Darby Bible Translation

  • Teachings about Forgiveness and Faith

One day Jesus said to his disciples, “There will always be temptations to sin, but what sorrow awaits the person who does the tempting!
  • Temptations and Trespasses

And he said to his disciples, It cannot be but that offences come, but woe [to him] by whom they come!
  • It would be better to be thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around your neck than to cause one of these little ones to fall into sin.
  • It would be [more] profitable for him if a millstone were hanged about his neck and he cast into the sea, than that he should be a snare to one of these little ones.
  • So watch yourselves!
“If another believera sins, rebuke that person; then if there is repentance, forgive.
  • Take heed to yourselves: if thy brother should sin, rebuke him; and if he should repent, forgive him.
  • Even if that person wrongs you seven times a day and each time turns again and asks forgiveness, you must forgive.”
  • And if he should sin against thee seven times in the day, and seven times should return to thee, saying, I repent, thou shalt forgive him.
  • The apostles said to the Lord, “Show us how to increase our faith.”
  • The Power of Faith

And the apostles said to the Lord, Give more faith to us.
  • The Lord answered, “If you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘May you be uprooted and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you!
  • But the Lord said, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard [seed], ye had said to this sycamine tree, Be thou rooted up, and be thou planted in the sea, and it would have obeyed you.
  • “When a servant comes in from plowing or taking care of sheep, does his master say, ‘Come in and eat with me’?
  • But which of you [is there] who, having a bondman ploughing or shepherding, when he comes in out of the field, will say, Come and lie down immediately to table?
  • No, he says, ‘Prepare my meal, put on your apron, and serve me while I eat. Then you can eat later.’
  • But will he not say to him, Prepare what I shall sup on, and gird thyself and serve me that I may eat and drink; and after that *thou* shalt eat and drink?
  • And does the master thank the servant for doing what he was told to do? Of course not.
  • Is he thankful to the bondman because he has done what was ordered? I judge not.
  • In the same way, when you obey me you should say, ‘We are unworthy servants who have simply done our duty.’”
  • Thus *ye* also, when ye shall have done all things that have been ordered you, say, We are unprofitable bondmen; we have done what it was our duty to do.

  • Ten Healed of Leprosy

As Jesus continued on toward Jerusalem, he reached the border between Galilee and Samaria.
  • Jesus Heals Ten Lepers

And it came to pass as he was going up to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.
  • As he entered a village there, ten men with leprosy stood at a distance,
  • And as he entered into a certain village ten leprous men met him, who stood afar off.
  • crying out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
  • And they lifted up [their] voice saying, Jesus, Master, have compassion on us.
  • He looked at them and said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.”b And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy.
  • And seeing [them] he said to them, Go, shew yourselves to the priests. And it came to pass as they were going they were cleansed.
  • One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting, “Praise God!”
  • And one of them, seeing that he was cured, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice,
  • He fell to the ground at Jesus’ feet, thanking him for what he had done. This man was a Samaritan.
  • and fell on [his] face at his feet giving him thanks: and *he* was a Samaritan.
  • Jesus asked, “Didn’t I heal ten men? Where are the other nine?
  • And Jesus answering said, Were not the ten cleansed? but the nine, where [are they]?
  • Has no one returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?”
  • There have not been found to return and give glory to God save this stranger.
  • And Jesus said to the man, “Stand up and go. Your faith has healed you.c
  • And he said to him, Rise up and go thy way: thy faith has made thee well.

  • The Coming of the Kingdom

One day the Pharisees asked Jesus, “When will the Kingdom of God come?”
Jesus replied, “The Kingdom of God can’t be detected by visible signs.d
  • The Coming of the Kingdom

    And having been asked by the Pharisees, When is the kingdom of God coming? he answered them and said, The kingdom of God does not come with observation;
  • You won’t be able to say, ‘Here it is!’ or ‘It’s over there!’ For the Kingdom of God is already among you.e
  • nor shall they say, Lo here, or, Lo there; for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.
  • Then he said to his disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see the day when the Son of Man returns,f but you won’t see it.
  • And he said to the disciples, Days are coming, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and shall not see [it].
  • People will tell you, ‘Look, there is the Son of Man,’ or ‘Here he is,’ but don’t go out and follow them.
  • And they will say to you, Lo here, or Lo there; go not, nor follow [them].
  • For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other, so it will be on the dayg when the Son of Man comes.
  • For as the lightning shines which lightens from [one end] under heaven to [the other end] under heaven, thus shall the Son of man be in his day.
  • But first the Son of Man must suffer terriblyh and be rejected by this generation.
  • But first he must suffer many things and be rejected of this generation.
  • “When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day.
  • And as it took place in the days of Noe, thus also shall it be in the days of the Son of man:
  • In those days, the people enjoyed banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat and the flood came and destroyed them all.
  • they ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed all [of them];
  • “And the world will be as it was in the days of Lot. People went about their daily business — eating and drinking, buying and selling, farming and building —
  • and in like manner as took place in the days of Lot: they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
  • until the morning Lot left Sodom. Then fire and burning sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.
  • but on the day that Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and sulphur from heaven, and destroyed all [of them]:
  • Yes, it will be ‘business as usual’ right up to the day when the Son of Man is revealed.
  • after this [manner] shall it be in the day that the Son of man is revealed.
  • On that day a person out on the deck of a roof must not go down into the house to pack. A person out in the field must not return home.
  • In that day, he who shall be on the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not go down to take it away; and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.
  • Remember what happened to Lot’s wife!
  • Remember the wife of Lot.
  • If you cling to your life, you will lose it, and if you let your life go, you will save it.
  • Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it, and whosoever shall lose it shall preserve it.
  • That night two people will be asleep in one bed; one will be taken, the other left.
  • I say to you, In that night there shall be two [men] upon one bed; one shall be seized and the other shall be let go.
  • Two women will be grinding flour together at the mill; one will be taken, the other left.i
  • Two [women] shall be grinding together; the one shall be seized and the other shall be let go.
  • “Where will this happen, Lord?”j the disciples asked.
Jesus replied, “Just as the gathering of vultures shows there is a carcass nearby, so these signs indicate that the end is near.”k
  • And answering they say to him, Where, Lord? And he said to them, Where the body [is], there the eagles will be gathered together.
