New Living Translation

Darby Bible Translation

  • Warnings against False Teachers

    Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons.
  • Warnings against False Teachers

    But the Spirit speaks expressly, that in latter times some shall apostatise from the faith, giving their mind to deceiving spirits and teachings of demons
  • These people are hypocrites and liars, and their consciences are dead.a
  • speaking lies in hypocrisy, cauterised as to their own conscience,
  • They will say it is wrong to be married and wrong to eat certain foods. But God created those foods to be eaten with thanks by faithful people who know the truth.
  • forbidding to marry, [bidding] to abstain from meats, which God has created for receiving with thanksgiving for them who are faithful and know the truth.
  • Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks.
  • For every creature of God [is] good, and nothing [is] to be rejected, being received with thanksgiving;
  • For we know it is made acceptableb by the word of God and prayer.
  • for it is sanctified by God's word and freely addressing [him].

  • A Good Servant of Christ Jesus

    If you explain these things to the brothers and sisters,c Timothy, you will be a worthy servant of Christ Jesus, one who is nourished by the message of faith and the good teaching you have followed.
  • A Good Minister of Jesus Christ

    Laying these things before the brethren, thou wilt be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished with the words of the faith and of the good teaching which thou hast fully followed up.
  • Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas and old wives’ tales. Instead, train yourself to be godly.
  • But profane and old wives' fables avoid, but exercise thyself unto piety;
  • “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.”
  • for bodily exercise is profitable for a little, but piety is profitable for everything, having promise of life, of the present one, and of that to come.
  • This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it.
  • The word [is] faithful and worthy of all acceptation;
  • This is why we work hard and continue to struggle,d for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers.
  • for, for this we labour and suffer reproach, because we hope in a living God, who is preserver of all men, specially of those that believe.
  • Teach these things and insist that everyone learn them.
  • Enjoin and teach these things.
  • Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.
  • Let no one despise thy youth, but be a model of the believers, in word, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
  • Until I get there, focus on reading the Scriptures to the church, encouraging the believers, and teaching them.
  • Till I come, give thyself to reading, to exhortation, to teaching.
  • Do not neglect the spiritual gift you received through the prophecy spoken over you when the elders of the church laid their hands on you.
  • Be not negligent of the gift [that is] in thee, which has been given to thee through prophecy, with imposition of the hands of the elderhood.
  • Give your complete attention to these matters. Throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone will see your progress.
  • Occupy thyself with these things; be wholly in them, that thy progress may be manifest to all.
  • Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching. Stay true to what is right for the sake of your own salvation and the salvation of those who hear you.
  • Give heed to thyself and to the teaching; continue in them; for, doing this, thou shalt save both thyself and those that hear thee.
