Live to Please God

Finally, dear brothers and sisters,a we urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God, as we have taught you. You live this way already, and we encourage you to do so even more.

А втім, брати, ми просимо вас і благаємо в Господі Ісусі, щоб, як то ви від нас навчилися як слід жити на вподобу Богові, — як ви і живете, — щоб так досягали дедалі більшого поступу.

For you remember what we taught you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.

Ви бо знаєте, які накази ми дали вам від Господа Ісуса.

3

God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin.

Це ж саме воля Божа: святість ваша — щоб ви стримувались від розпусти,

Then each of you will control his own bodyb and live in holiness and honor —

4

щоб кожний з вас умів тримати своє тіло у святості й пошані,

5

not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways.

5

не в пристрасті жагучій, як погани, які не знають Бога;

6

Never harm or cheat a fellow believer in this matter by violating his wife,c for the Lord avenges all such sins, as we have solemnly warned you before.

не надуживаючи і не кривдячи в цій справі свого брата, бо Господь за те все відплачує, як ми про це вам уже казали та засвідчили.

God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives.

Бо Бог нас покликав не до нечистоти, а до святости.

Therefore, anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human teaching but is rejecting God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.

Тому, отже, хто на це не зважає, той не чоловіка зневажає, а Бога, що нам дає свого Святого Духа.

But we don’t need to write to you about the importance of loving each other,d for God himself has taught you to love one another.

А щодо братньої любови, то ви не потребуєте, щоб до вас писати: самі бо ви навчені від Бога любити один одного,

Indeed, you already show your love for all the believerse throughout Macedonia. Even so, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you to love them even more.

і це чините супроти всіх братів по всій Македонії. Та ми благаємо вас, брати, досягати в цьому дедалі більшого поступу.

11

Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before.

Пильно старайтеся жити спокійно, клопотатися кожен своїми справами та працювати власними руками, — так, як ми були наказали,

Then people who are not believers will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others.

— і щоб поводилися чесно супроти тих, що зовні, — і ні в чому не зазнавали нестачі.

The Hope of the Resurrection

And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have diedf so you will not grieve like people who have no hope.

Не хочемо, брати, залишати вас у незнанні щодо померлих, — щоб ви не сумували, як інші, що не мають надії.

14

For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died.

Бо коли ми віруємо, що Ісус умер і воскрес, тож так і тих, які поснули в Ісусі, Бог приведе з ним.

15

We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died.g

Бо це ми вам кажемо словом Господнім: Ми, що живемо, що залишимося до приходу Господа, — не випередимо тих, що поснули.

16

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have diedh will rise from their graves.

Бо сам Господь на даний знак, на голос архангела та при сурмі Божій, зійде з неба, і найперше воскреснуть ті, що вмерли в Христі.

17

Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever.

Потім же ми, що живемо, що лишимось, будемо разом з ними вхоплені на хмарах у повітря назустріч Господеві і так будемо з Господом завжди.

So encourage each other with these words.

Отже, втішайте один одного цими словами.
