New Living Translation

New King James Version

  • Living the New Life

Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand.
  • Not Carnality but Christ

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.
  • Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.
  • Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
  • For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.
  • For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
  • And when Christ, who is youra life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.
  • When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
  • So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
  • Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
  • Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming.b
  • Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience,
  • You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world.
  • in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.
  • But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language.
  • But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.
  • Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds.
  • Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,
  • Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.
  • and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,
  • In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile,c circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized,d slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.
  • where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.
  • Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
  • Character of the New Man

    Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;
  • Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.
  • bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
  • Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.
  • But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
  • And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.
  • And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.
  • Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.
  • Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
  • And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.
  • And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

  • Instructions for Christian Households

Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord.
  • The Christian Home

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
  • Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly.
  • Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them.
  • Children, always obey your parents, for this pleases the Lord.
  • Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.
  • Fathers, do not aggravate your children, or they will become discouraged.
  • Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.
  • Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything you do. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Serve them sincerely because of your reverent fear of the Lord.
  • Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God.
  • Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
  • And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,
  • Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.e
  • knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for[a] you serve the Lord Christ.
  • But if you do what is wrong, you will be paid back for the wrong you have done. For God has no favorites.
  • But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality.
