instructions regarding the annual festivals of the LORD.
  • Thus Moses declared to the people of Israel the appointed feasts of the Lord.
