Dear brothers and sisters,a the longing of my heart and my prayer to God is for the people of Israel to be saved.

Браття, бажа́ння мого серця й молитва до Бога за Ізраїля на спасі́ння.

I know what enthusiasm they have for God, but it is misdirected zeal.

Бо я свідчу їм, що вони мають ре́вність про Бога, але не за розумом.

For they don’t understand God’s way of making people right with himself. Refusing to accept God’s way, they cling to their own way of getting right with God by trying to keep the law.

Вони бо, не розуміючи праведности Божої, і силкуючись поставити власну праведність, не покорились праведності Божій.

4

For Christ has already accomplished the purpose for which the law was given.b As a result, all who believe in him are made right with God.

Бо кінець Зако́ну — Христос на праведність кожному, хто вірує.

Salvation Is for Everyone

For Moses writes that the law’s way of making a person right with God requires obedience to all of its commands.c

Мойсей бо пише про праведність, що від Закону, що „люди́на, яка його виконує, буде ним жити“.

But faith’s way of getting right with God says, “Don’t say in your heart, ‘Who will go up to heaven?’ (to bring Christ down to earth).

А про праведність, що від віри, говорить так: „Не кажи в своїм серці: Хто вийде на небо?“ цебто зве́сти додолу Христа,

And don’t say, ‘Who will go down to the place of the dead?’ (to bring Christ back to life again).”

або: „Хто зі́йде в безодню?“ цебто ви́вести з мертвих Христа.

In fact, it says,
“The message is very close at hand;
it is on your lips and in your heart.”d
And that message is the very message about faith that we preach:

Але що каже ще? „Бли́зько тебе слово, — в устах твоїх і в серці твоїм“, цебто слово віри, що його проповідуємо.

If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Бо коли ти уста́ми своїми визнаватимеш Ісуса за Господа, і будеш вірувати в своїм серці, що Бог воскресив Його з мертвих, то спасешся,

For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.

бо серцем віруємо для праведности, а устами іспові́дуємо для спасі́ння.

As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.”e

Каже бо Писа́ння: „Кожен, хто вірує в Нього, не буде засоро́млений“.

Jew and Gentilef are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him.

Бо нема різниці поміж юдеєм та ге́лленом, бо той же Госпо́дь є Господом усіх, багатий для всіх, хто кличе Його.

For “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.”g

Бо „кожен, хто покличе Господнє Ім'я, буде спасе́ний“.

But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?

Але як покличуть Того, в Кого не ввірували? А як увірують у Того, що про Нього не чули? А як почують без проповідника?

15

And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”h

І як будуть проповідувати, коли не будуть по́слані? Як написано: „Які гарні ноги благовіссників миру, благовісників добра́“.

But not everyone welcomes the Good News, for Isaiah the prophet said, “LORD, who has believed our message?”i

Але не всі послухались Єва́нгелії. Бо Ісая каже: „Господи, хто повірив тому, що почув був від нас?“

17

So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.

Тож віра від слу́хання, а слу́хання через Слово Христо́ве.

But I ask, have the people of Israel actually heard the message? Yes, they have:
“The message has gone throughout the earth,
and the words to all the world.”j

Та кажу́: Чи не чули вони? Отож: „По всій землі їхній голос пішов, і їхні слова́ в кінці світу!“

19

But I ask, did the people of Israel really understand? Yes, they did, for even in the time of Moses, God said,
“I will rouse your jealousy through people who are not even a nation.
I will provoke your anger through the foolish Gentiles.”k

Але кажу́: Чи Ізраїль не знав? Перший Мойсей говорить: „Я викличу заздрість у вас ненаро́дом, — роздражню́ вас нерозумним народом“.

20

And later Isaiah spoke boldly for God, saying,
“I was found by people who were not looking for me.
I showed myself to those who were not asking for me.”l

А Ісая сміли́во говорить: „Знайшли Мене ті, хто Мене не шукав, відкрився Я тим, хто не питався про Мене!“

21

But regarding Israel, God said,
“All day long I opened my arms to them,
but they were disobedient and rebellious.”m

А про Ізраїля каже: „Я руки Свої цілий день простягав до людей неслухня́них і суперечних!“
