Warnings against False Teachers

Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons.

Дух же ясно говорить, що в останні часи деякі відступлять від віри, прислухаючись до спокусливих духів та вчення бісів;

These people are hypocrites and liars, and their consciences are dead.a

2

говорячи в лицемірстві неправду, вони знищили власне сумління,

They will say it is wrong to be married and wrong to eat certain foods. But God created those foods to be eaten with thanks by faithful people who know the truth.

тож забороняють одружуватися, наказують стримуватися від їжі, яку Бог створив для тих, котрі повірили і пізнали правду, аби приймати з подякою.

Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks.

Адже всяке Боже творіння добре, і ніщо з того, що з подякою приймається, не підлягає відкиненню,

For we know it is made acceptableb by the word of God and prayer.

бо воно освячується Божим Словом і молитвою.

A Good Servant of Christ Jesus

If you explain these things to the brothers and sisters,c Timothy, you will be a worthy servant of Christ Jesus, one who is nourished by the message of faith and the good teaching you have followed.

Якщо говоритимеш це братам, то, вигодований словами віри та добрим ученням, за яким пішов, ти будеш добрим служителем Ісуса Христа.

Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas and old wives’ tales. Instead, train yourself to be godly.

А зневажливих і безглуздих байок остерігайся. Вправляйся ж у побожності,

“Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.”

адже тілесні вправи до деякої міри корисні, а побожність на все корисна, тому що має обітницю як теперішнього життя, так і майбутнього.

This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it.

Вірне це слово й гідне всякого прийняття.

This is why we work hard and continue to struggle,d for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers.

Бо для цього ми і працюємо й зазнаємо утисків, поклавши надію на живого Бога, Який є Спасителем усіх людей, особливо вірних.

Teach these things and insist that everyone learn them.

Це проповідуй і навчай.

Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.

Хай ніхто не зневажає твого молодого віку, але будь прикладом для вірних — словом, життям, любов’ю, вірою та чистотою.

Until I get there, focus on reading the Scriptures to the church, encouraging the believers, and teaching them.

Поки прийду, приділяй увагу читанню, розраді та навчанню.

Do not neglect the spiritual gift you received through the prophecy spoken over you when the elders of the church laid their hands on you.

Не занедбуй свого дару, який був тобі даний за пророцтвом, — з покладанням рук пресвітерської ради.

Give your complete attention to these matters. Throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone will see your progress.

Про це піклуйся, у цьому перебувай, щоб твій успіх був очевидним для всіх.

Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching. Stay true to what is right for the sake of your own salvation and the salvation of those who hear you.

Пильнуй себе і навчання; тримайся цього, бо, роблячи так, і себе спасеш, і тих, хто тебе слухає.
