The Altar on Mount Ebal

Then Moses and the leaders of Israel gave this charge to the people: “Obey all these commands that I am giving you today.

І заповідали Мойсей і громадські мужі Ізраїля людові словами: Додержуйте заповідї, що я заповідаю вам сьогоднї!

2

When you cross the Jordan River and enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, set up some large stones and coat them with plaster.

2

Того дня, як перейдете через Йордань у землю, що її Господь, Бог твій, тобі дає, мусиш собі поставити величезні каменї, та й побілити їх вапном;

3

Write this whole body of instruction on them when you cross the river to enter the land the LORD your God is giving you — a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, promised you.

І як прийдеш там, напишеш на їх усї слова закону сього, щоб тобі можна було ввійти в землю, що надїляє тобі її Господь, Бог твій, в землю текучу молоком і медом, як обіцяв тобі Господь, Бог батьків твоїх.

4

When you cross the Jordan, set up these stones at Mount Ebal and coat them with plaster, as I am commanding you today.

Оце ж, як перейдете Йордань, сї каменї, що про них сьогоднї заповідаю вам, ви поставте на горі Єбаль; і побілиш їх вапном.

“Then build an altar there to the LORD your God, using natural, uncut stones. You must not shape the stones with an iron tool.

І поставиш там жертівника Господеві, Богу твому, камяного жертівника; не замахнеш над ним зелїзом:

6

Build the altar of uncut stones, and use it to offer burnt offerings to the LORD your God.

Із цїлого, нетесаного каміння поставиш жертівника Господеві, Богу твому.

7

Also sacrifice peace offerings on it, and celebrate by feasting there before the LORD your God.

7

І вознесеш на йому всепаленнє Господеві, Богу твому.

8

You must clearly write all these instructions on the stones coated with plaster.”

8

І заколеш мирні жертви та й їсти меш там, і веселити мешся перед Господом, Богом твоїм. І напишеш на каменях всї слова закону сього, виразно виріжеш їх.

9

Then Moses and the Levitical priests addressed all Israel as follows: “O Israel, be quiet and listen! Today you have become the people of the LORD your God.

І промовили Мойсей і сьвященники Левити до всього Ізраїля словами: Утихомирись і слухай Ізраїлю! Дня сього став єси народом Господа, Бога твого.

10

So you must obey the LORD your God by keeping all these commands and decrees that I am giving you today.”

10

Слухай же голосу Господа, Бога твого, і сповняй заповідї його і встанови його, що їх сьогоднї заповідаю тобі.

Curses from Mount Ebal

That same day Moses also gave this charge to the people:

І заповідав Мойсей того дня людові такими словами:

“When you cross the Jordan River, the tribes of Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin must stand on Mount Gerizim to proclaim a blessing over the people.

Як перейдете Йордань, стануть сї на Геризим горі, щоб людей благословити: Симеон і Левій і Юда і Іссахар і Йосиф і Бенямин;

13

And the tribes of Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali must stand on Mount Ebal to proclaim a curse.

А сї стануть на Ебаль горі, щоб проклинати: Рубен, Гад і Ассер і Зебулон, Дан і Нафталїй.

14

“Then the Levites will shout to all the people of Israel:

І зачнуть Левити промовляти і казати муть грімким голосом до всїх Ізрайлитян:

15

‘Cursed is anyone who carves or casts an idol and secretly sets it up. These idols, the work of craftsmen, are detestable to the LORD.’
And all the people will reply, ‘Amen.’

15

Проклят чоловік такий, що робить витїсувані чи литі постатї, гидоту перед Господом, твориво майстерської руки, і ставляє потай! І ввесь нарід нехай скаже: Амінь!

16

‘Cursed is anyone who dishonors father or mother.’
And all the people will reply, ‘Amen.’

Проклят чоловік такий, що безчестить батька свого і матїр свою! І ввесь нарід скаже: Амінь!

17

‘Cursed is anyone who steals property from a neighbor by moving a boundary marker.’
And all the people will reply, ‘Amen.’

Проклят, хто пересовує межові знаки ближнього свого! І ввесь нарід скаже: Амінь!

18

‘Cursed is anyone who leads a blind person astray on the road.’
And all the people will reply, ‘Amen.’

Проклят, хто зведе сьлїпого з дороги! І ввесь нарід скаже: Амінь.

19

‘Cursed is anyone who denies justice to foreigners, orphans, or widows.’
And all the people will reply, ‘Amen.’

Проклят, хто перекручує суд приходневі, сиротї і вдові! І ввесь нарід скаже: Амінь!

20

‘Cursed is anyone who has sexual intercourse with one of his father’s wives, for he has violated his father.’
And all the people will reply, ‘Amen.’

Проклят, хто зляжеться з жінкою батька свого, бо відхилив він батькове одїяло! І ввесь нарід скаже: Амінь!

21

‘Cursed is anyone who has sexual intercourse with an animal.’
And all the people will reply, ‘Amen.’

Проклят, хто зляжеться з якою скотиною! І ввесь нарід скаже: Амінь!

22

‘Cursed is anyone who has sexual intercourse with his sister, whether she is the daughter of his father or his mother.’
And all the people will reply, ‘Amen.’

Проклят, хто зляжеться з сестрою, з дочкою батька свого, або з дочкою матері своєї! І ввесь нарід скаже: Амінь!

23

‘Cursed is anyone who has sexual intercourse with his mother-in-law.’
And all the people will reply, ‘Amen.’

Проклят, хто зляжеться з тещею своєю! І ввесь нарід скаже: Амінь!

24

‘Cursed is anyone who attacks a neighbor in secret.’
And all the people will reply, ‘Amen.’

Проклят, хто тайкома вбє свого ближнього! І ввесь нарід скаже: Амінь!

25

‘Cursed is anyone who accepts payment to kill an innocent person.’
And all the people will reply, ‘Amen.’

Проклят, хто бере підкуп, щоб вбити кого, щоб безвинну кров пролити! І ввесь нарід скаже: Амінь!

‘Cursed is anyone who does not affirm and obey the terms of these instructions.’
And all the people will reply, ‘Amen.’
