New Living Translation

Darby Bible Translation

  • Jesus, the Way to the Father

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.
  • Jesus Comforts the Disciples

Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe on God, believe also on me.
  • There is more than enough room in my Father’s home.a If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?b
  • In my Father's house there are many abodes; were it not so, I had told you: for I go to prepare you a place;
  • When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.
  • and if I go and shall prepare you a place, I am coming again and shall receive you to myself, that where I am ye also may be.
  • And you know the way to where I am going.”
  • And ye know where I go, and ye know the way.
  • “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
  • The Way, the Truth, and the Life

Thomas says to him, Lord, we know not where thou goest, and how can we know the way?
  • Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
  • Jesus says to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father unless by me.
  • If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is.c From now on, you do know him and have seen him!”
  • If ye had known me, ye would have known also my Father, and henceforth ye know him and have seen him.
  • Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.”
  • Philip says to him, Lord, shew us the Father and it suffices us.
  • Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you?
  • Jesus says to him, Am I so long a time with you, and thou hast not known me, Philip? He that has seen me has seen the Father; and how sayest thou, Shew us the Father?
  • Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me.
  • Believest thou not that I [am] in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words which I speak to you I do not speak from myself; but the Father who abides in me, he does the works.
  • Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do.
  • Believe *me* that I [am] in the Father and the Father in me; but if not, believe me for the works' sake themselves.
  • “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.
  • Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believes on me, the works which I do shall he do also, and he shall do greater than these, because I go to the Father.
  • You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.
  • And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, this will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
  • Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!
  • If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.

  • Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

“If you love me, obeyd my commandments.
  • Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

If ye love me, keep my commandments.
  • And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate,e who will never leave you.
  • And I will beg the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever,
  • He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.f
  • the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see him nor know him; but ye know him, for he abides with you, and shall be in you.
  • No, I will not abandon you as orphans — I will come to you.
  • I will not leave you orphans, I am coming to you.
  • Soon the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Since I live, you also will live.
  • Yet a little and the world sees me no longer; but ye see me; because I live ye also shall live.
  • When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.
  • In that day ye shall know that I [am] in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
  • Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.”
  • He that has my commandments and keeps them, he it is that loves me; but he that loves me shall be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will manifest myself to him.
  • Judas (not Judas Iscariot, but the other disciple with that name) said to him, “Lord, why are you going to reveal yourself only to us and not to the world at large?”
  • Judas, not the Iscariote, says to him, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself to us and not to the world?
  • Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.
  • Jesus answered and said to him, If any one love me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our abode with him.
  • Anyone who doesn’t love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me.
  • He that loves me not does not keep my words; and the word which ye hear is not mine, but [that] of the Father who has sent me.
  • I am telling you these things now while I am still with you.
  • These things I have said to you, abiding with you;
  • But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative — that is, the Holy Spirit — he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
  • but the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, *he* shall teach you all things, and will bring to your remembrance all the things which I have said to you.
  • “I am leaving you with a gift — peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
  • Peace I Leave with You

I leave peace with you; I give *my* peace to you: not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it fear.
  • Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really loved me, you would be happy that I am going to the Father, who is greater than I am.
  • Ye have heard that I have said unto you, I go away and I am coming to you. If ye loved me ye would rejoice that I go to the Father, for [my] Father is greater than I.
  • I have told you these things before they happen so that when they do happen, you will believe.
  • And now I have told you before it comes to pass, that when it shall have come to pass ye may believe.
  • “I don’t have much more time to talk to you, because the ruler of this world approaches. He has no power over me,
  • I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world comes, and in me he has nothing;
  • but I will do what the Father requires of me, so that the world will know that I love the Father. Come, let’s be going.
  • but that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father has commanded me, thus I do. Rise up, let us go hence.
