New Living Translation

Darby Bible Translation

  • The Prayer of Jesus

    After saying all these things, Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you.
  • Prayer for the Son

    These things Jesus spoke, and lifted up his eyes to heaven and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son may glorify thee;
  • For you have given him authority over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him.
  • as thou hast given him authority over all flesh, that [as to] all that thou hast given to him, he should give them life eternal.
  • And this is the way to have eternal life — to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.
  • And this is the eternal life, that they should know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.
  • I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.
  • I have glorified *thee* on the earth, I have completed the work which thou gavest me that I should do it;
  • Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began.
  • and now glorify *me*, *thou* Father, along with thyself, with the glory which I had along with thee before the world was.
  • “I have revealed youa to the ones you gave me from this world. They were always yours. You gave them to me, and they have kept your word.
  • Prayer for the Disciples

    I have manifested thy name to the men whom thou gavest me out of the world. They were thine, and thou gavest them me, and they have kept thy word.
  • Now they know that everything I have is a gift from you,
  • Now they have known that all things that thou hast given me are of thee;
  • for I have passed on to them the message you gave me. They accepted it and know that I came from you, and they believe you sent me.
  • for the words which thou hast given me I have given them, and they have received [them], and have known truly that I came out from thee, and have believed that thou sentest me.
  • “My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given me, because they belong to you.
  • I demand concerning them; I do not demand concerning the world, but concerning those whom thou hast given me, for they are thine,
  • All who are mine belong to you, and you have given them to me, so they bring me glory.
  • (and all that is mine is thine, and [all] that is thine mine,) and I am glorified in them.
  • Now I am departing from the world; they are staying in this world, but I am coming to you. Holy Father, you have given me your name;b now protect them by the power of your name so that they will be united just as we are.
  • And I am no longer in the world, and these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep them in thy name which thou hast given me, that they may be one as we.
  • During my time here, I protected them by the power of the name you gave me.c I guarded them so that not one was lost, except the one headed for destruction, as the Scriptures foretold.
  • When I was with them I kept them in thy name; those thou hast given me I have guarded, and not one of them has perished, but the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled.
  • “Now I am coming to you. I told them many things while I was with them in this world so they would be filled with my joy.
  • And now I come to thee. And these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in them.
  • I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world.
  • I have given them thy word, and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, as I am not of the world.
  • I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one.
  • I do not demand that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them out of evil.
  • They do not belong to this world any more than I do.
  • They are not of the world, as I am not of the world.
  • Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.
  • Sanctify them by the truth: thy word is truth.
  • Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world.
  • As thou hast sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world;
  • And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth.
  • and I sanctify myself for them, that they also may be sanctified by truth.
  • “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message.
  • Prayer for all Believers

    And I do not demand for these only, but also for those who believe on me through their word;
  • I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one — as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.
  • that they may be all one, as thou, Father, [art] in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us, that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
  • “I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one.
  • And the glory which thou hast given me I have given them, that they may be one, as we are one;
  • I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.
  • I in them and thou in me, that they may be perfected into one [and] that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and [that] thou hast loved them as thou hast loved me.
  • Father, I want these whom you have given me to be with me where I am. Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me even before the world began!
  • Father, [as to] those whom thou hast given me, I desire that where I am they also may be with me, that they may behold my glory which thou hast given me, for thou lovedst me before [the] foundation of [the] world.
  • “O righteous Father, the world doesn’t know you, but I do; and these disciples know you sent me.
  • Righteous Father, -- and the world has not known thee, but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.
  • I have revealed you to them, and I will continue to do so. Then your love for me will be in them, and I will be in them.”
  • And I have made known to them thy name, and will make [it] known; that the love with which thou hast loved me may be in them and I in them.
