  • The Birth of Jesus the Messiah

This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit.
  • The Birth of Jesus

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was thus: His mother, Mary, that is, having been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child of [the] Holy Spirit.
  • Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagementh quietly.
  • But Joseph, her husband, being [a] righteous [man], and unwilling to expose her publicly, purposed to have put her away secretly;
  • As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit.
  • but while he pondered on these things, behold, an angel of [the] Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, fear not to take to [thee] Mary, thy wife, for that which is begotten in her is of [the] Holy Spirit.
  • And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus,i for he will save his people from their sins.”
  • And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for *he* shall save his people from their sins.
  • All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet:
  • Now all this came to pass that that might be fulfilled which was spoken by [the] Lord, through the prophet, saying,
  • “Look! The virgin will conceive a child!
She will give birth to a son,
and they will call him Immanuel,j
which means ‘God is with us.’”
  • Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which is, being interpreted, 'God with us.'
  • When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded and took Mary as his wife.
  • But Joseph, having awoke up from his sleep, did as the angel of [the] Lord had enjoined him, and took to [him] his wife,
  • But he did not have sexual relations with her until her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus.
  • and knew her not until she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus.
