New Living Translation

Darby Bible Translation

  • Instructions about Worship

    I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.
  • A Call to Prayer

    I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings be made for all men;
  • Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.
  • for kings and all that are in dignity, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all piety and gravity;
  • This is good and pleases God our Savior,
  • for this is good and acceptable before our Saviour God,
  • who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.
  • who desires that all men should be saved and come to [the] knowledge of [the] truth.
  • For,
    There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity — the man Christ Jesus.
  • For God is one, and [the] mediator of God and men one, [the] man Christ Jesus,
  • He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone.
    This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time.
  • who gave himself a ransom for all, the testimony [to be rendered] in its own times;
  • And I have been chosen as a preacher and apostle to teach the Gentiles this message about faith and truth. I’m not exaggerating — just telling the truth.
  • to which *I* have been appointed a herald and apostle, (I speak [the] truth, I do not lie,) a teacher of [the] nations in faith and truth.
  • In every place of worship, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy.
  • I will therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up pious hands, without wrath or reasoning.
  • And I want women to be modest in their appearance.a They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes.
  • Instructions to Women

    In like manner also that the women in decent deportment and dress adorn themselves with modesty and discretion, not with plaited [hair] and gold, or pearls, or costly clothing,
  • For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do.
  • but, what becomes women making profession of the fear of God, by good works.
  • Women should learn quietly and submissively.
  • Let a woman learn in quietness in all subjection;
  • I do not let women teach men or have authority over them.b Let them listen quietly.
  • but I do not suffer a woman to teach nor to exercise authority over man, but to be in quietness;
  • For God made Adam first, and afterward he made Eve.
  • for Adam was formed first, then Eve:
  • And it was not Adam who was deceived by Satan. The woman was deceived, and sin was the result.
  • and Adam was not deceived; but the woman, having been deceived, was in transgression.
  • But women will be saved through childbearing,c assuming they continue to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty.
  • But she shall be preserved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and love and holiness with discretion.
